The Masks
of the Universe

he Universe is man’s oldest dilemma. It is
based on the idea, beginning from the sixth
century B.C., of rising western philosophical
speculation, stretched out in search of archè, or
rather a principle that is the common denominator of the entire reality while interpreting its
vital energy, order and dynamism. Every era and
every culture have conceived different visions of
the cosmos, each according to their own beliefs
and convictions, different logical processes and
casual connections about its origins, its destiny
and its manner of being. From ancient people’s
magic-mythical visions, where the cosmos is animated by deities and spirits, to complex Aristotle-Ptolemy-like cosmology; from Galileo and
Newton’s mechanistic universe to Einstein’s intuitions up to quantum physics, not excluding
the fascinating cosmic visions of the East, the
history of cosmology, initiated illo tempore, will
never see the last word. In fact, every weltanschaung of the Universe is nothing but a mask
destined eventually to be ousted or modified. Because the various universes through which man
has incessantly sought to tame and understand
exceed the capacity of even the most formidable
genius, they are all temporary conceptual models. The great philosopher Kant in his Critique of
Pure Reason – dialectic transcendental section –
arrived at conceiving the Cosmos as a
noumenon, or rather an entity that can only be
imagined, unable to be shown or experienced.
On the whole, a matter for metaphysics. Hypotheses and projections, postulated by reason:
many masks and many models of the Universe,
complex structures of thought that attempt to
rationalise the human experience of All, of which
each is a part and for which no one could ever
catch its true aspect.

Universo è il dilemma più antico dell’uomo. E’
l’idea su cui s’incentrò, a partire dal VI secolo
a.C., la nascente speculazione filosofica occidentale, protesa alla ricerca dell’archè, ossia d’un principio che fosse il denominatore comune dell’intera
realtà e ne spiegasse la forza vitale, l’ordine e il dinamismo. Ogni epoca e ogni cultura hanno concepito differenti visioni del cosmo, ciascuna secondo le proprie credenze e convinzioni, i diversi procedimenti logici e nessi causali circa le sue origini,
il suo destino e le sue modalità d’ essere. Dalle visioni magico-mitiche dei popoli antichi, dove il cos-
mo è animato da numi e spiriti, alla complessa cosmologia aristotelico-tolemaica; dall’universo meccanicistico di Galileo e Newton alle intuizioni di
Einstein fino alla fisica quantistica, per non parlare
delle affascinanti visioni cosmiche d’Oriente, la storia della cosmologia, iniziata illo tempore, non vedrà mai la parola fine. Infatti, ogni weltanschaung
dell’Universo non è altro che una maschera, destinata prima o poi ad essere soppiantata o modificata. Perché i vari universi attraverso cui l’uomo ha
incessantemente cercato di rendere domestico ed
intelligibile ciò che supera la portata anche del-
l’ingegno più formidabile, sono tutti degli schemi
concettuali provvisori. Il grande filosofo Kant nella
sua Critica della Ragion Pura- sezione dialettica
trascendentale- arrivò a concepire il Cosmo come
un noumeno, cioè un’entità solo pensabile, non
dimostrabile né esperibile. Insomma, argomento
da metafisica. Ipotesi, proiezioni, postulati della ragione: tante maschere e tanti modelli dell’Universo, strutture di pensiero complesso che tentano di
razionalizzare l’esperienza umana del Tutto, di cui
ciascuno fa parte e di cui nessuno mai potrà
cogliere il vero volto.

античных населений, где мир наполнен
богами и духами, до сложной аристотелептолемаевской космологии. От
механистической вселенной 'алилея и
(ьютона до квантовой физики
Эйнштейна, не говоря уже об
обворожительной осточной философии,
истории космологии, начатой в
незапамятные времена и которое никогда
не увидит конца. *аждое мировоззрение –
это ни что иное, как маска, которую со
временем изменят и вытеснят. очему
разные мира, которые человек постоянно

пытался понять и освоить, все являются
временными концептуальными схемами?
еликий философ *ант, в своих работах
над трансцендентальной диалектикой,
представляет селенную, как ноумена
«вещь в себе», т.е. – мыслимая сущность,
не доказуемой и не передаваемой. общем – метафизика. 'ипотезы,
проекции, умственные постулаты:
множество масок и множество моделей
иров, сложных структур мышления,
которые пытаются рационализировать
человеческий опыт сего, в который все
вовлечены и который никто, никогда не
сможет познать.
