From the Deacon’s desk . . .
This week we are
keenly aware of
giving thanks for
the many blessings we have. As
we prepare to join
family and friends
and offer thanks,
let us pause for a
moment and truly place our gratitude where it
belongs. God is the One to whom we owe a debt of
gratitude. All that we have in life has come from the
hands of God. We must never forget that. Be
thankful to God and show your gratitude by embracing the gift of the faith He has placed into each of our
hearts. God has done so much for us. What can you
do for God in order to express your gratitude? Last
week a young man from our parish was explaining
why he goes to Mass. He was involved in a very bad
accident and survived. He said that in his moment of
need God was there for him. He goes to Mass each
Sunday to be there for God. Let us learn from that
courageous example. Let us make Mass a priority
for ourselves and our loved ones. God has always
been there for us. Let us this Thanksgiving take a
few moments to be there for Him.
Prayer for a Happy Death . . .
Over the last three weeks of my father’s life, I prayed
to Saint Joseph that my father would have a happy
death.
What is a happy death? My father’s experience was
he saw his four grandchildren together, on the day
before he passed; his last Sunday dinner was ziti and
meatballs cooked by his wife of sixty-one years; and,
most importantly my father made his last confession
four days before death!
Why is Saint Joseph the patron of death?

Saint Joseph is the foster father of Jesus, the
Eternal Judge. Our Lord would deny His earthly
father nothing.
The Church recognizes Saint Joseph as the
Terror of demons and the Conqueror of Hell.
Saint Joseph died in the arms of Jesus and Mary who could have experienced a more happy
death?

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Beginning December 4th and taking
place each Friday of Advent at 6:30

devotion is a great way to enter into
the Advent Season with a look forward

Archdiocese of Boston through
the special collection on
November 21–22.
The histories of religious Sisters
tell great love stories.
Each chapter includes generous women who responded
with compassion and care to the pastoral needs of the
faithful through their service in schools, hospitals, and
social service agencies.
We are blessed to have more than 1,700 Sisters
representing more than 80 religious communities who
have served the Archdiocese of Boston. Rising median ages
and escalating costs for health care have contributed to
the great need to supplement Social Security benefits that
cover only 20% of actual medical and retirement costs for
each Retired Sister.
The special collection on November 21-22 provides a
wonderful opportunity to say thank you to these faith-filled
women. The funds raised through this collection help meet
day-to-day needs for Retired Sisters, such as prescription
medications, nursing assistance, health care, and more.
