SARAH COSULICH CANARUTTO HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS THE NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF ARTISSIMA Today, Friday, February 10, 2012, at 5:30 pm, the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Torino Musei, the Turin Museums Foundation that manages the Fair, has met to formalize the appointment of the new Artistic Director of Artissima, who will replace Francesco Manacorda, the former director of the Fair for the 2010 and 2011 editions, and now Artistic Director of Tate Liverpool. A special Committee - consisting of Maurizio Braccialarghe, President of the Fondazione Torino Musei and Councillor for Culture of the City of Turin; Michele Coppola, Councillor for Culture of the Regione Piemonte; Ugo Perone, Councillor for Culture of the Provincia di Torino; Franco Amato, Councillor of the CRT Foundation; Walter Santagata, Councillor of the Compagnia di San Paolo - was called to evaluate the candidates’ resumes and projects proposals. The Committee unanimously decided to bring to the attention of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Torino Musei the name of Sarah Cosulich Canarutto. Following tonight’s formal approval, her position as director of the Artissima Fair has become official. The new director has been appointed for a three year term, as of March 1st, 2012, with the possibility of being confirmed for another year after a status assessment. “I am delighted and thrilled to be the new Artissima director”, said Sarah Cosulich Canarutto, “I accept this challenging task with great enthusiasm. I would like to thank the Evaluating Committee for believing in me. Former director Francesco Manacorda has handed us a Fair with a strong identity, a Fair that stands out in the crowded world of international art. I am committed to contributing to a further development of Artissima, and I am happy to have the chance to work in a city like Turin, a city that believes in and promotes contemporary art ”. Sarah Cosulich Canarutto (Trieste, 1974) Since 2010, she lives and works in Switzerland as art advisor overseeing a number of private collections. From 2004 to 2008, she was curator of the Centro d'Arte Contemporanea in Villa Manin (Udine), where she curated over 20 exhibition projects. She has worked in museums in Berlin and London, and in 2003, she was assistant curator of director Francesco Bonami at the 50th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. She contributed as well as artistic director to the creation of the Cardi Black Box Gallery and followed its first year of artistic activity. She has been contributing editor for many art magazines and has held seminars on museology and curatorship in several Italian and foreign universities. She is the author of the monographs on Jeff Koons (2006) and Gabriel Orozco (2008) published in the Supercontemporanea Series (by Electa Mondadori). Sarah Cosulich Canarutto will attend the Artissima press conference at the Circolo dei Lettori, Turin, on Wednesday, February 15 at 4:30pm. Artissima, International Fair of Contemporary Art, is owned by Città di Torino, Provincia di Torino and Regione Piemonte, and is managed by the Fondazione Torino Musei through the incorporated company Artissima S.r.l. The forthcoming edition, Artissima 19, will take place from November 9 through 11, 2012, at the Oval pavilion, Lingotto Fiere, Turin.
