DESCRIZIONE Il Castello di Masino, grazie alla sua posizione
strategica che permetteva il controllo su un ampio territorio
tra Ivrea, Vercelli, la Valle d’Aosta e la pianura verso Torino,
ebbe origini molto antiche: era in origine una semplice
fortificazione a pianta quadrata con torri angolari.
I camminamenti e l’antica muratura si trovano ancora oggi
sotto i nostri passi quando percorriamo il cortile interno del
Castello che appartenne sin dalle origini alla famiglia Valperga,
che lo abitò fino al 1987, anno della morte della Marchesa
Vittoria Leumann, moglie di Cesare Valperga di Masino. Il
Castello venne presumibilmente demolito alla metà del XVI
secolo
e
ricostruito
nel
corso
del
Seicento.
Oggi il Castello di Masino appartiene al FAI Fondo Ambiente
Italiano che lo ha restaurato riportandolo all’antico splendore
e rendendolo un’attrattiva a livello mondiale, con visite
guidate
e
mostre.
DESCRIPTION, – Thanks to its strategic position from
which it controlled a large part of the area between Ivrea,
Vercelli, the Valle d’Aosta and the plain towards Turin, the
Castle of Masino, dates back to very ancient times, and
originally was a simple, square fortification with corner
towers. The old passageways and walls can still be admired
in the internal courtyard of the castle which, right from the
start, belonged to the Valperga family who lived there up to
1987, the year the Marquise Vittoria Leumann, wife of
Cesare Valperga di Masino, died. It would seem that the
castle was demolished in the middle of the 17th century and
rebuilt during the 17th century. Today the Castle of Masino
belongs to the FAI Fondo Ambiente Italiano, the Italian
National Trust, which has restored and brought it back to its
former splendor, turning it into a world-wide attraction with
guided
tours
and
exhibitions.
