CONSORTIUM
i vini del
piemonte
“I Vini del Piemonte”
is a Consortium that
brings together more
than 150 Piedmontese
companies producing
wines with designation
of origin.
Founded in 2011, by the will of
the producers themselves, it
aims at enhancing and better
communicating the incredible
heritage of the men and
women who have produced
the wine with great passion
and expertise, as well as the
richness and uniqueness of the
wines of Piedmont.
Today, the Consortium has
become a reference point for
small and medium-sized wine
companies that wish to expand
their presence in foreign
markets.
4
Inspired by a true
“team spirit”, the
Consortium, in
recent years, has
based its entire
activity on the
belief that joining
forces may be the
best move to make
an impression on
the various world
markets.
With a programme of some
30 events organized each
year in over 15 countries,
the Consortium “I Vini del
Piemonte” has obtained great
success all around the world,
presenting the Piedmontese
wines to thousands of wine
lovers and offering them the
opportunity to personally meet
the producers of the top quality
wine products from the area
(Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto,
Ruché, Arneis...) and above
all one of the most famous
wines in the world: Barolo,
the maximum expression of a
territory unique for quality and
with its variety of designations.

PIEDMONT:
WINE
EXCELLENCE
Surrounded by the Alps, in
the very north-west region
of Italy, and sharing a border
with France, Piedmont is the
second largest region in the
country by surface area.
The regional landscape also
features a great number of
rivers like Po, a major Italian
river, which originates from
the Piedmontese Alps from
where beautiful lakes, including
Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta,
take their source. At about the
same latitude as other areas
particularly suited for the
production of great wines, such
as Burgundy, Bordeaux and
Tokaji, Piedmont has the typical
continental climate: cold winters
(we are in a land also famous for
skiing) and hot summers with
large temperature differences
between day and night. Turin, a
city rich in history and an amazing
example of Baroque architecture,
is the region’s capital, but the
provinces of Cuneo and Asti are
definitely the true cradles of wine
production.
At the foot of the mountains, the
seemingly endless hills form
a natural amphitheatre which
almost encompasses the whole
regional territory, slowly sloping
towards the Po Valley. And it is
right on these hills that the great
wines of Piedmont are born: the
excellence of Italian production.

The area lies between the
city of Ivrea and the border
with the Aosta Valley; the
most common varieties are
Nebbiolo and especially
Erbaluce, which yield interesting whites and excellent
straw wines.
Thanks to a
substrate with
volcanic origins,
particularly
acidic, rich in
iron and low in
calcium, the
Nebbiolo grape
variety, locally
named Spanna,
finds its perfect
habitat here.

Canavese
Located in the south-east
part of the province of
Alessandria, these are curvy
and sweet hills, with clay and
compact soils. The land of
white tuff and the influence
of sea air determine a
natural acidity and special
flavourings. The most
common vine varieties are
Barbera and Cortese.
These are the areas where the greatest
wines of Piedmont come from, among
which Barolo and Barbaresco. Here,
in these hills, which form a unique
landscape, the most historic and highest quality vineyards are concentrated.
To these areas are added distinct sub
areas with different altitude and soil
nature; among these the most famous
is Alta Langa, from which a famous
DOCG takes its name.

World
Heritage
Territory
It was to remain blinded
to want to stare at the
blue sky in May, welded
to the crest of the hills,
bare, except crystallized
snow. An irresistible
attraction, with the glare
from that line that seemed
to be the frontier of the
world, from up there you
could dive endlessly.
Nature and then man afterwards
have both shaped a landscape
like no other, where the hills
are combed by a breathtaking
expanse of vineyards. A surface
area of eleven thousand
hectares, distributed among 29
municipalities in the provinces
of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo,
recognized as a “Cultural
Landscape” by UNESCO, that,
in June 2014, included them
in its list of World Heritage
sites. Special appreciation is
the exceptional nature of wine
culture. There are a good six
places under protection: the
Barolo Langa, the Castle of
Grinzane Cavour, the Barbaresco
hills, Nizza Monferrato with
Barbera, Canelli and Asti
Spumante, Monferrato and its
infernot (cellars carved into the
tuff).

