EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II 287 Sydney Road, Brunswick Phone: 9380 1023 Fax: 9388 8144 Website: www.stambroseparish.org.au RECENTLY DECEASED Albertina Maffei of Rae Street, Cira Lucca of Park Street, Giuseppe D’Urso, Paul Curran OUR LADY’S CHURCH ANNIVERSARIES Mario Fabris WHAT MUST WE DO? Rejoicing is the theme of this Sunday as announced in the First and Second Readings, as well as the Psalm. As Zion was told to rejoice for her salvation is near, so Paul tells his community to ‘Rejoice always in the Lord’. This is an extraordinary faith in the certainty of the presence of Jesus in the midst of the community. When asked the question, ‘What must we do?’ John gives advice that is as appropriate in our time as it was in his. He tells us, ‘Share with those in need, be fair in your dealings with others and don’t abuse your power.’ As Christmas approaches, ask the Baptist your own question, ‘What must I do?’ And listen for an answer. Mary Coloe PVBM THE CALL TO INTEGRITY Our parish theme for Advent focuses on integrity. In today’s Gospel, John the Baptist calls us to live a life of integrity by being aware of the common good. For example, wherever we see people lacking in clothes and food, we are called to clothe and feed them; or when we hold positions of responsibility, we are to treat all people with justice and respect. A person of integrity is one who brings balance and harmony to our world. This person’s life is real evidence that the Kingdom of God is in our midst! OUR ICON FOR ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS Over our altar hangs the icon of Our Lady of Tenderness. During the Advent/Christmas Season we are mindful of Mary’s motherhood. This icon depicts the great tenderness between mother and child. It also reminds us of Mary’s role in the Incarnation. We rejoice with Mary as we celebrate the great joy and mystery of this Season.
