Vino del Mese / August This month we head to the Mediterranean island of Sardegna. Most people’s familiarity with Sardegnan wines is limited to its savory Vernaccia, which is a great summer wine and aperitivo. However, many people are not as familiar with the island’s interesting reds. Our wine this month is from a wellknown producer called Argiolas. Using predominantly local grape varietals in its wines, Argiolas represents Sardegna as a territory better than any other vineyard on the island. Turriga, one of Argiolas’ signature wines, is our August wine pick of the month. A big red wine blending Cannanau and Carignano (two local island indigenous grapes) as well as Bovale and Malvasia Nera, this is a refined, soft and enchanting wine. On the nose there are notes of caramelized raspberries, blueberries and vanilla. On the finish, there’s an amazing balance between sweet tannins and a savory freshness. This is a big, noble wine. Aged in oak barriques for 24 months, this is a wine that drinks best in 3-4 years. Turriga pairs well with lamb and grilled meats. All month, Cittanuova patrons can take advantage of a 10% discount on our Argiolas Turriga. Offer valid the entire month of August. 29 Newtown Lane East Hampton,NY 631-324-6300 www.cittanuova.com
