“Some” and “any” followed by a noun
“Some” e “any” seguiti da un nome
When not used on their own as pronouns, "some"
and "any" must be directly followed by a noun
(e.g. some discoveries) or modifying adjective
and noun (e.g. some important discoveries).
In other cases, we use "some of" / "any of".
Quando “some” e “any” da soli non vengono
usati come pronomi, devono essere
direttamente seguiti da un sostantivo (es.
alcune scoperte) o da un aggettivo
qualificativo e sostantivo (es. qualche
importante scoperta).
Negli altri casi si usa "some of" / "any of".
They are used:
- before the definite article
Questi vengono usati:
- prima dell’articolo determinativo
"Some of the girls in my class"
“Alcune delle ragazze nella mia classe”
- before demonstratives (this, that, these,
those)
- prima dei dimostrativi (questo/a,
questi/e, quello/a, quelli/e)
"Some of these people"
Alcune di queste persone
- before possessive adjectives (my, your, etc.)
- prima degli aggettivi possessivi (mio,
tuo/vostro, ecc.)
- before possessive pronouns (mine, yours,
etc.)
- prima degli pronomi possessivi (il mio, il
tuo/il vostro, ecc.)
- before nouns in the possessive case (Mary's,
the Browns')
- prima dei sostantivi in casi di possesso
(Mary’s, the Browns’)
"Some of her friends"
"Some of yours"
"Some of Mary's friends"
“Alcuni dei suoi amici”
“Alcuni dei tuoi”
“Qualche amico di Mary”
- before object pronouns (it, you, us, them)
- prima dei pronomi complemento oggetto
(lo, ti/vi, ci, li/le)
