Sacred Heart Parish Family XXIV TEMPO ORDINARIO 2 303 Paris Street, East Boston, MA 02128 XXIVSUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 13, 2015 From the Deacon’s desk …. A note from Fr. Wayne . . . This weekend’s Gospel plays directly off of last weekend’s Gospel. If you recall, Jesus healed the man who was deaf and had a speech impediment. After the man was restored, Jesus told him to tell no one what Jesus did. We reflected last weekend on the reason for such a request from Jesus. It was because He desires each of us to have a personal encounter and experience with Him. Once we spend that time with Him, the question of the Gospel this weekend needs to be answered: Who do you say that I am? Before answering, spend some quality time in prayer, at Mass, reading the Bible, and contemplating His mercy and love in your life. Tuesdays with Mary Just a reminder, we pray the Rosary every Tuesday evening at 6:45 p.m. in the Rectory Chapel. Novena for Life Join us this for the Novena for Life at 6:00 p.m. in the Rectory Chapel! Q: What is the role of silence in a Mass? When should there be silence? A: Silence has a very important role to play in the celebration as indicated by the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, No. 45. "Sacred silence also, as part of the celebration, is to be observed at the designated times," the General Instruction of the Roman Missal says. "Its purpose, however, depends on the time it occurs in each part of the celebration. Thus within the Act of Penitence and again after the invitation to pray, all recollect themselves; but at the conclusion of a reading or the homily, all meditate briefly on what they have heard; then after Communion, they praise and pray to God in their hearts. Even before the celebration itself, it is commendable that silence [to] be observed in the church, in the sacristy, in the vesting room, and in adjacent areas, so that all may dispose themselves to carry out the sacred action in a devout and fitting manner." (More....) __________________ When you are before the altar believe that there are troops of angels and archangels trembling with respect before the sovereign Master of Heaven and earth. Therefore, when you are in church, be there in silence, fear, and veneration. - Saint John Chrysostom Registration for Adults who want to receive the Sacraments If you or somebody that you may know, who is an adult, wants to become Catholic or receive the Sacraments of Holy Communion or Confirmation please call 617.567.5776 to register for Adult Classes. Sacred Heart Parish Book Club The Book Club meets each Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the rectory. Please consider joining us for a fun and informative time. The new book for discussion is Scott Hahn’s: Signs of Life: 40 Catholic Customs and Their Biblical Roots. Scott Hahn, the bestselling author of The Lamb’s Supper and Reasons to Believe, celebrates the touchstones of the Catholic life, guiding readers to a deeper faith through the Church’s rites, customs, and traditional prayers. Signs of Life is beloved author Scott Hahn’s clear and comprehensive guide to the Biblical doctrines and historical traditions that underlie Catholic beliefs and practices. Devoting single chapters to each topic, the author takes the reader on a journey that illuminates the roots and significance of all things Catholic, including: the Sign of the Cross, the Mass, the Sacraments, praying with the saints, guardian angels, sacred images and relics, the celebration of Easter, Christmas, and other holidays, daily prayers, and much more. In the appealing conversational tone that has won him millions of devoted readers, Hahn presents the basic tenets of Church teachings, clears up common misconceptions about specific rituals and traditions, and responds thoughtfully to the objections raised about them. Each chapter concludes with loving, good-natured, inspiring advice on applying the Church’s wisdom to everyday life. Sacred Heart Parish Family 4 303 Paris Street, East Boston, MA 02128 XXIVSUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 13, 2015 dura come pietra, sapendo di non restare confuso. È vicino chi mi rende giustizia: chi oserà venire a contesa con me? Affrontiamoci. Chi mi accusa? Si avvicini a me. Ma egli, voltatosi e guardando i suoi discepoli, rimproverò Pietro e disse: «Va' dietro a me, Satana! Tra l’erbe verdeggianti mi guidi a riposar, all’acque tue tranquille mi fai tu dissetar. Rit. Se in valle tutta oscura io camminar dovrò, vicino a Te, Signore, più nulla temerò. Rit. Amen. L’Angelus V. Rit. Sacred Heart Parish Family XXIV TEMPO ORDINARIO 6 303 Paris Street, East Boston, MA 02128 Meet Fr. Joy − Living Up to His Name Fr. Bill Joy is no stranger to the city of Boston. A second generation Irish Catholic, he was baptized in the same Dorchester parish where he later served a vibrant Haitian community for many years. When the earthquake hit Haiti in 2010, almost every one of his parishioners lost one or more of their family members. Despite these tragic events, his parish remained a strong example of the living Church—a joy-filled community that drew strength from each other and their shared love of God. Through times of celebration and times of great sorrow, Fr. Joy remained true to his name, joyfully sharing the love of Christ among a community of believers who strive to live each day in His Name. “Support your priests with your love and prayers, that they may always be shepherds after Christ’s heart.” - Pope Francis Fr.