Langhe
Monferrato
Hills that almost seamlessly
form the province of Cuneo lap
the area around Asti. They are
areas of excellence for winemaking worldwide, where a
special alchemy between soil
(marl, clay, limestone) and
climate is the ideal habitat of
Nebbiolo, a vine variety that
knows how to express itself
only in very few territories
and which reaches its peak
in the bottles of Barolo and
Barbaresco.
Rolling hills that form the right
bank of the Po River, lead to
the Ligurian Apennines. The
soil composition ranges from
the “white soils” of the Alto
Monferrato, suitable for white
grapes, to the sandy soils
of the Asti area, suitable for
simple and readily consumed
wines, and to the limestone
soils of the Basso Monferrato,
the realm of Barbera.
Alta Langa
A hilly area that descends
from the right of the Tanaro
River to Liguria, through the
provinces of Cuneo, Asti and
Alessandria. High and wooded
hills make arduous growing
grapes. The soil is best
expressed in the production of
sparkling wines.
Roero
The area on the left bank of
Tanaro is characterized by
deep gorges and picturesque
badlands, generated by the
erosive action of the river.
The soil is sandy and high
in limestone with deposits
of fossilised shells which,
together with scarce rainfall,
contributes to the production
of elegant wines.

A UNIQUE
VARIETY
OF GRAPES
A “native vine variety” indicates a vine variety not transplanted from other
areas, but grown in the area of origin of the grape itself. These varieties
present their own distinctive features: shape, colour of bunches, grapes
and leaves, but especially give the wine peculiar and unique organoleptic
characteristics. These are the real wealth of a territory, and make it
unique and unrepeatable. Italy boasts some 350 native vine varieties: a
good 34 are exclusive to Piedmont and help to make this region unique for
its originality and above all quality.
White Berry
barbera
Popular and highly widespread
vine variety, the marked acidity
and almost absent tannin are its
peculiarities. Cultivated almost all
over the regional territory, it is the
most typical expression of Monferrato
and of the DOCG Nizza. At the nose it
gives hints of flowers and fruit. It is
also grown in the Langhe area, where
it becomes Barbera d’Alba and it is
more powerful and presents spicy
notes.
arneis
erbaluce
Vine already mentioned in 1400 after
being almost completely forgotten.
It rediscovered its glory in the 1980s,
and now represents a large slice of
the Roero vineyard and is a landmark
of the Roero area. Fresh and with the
characteristic and intense fragrance
of acacia flowers, it is pleasant when
drunk young, but can give unexpected
surprises if you wait a few years. Its
high acidity expresses well in the
sparkling version and especially in
the straw wines.
Widespread in the Canavese area
and in small part also on the hills
around Novara, it is a versatile vine
that, for its pronounced acidity, lends
itself to different interpretations. In
the “still” version, it is pleasant with
a strong personality. In the sparkling
version, it is characterized by a fresh
pleasantness. But the straw version
is possibly the most interesting,
with the wines having intense and
appealing aromas and impressive
longevity.
cortese
moscato bianco
Another grape widespread in
Piedmont, especially in Langa
(Dogliani and Farigliano both
excellent) and in Basso Monferrato.
Versatile wine, capable of pairing a
meal all by itself, it stands out for its
very dark ruby colour, almost black,
and for its characteristic scent of
cherry. Rich in tannin, which softens
with age, the wines made with the
Dolcetto grapes boast great flavour
and texture.
Widespread in Langhe and Roero,
where it produces simple and
pleasant to drink wines. However,
its territory of choice is the area of
Gavi, in the last foothills south of the
province of Alessandria, almost on
the border with Liguria. Here elegant
wines with strong features and
mineral notes are produced.
In the large and diverse family of
Moscato, the white or Asti is not
only the progenitor, but surely the
point of excellence. If Canelli can be
considered the capital, the entire
Monferrato and a good part of Langhe
are home to its rows. It is one of
the few wine grapes that are also
suitable for consumption at the table,
and presents remarkable aromatic
notes, which characterize the wines
produced with it.
One of the oldest varieties of
Piedmont, once widely cultivated,
especially in the Torino hills.
Currently, it finds its area of election
in Chieri (not far from Torino) and to
a lesser extent in the Asti area. It is
generally produced in two versions:
sparkling, to be drunk young and
pleasantly fresh, or still, with more
complexity.
10
You know there’s something

