I hope you have found it interesting in light of the discussion surrounding the upcoming Synod on the Family in October. Cari Amici in Cristo! In the name of the whole parish, I want to thank Deacon John Fielding and all the other volunteers who made last weekend’s Parish Gifts Celebration so successful. With this celebration we are already reaping fruit from our Stewardship Campaign. We will certainly plan another in the autumn, in October or November, to offer again the opportunity for our parishioners to recognize that gifts that the Holy Spirit has given to help build up our parish. These gifts are called Charisms. God gives them for the good of the Church. Therefore, they are always both personal and ecclesial in character. This means God gives each person certain gifts that are ordered to building up parish life, stewardship, evangelization, works of mercy, etc. If you are uncertain about your gifts, please, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Our Stewardship Campaign is one way in which you can recognize your gifts. This weekend, Trinity Sunday, we are asking you to make a new commitment to the parish in terms of volunteering your time to exercise your gift on behalf of the parish. The new parish directory provides current information on the scope and aims our parish ministries and groups, all of which will benefit from your cheerful and generous commitments. Please make a return on the blessings, grace, mercy and pardon that God has showered down on you through a gift of your time and talent. Another gift, which God gives, is a vocation, that is, a call to a special service in the Church. For most Christians, this call takes the shape of Marriage and Christian family life. In a particular way, I want to wish all fathers a very happy Father’s Day. Since our society often belittles the virtues and values that make men excellent husbands and fathers, I want to thank the fathers of Saint Rocco, who try, even if imperfectly, to manifest Jesus’ perfect fidelity and sacrificial love. Our society needs men who are true fathers, modeled on God the Father: selfless, life-giving, and who take joy and pleasure in seeing their children do good. Remember always the joy of God the Father at Jesus’ baptism and make that joy yours when your children do what is good and right according to God. ROCCO, GLEN COVE, NEW YORK This will help you, one day, rejoice with your children in the New Creation. Today, we also want to thank God for the generous response of the four men ordained to the priesthood, among them, our very own, Father Joseph Scolaro. In the coming weeks we expect that Father Scolaro will come to us to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at which time he will impart his blessing. A newly ordained priest’s blessing is an occasion for a plenary indulgence, under the usual circumstances, namely, Confession and Holy Communion within a week, Prayers for the Intention of the Holy Father (one Our Father, one Hail, Mary and the Apostles’ Creed) as well as complete detachment from sin. Should anyone wish to give Father Scolaro a gift, may I suggest money because this will allow him to obtain the things he needs according to his tastes. Dio Vi Benedica, Padre Elias Let us pray for the intentions of our Holy Father during the month of June…... Universal Intention: That the unemployed may receive support and find the work they need to live in dignity. For Evangelization Intention: That Europe may rediscover its Christian roots through the witness of believers. The regular collection on 6/8/2014 was $3,770.00 The second collection for School Support fund was $1,329.00. May God bless you for your continued support and generosity. Thank you, Fr. Elias Bulletin Reflection The Gospel today is sometimes called “the Gospel in miniature” because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form, “God loved...God gave…,” it is the paradigm for stewardship—we give because we love. ROCCO, GLEN COVE, NEW YORK A Statement from Timothy Cardinal Dolan and the Bishops of New York State Calling on Governor Cuomo and Leaders in Albany: Don’t Let Us Down 2014 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL UPDATE We are very grateful to the 75 families who made pledges. Amount Pledged: $19,030.00 Amount Paid: $13,720.00 Please support this important ministry in our Diocese according to your financial means. We have the whole year to complete our pledges. Thank you. Fr. Elias More than 200 Catholic schools have closed in the last 15 years throughout New York State, as families and parishes, who strongly believe in the value of Catholic education, struggle to keep up with increasing costs. Many of our public schools also desperately need help. To address these needs, the NYS Catholic Bishops joined a broad coalition of faith groups, community organizations and labor unions backing legislation called the Education Investment Tax Credit. The measure would encourage increased charitable donations to generate more private scholarships as well as additional resources to public schools. It also helps all teachers provide needed materials and supplies for every classroom in New York. The vast majority of legislators support the bill. Why? It’s because the legislation will help all children, regardless of where they go to school. It’s a win-win for all families! Please join us for a Triduum for ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST Monday, June 23rd, Tuesday, June 24th and Wednesday, June 25th 7:30 pm Rosary The Mass for St. John the Baptist will be on Sunday, June 29th at 8:45am Although Governor Cuomo assured us he would fight to include the proposal in the state budget, in the end, we were left out. As the legislative session ends in Albany this coming week, we pray that Governor Cuomo won’t let us down. We ask that you join us in that prayer. Pray that Governor Cuomo will put children ahead of politics and fight for the Education Investment Tax Credit. We also ask that you contact him immediately with that same message. You can send a message to the Governor through the website of the New York State Catholic Conference: www.nyscatholic.org. Time is short. Please act today. God bless you. June 14, 2014 CHURCH OF ST.
