industry
IT is true: “nothing is impossible” for MSA Animal Health. The
company entered Merck & Co. group in 2009, following the merger
of Merck and Schering Plough. MSD Animal Health is the company's
name outside USA and Canada: it is Merck's world veterinary
division. MSD Animal Health is present in over 50 countries all over
the world and quickly became one of the world leading companies
in the sector of veterinary pharmaceutical industry, as shown by the
success of its products in over 140 countries in the world.
The company’s philosophy focuses on research and development of
increasingly effective and innovatory products: MSD Animal Health is
constantly active as far as Research & Development is concerned, in
order to offer a broad range of medicines and services dedicated to
veterinarians. “We are well aware that the challenges offered by
pharmaceutical industry require an increasing innovation. That is
why we are ready to offer a broad range of specific products, with an
accurate service and constant support for veterinarians”, says
Mauricio Varvella, chief executive at MSD Animal Health Italia.

SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS. No wonder that all over the world there are
16 MSD Animal Health R&D centres: they are located in 12 countries,
including the four main research centres for vaccines and the three
most important world centres for veterinary medicine development.
The research of veterinary medicines now includes 100 projects on
parasiticidal products, anti-infective drugs and internal medicine.
Moreover, the success percentage of projects, from discovery to
concrete development, is extremely elevated: 75-80% of MSD Animal
Health studies at the stage of clinical development obtain the licence
to be sold on the market. “We know”, explains Mauricio Varvella,
“how important is to provide a real value: innovatory, high-quality
and scientifically proven solutions capable to meet the needs of our
customers, supporting their success. That is why we focus on
veterinarians, breeders and pet owners: we aim at becoming their
reliable partner, equal to their professionalism. Following their
suggestion, we offer effective and suitable products that do improve
the health of pets and the value of zootechnical production, as well as
the standards of pets’ well-being”.
What is the social impact of the efforts in developing drugs for the
well-being of pets? “We are proud”, says chief executive at MSD
Animal Health Italia, “that our products and services have such an
elevated social impact: thanks to prevention and treatment of
working animals diseases, it is possible to guarantee healthy,
convenient and safe food; it is possible to promote economically
advantageous farming; it is possible to preserve public health,
controlling infectious diseases potentially dangerous for humans or
improving the health of pets”.