the plants and the soil, that
even when you are not there
it waits to welcome you.
Black Berry
Cesare Pavese
grignolino
dolcetto
A very ancient grape, documents
speak of it as early as 1200,
spread throughout Monferrato and
particularly in the area of Casale. It
has more seeds than other varieties:
a feature that gives the wine a strong
tannic note in contrast to its very
drained colour.
Nebbiolo
We are in front of one of the most
important grape varieties not only
in Italy but in the world, which finds
its ideal habitat in very few areas of
the world, almost all in Piedmont.
In the north of the region, it
gives fine and elegant wines like
Ghemme, Gattinara and Carema.
In the province of Cuneo we find
it in Roero and especially in the
Langhe of Barolo and Barbaresco,
where the strong tannic element of
the grapes elegantly join together
to produce wines that evolve and
improve over the years.

A Mosaic
of Excellence
The label on each bottle of wine contains accurate information in order to
inform the consumer about the product. The current EC legislation brings
together under the acronym PDO (Protected Designation of Origin, DOP in
Italian) DOC and DOCG wines, acronyms that may still be yet specified on
the label.
Vine variety and territory: this is the winning combination that characterizes
the wines of Piedmont. Each area has unique features that enhance the
native vines and give great products to those who have the chance to
discover it. Here are the most important wines.

Metodo Classico Sparkling Wine
Pinot Noir and/or Chardonnay
at between 90 and100%. For the
possible 10% grapes from authorized vine varieties in the production areas can be used. It is the
only sparkling wine in Italy to be
produced exclusively in the millesimato variety.
100% Nebbiolo
Garnet red, which can show orange hues with aging. At the nose,
it is refined and focused on typical
and elegant hints of the Nebbiolo
grape: purple, plum, berry jam,
spices. The tannin dominates in
young wines, while it becomes
more elegant with age, highlighting structure and persistence.
Wine to drink after 3/4 years
from the marketing, it can also
withstand a long aging. The wine
should be refined for at least 26
months and is produced in only
four municipalities: Barbaresco,
Neive, Treiso and San Rocco Seno
d’Elvio.
The straw yellow (or pink) colour
is made brighter by a fine and persistent perlage. The classic scents
of sparkling wines, linked to the
crust of bread and yeast, join
sensations of dried fruit, honey
and citrus. In the mouth, it gives a
pleasant feeling of freshness and
is rich, tasty and satisfying.

moscato d’asti
barbera d’asti
100% Moscato Bianco.
A minimum of 90% Barbera,
other non aromatic red berry vine
varieties suitable for cultivation in
Piedmont to a maximum of 10%.
Asti is a sparkling wine in which
the aroma of the grape joins a
good effervescence that balances
out the sweet component well.
This sparkling wine production is
possible both in an autoclave and
with the second fermentation in
the bottle. Moscato d’Asti is lightly
sparkling, less sweet and lively to
taste, and rich in perfumes (with
typical hints of sage, peach, citrus)
and complexity.

100% Dolcetto
Deep and intense ruby red. Simpler and with fresh fruity aromas
of cherry in the “basic” version,
which is also fresh, with persistent presence of the tannin and a

