A Prayer for our Parish
As we celebrate the 40th
anniversary of our parish this
weekend I would like to thank
everyone who made it possible.
I would especially like to thank
Bishop John Boissonneau for his
leadership during this anniversary
year and the following families who
donated generously to our parish
during our 40th year celebrations.

Have you ever watched the
construction of a building?
To prepare the foundation, the
construction company has to dig a
pretty big hole, and pour concrete
footings around steel rods placed
deep in the ground. We feel certain
this building will stand up to time
Jesus understood how buildings
were built. Joseph, his foster father,
is usually called a “carpenter.” Did
Jesus watch, or assist, as Joseph
took part in some Roman building
projects in his native Galilee?
Jesus may have known the value of
a sound foundation. He tells a
parable about two houses. One
withstood a storm the other did not.
Loving God,
we ask your blessing on our parish
community.
We are young and old, wealthy and
poor, weak and strong.
Some of us are friendly and some
are shy, some are easy to love and
others more difficult.
And you have called each one of us
to be a member of your Body.
We ask that you help us be
welcoming and inclusive, closing
our doors only to self- righteousness
and judgment. Help us share our
unique gifts and talents unselfishly
and humbly with
our community.
May we be a reconciling people who
give one another the
benefit of the doubt.
May we listen to one another with
attentive hearts and open minds.
May we be prayerful and discerning
disciples.
May we have the courage
of our convictions.
May we live in joy and hope.
May we share our dreams. May
both justice and mercy be
hallmarks of our community life
just as they are hallmarks
of your love for us.
We ask this through
Christ Our Lord.
The difference was in the
foundation, and in the wisdom or
folly of each builder. Our Lord’s
point? The need to make sure our
faith is founded in actions, not just in
words. Just as it’s easier to put up a
flashy superstructure, and harder to
dig deep to make a firm foundation;
so it’s easy to “talk” our faith, rather
than live it. “Doing the will of the
Father”, as Jesus asks, means
sacrifice and a denial of self. Such
“foundational living” isn’t always
visible to others. But with God’s