L’Annunziata, one of the best
known terroirs in La Morra is
homeland to Aurelio Settimo’s
family, one of the first who
believed in the big challenge
of transforming the traditional
farming economy into a
specialized wine-making business.
Since 1962, their philosophy
remains the same: keeping with
traditions, focus on quality.
Nestled in Nizza Monferrato, the
heart of the Barbera d’Asti district,
Bersano means Territory and
Vineyards. Following the motto of
its founder Arturo “if you want to
drink well, get yourself a vineyard”,
since 1935 the winemaking
techniques have constantly been
refined, but the “ways” and “time”
to make wine haven’t changed.
A small-sized firm that offers a
high-profile, extremely elegant
product at a fair price. This is
the project of a family whose
links to Costigliole date back
to the 12th century. Investing
year after year in research and
experimentation, their wines are a
symbol of innovation with respect
to tradition.
Founded in 1950, the winery was
one the first to recognize the
potential for quality wines of the
sandy soils of Roero focusing on
Nebbiolo and the then almost
extinct local grape variety Arneis.
Rich, complex , with an amazing
ageing potential yet immediately
enjoyable, their wines are
considered a reference for both
Arneis and Roero.

Established in 1925, on the
historic hill of Castelletto and
Gramolere, two of the best crus in
Monforte d’Alba. The great terroir
fosters naturally low-yielding
vines which produce wines that
are approachable while young,
yet remain amongst the most
concentrated and longest-lived of
all Barolos.
Traditional knowledge and modern
production techniques, as well as
patience and perseverance are at
the core of Oddero’s philosophy,
producing wines exclusively from
family-owned vineyards, located on
the “sorì” (sunny hills), where they
can benefit from the best sunlight.
Since many generations the real
treasure of this family-run winery.
Tradition makes history alive: a
philosophy that has allowed the
Azienda Vinicola Palladino to
pass through many generations
and wine trends. Always being
up-to-date while remembering
and honouring the strong links
between wine and territory, with
the compass constantly set on
quality.
The Ruggeri Corsini estate was
founded in 1995 thanks to the
passion for the countryside
and the love for great wines of
Loredana and Nicola. Both with a
degree in Viticulture and Enology,
they decided to change life, leaving
their jobs to buy a small estate in
Monforte d’Alba. Their dream is
now in each of their wines.

A story of loyalty to territory
and tradition, a blend of
resourcefulness, professionalism
and instinct which transformed
a small provincial distillery into a
large international company, that
brings the authenticity and quality
of Piedmont, to wine glasses
around the world.
The vineyards before everything
else. For wines to be an authentic
expression of their territory, it is
necessary to trust the vineyard and
lead it toward self-regulation. This
has been the guideline of this four
generations family-run winery,
constantly evolving its business
that values past experience with a
serious vision of the future.
In a village midway between
Asti and Alba, the winery was
established in 1934. Here, where
the relationship between man
and nature is still ruled by ancient
rythms, the optimal conditions of
the terroir, soil, exposure, climate,
are perfect for great whites as well
as the undisputed leaders of these
hills: Barbera and Moscato.

Four generations tell the story
of Albino Rocca winery. Today, as
in the past, in constant search
for the highest quality wines that
can express the characteristics,
purity and elegance that are so
recognizably linked with the terroir
of Barbaresco. An history built
year by year through the gradual
acquisition of the best vineyards.
Costigliole d’Asti, one of the most
attractive villages in Monferrato,
rich in history, traditions and
charming landscapes. The land
surrounding its old castle has
always produced the best Barbera
and Moscato grapes. The winery’s
modern techniques, side by side
with ancient traditional methods,
simply transfer this quality to the
glass.
The company was established
in 1976 by brothers Franco and
Carlo Pontiglione and by Giuseppe
Priola. Lovers as they are of their
own land, they did not hesitate
in relaunching the traditions and
making Pelaverga, thanks also to
mother nature’s generosity, one of
the Langhe’s most unique wines.

Bricco Quaglia hill offers the
perfect terroir for cultivating
grapes of the highest quality.
Thanks to the favourable natural
conditions and to the winemakers’
commitment to producing natural
and carefully crafted wines,
Boeri estate has been acclaimed
since 1890 as one of the most
accomplished Barbera producers
in Piedmont.
A meeting of two lives was the
sparkle that ignited the passion
for wine, art and hospitality that
makes this winery a unique
place. A physics professor and a
professor at the oenology school
of Alba with a lifelong commitment
in arts are the creators of wines
that are the perfect combination
of science and art, hard work and
inspiration.
Determination, passion and
firm ideas as well as a great
and generous land capable of
producing extraordinary grapes:
these are the elements from
which Enzo Boglietti’s wines take
their soul. Each of them respect
the character of their own single
vineyards, always keeping a high
and strict level of quality.
It was the early 20th century when
Evasio Garrone founded the winery
that still bears his name. A name
that’s a gage of quality, respect
of tradition but also innovation.
Twelve hectares of vineyards
produce only typical wines of
Monferrato, from the popular
Barbera to the autochthonous
Ruchè, “the wine for the special
occasions”.

Still settled in the original cellar
of 1890 and inspired by the same
spirit of its founder Giacomo Vico,
the winery produces only wines of
the highest quality using locally
grown grapes from the vineyards
of the Roero. A marvellous
adventure that demands a
constantly high commitment, but
is also tremendously rewarding.
Fratelli Grasso, in the town of
Treiso in the Barbaresco DOCG
zone is owned and operated
by brothers Luigi and Alfredo.
Southern exposure and excellent
vineyard work help the grapes fully
ripen while the approach in the
cellar does not add any artificiality,
but maintains the maximum
freshness and vitality.
Montestefano, Asili, Ronchi and
Cavanna. These are some of
Barbaresco’s most prestigious
sub-zones, in which Luigi
Giordano’s small family winery
has constantly invested, reaching
its current seven-hectares that
provide not only the best Nebbiolo
grapes for their Barbaresco, but
also all the great local grape
varieties.
Marchesi Incisa della Rocchetta,
one of the oldest and most
respected winemaking families of
Piedmont, since the mid 1800’s is
devoted to the vineyards cultivation
in a unique terroir: the Monferrato
Hills. Since then with a constant
respect of nature’s times and
traditions alongside with innovative
winemaking techniques.

Olivero Mario produces seven
different wines originated from
the four typical grapes of the
region, such as Nebbiolo, Barbera,
Dolcetto and Arneis. All of them
inspired by the same idea: to
maximize the potential of these
native grapes and this unique land.
Based in Montà d’Alba the
Pelassa Winery owns vineyards
in both Roero and Barolo zones.
Thanks to consistency in choices,
commitment to the job and love
and care for details, the Pelassa
family believes that seeds of their
love for the land can bring about
truly amazing fruits.
Since 1985 the company has been
cultivating vineyards in Verduno
and in 1993 the current owner,
the wine technician Silvio Busca,
together with his wife Stefania and
their daughters Rebecca and Alice,
decided to translate into wine the
emotions he has been receiving
from his vineyards, mixing
experience and passion.
The winery is rooted since 1867 in
the medieval village of Monforte
d’Alba. Its location, in a small
valley in San Sebastiano district,
provides the vines with a unique
microclimate that is manifested in
the flavour of their wines. In 2010
the winery underwent a thorough
reconstruction lead by acclaimed
oenologist Gianluca Colombo.

Rinaldi’s wine growing and
production estate is located on
the hills of Alto Monferrato, in
the heart of one of Piedmont’s
most precious wine zones. The
family business, founded in 1961
has since then produced wines
only from estate vineyards,
joining tradition with innovation,
experience and technology, taste
and imagination.
A sweeping view of the Alps,
an old farmhouse surrounded
by vineyards that meander
down the slopes of the hill.
Located in a landscape that is so
quintessentially Monferrato, this
is the place that Ruggero and
Orsetta have long sought to make
their dream come true: a winery
where tradition meets innovation.
Their dream was fulfilled.
Founded in 1600, the estate is
situated on the edge of a nature
reserve which is included in the
UNESCO world heritage list.
Production focuses on indigenous
varieties such as Grignolino and
Barbera. The Tenuta is also a
meeting place for art and culture,
organising regular events aimed at
intensifying the dialogue between
nations.
Vite Colte is hands, heads
and hearts. It’s 180 farmers
who cultivate 300 hectares in
Piedmont, to which they dedicate
the most accurate cures. Behind
each Vite Colte’s wine there is
a vast heritage of vineyards, the
best motivated vine growers
with their families, supported by
modern technology and first-class
technical team.
