From the Deacon’s Desk:
A note from Fr. Wayne . . .
In today’s Gospel, Jesus
walks on the water and
approaches the boat where
the disciples are gathered.
As He comes close, they
realize who it is. Peter
boldly calls out and commands that the Lord give him the ability to walk on
the water. Peter does in fact walk on the water towards Jesus. As he walks, however, he begins to
sink. The interesting note is that when Peter took
his eyes off Christ, then he began to go under. In
other words, he was overwhelmed by the storms that
stirred up around him. He lost his focus and got
consumed by all that was happening around him.
The lesson is a profound one for us. When we take
our eyes off Christ, we sink! We allow all that is going on around us to consume us. We permit those
things that happen in our lives to overpower us.
Jesus tells us not to be afraid. He indeed is with us
and in His presence all fear should flee. Trust in
Jesus. Walk with Jesus. Call out to Jesus. Never get
overwhelmed or bogged down with your present circumstances. All you need to do is confidently pray:
“Lord, save me!” He will be there for you.
August is dedicated to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary
As a Church, we venerate the
physical heart of Our Lady
because it is one with Her person and is the seat of Her love
and virtue.
In the 20th century, devotion to
Mary’s Immaculate Heart was
renewed by the visions of Lucy
Dos Santos, the oldest of the
three children of Fatima, in her convent in the years
1925 and 1926. In her vision, Our Lady asked that
we offer the Five First Saturdays in reparation for the
offenses given to Her heart by the blasphemies and
ingratitude of the world. On October 31, 1942,
Pope Pius XII made a solemn Act of Consecration
of the Church and the world to the Immaculate
Heart of Mary.

in Cenacle of the Marian Movement of Priests at
6:00 p.m. in the Rectory Chapel, where we pray the
Rosary and Consecrate our lives to the Immaculate

Ed ecco che il Signore passò. Ci fu un vento impetuoso e gagliardo da spaccare i monti e spezzare
le rocce davanti al Signore, ma il Signore non era
nel vento. Dopo il vento, un terremoto, ma il Signore non era nel terremoto. Dopo il terremoto, un
fuoco, ma il Signore non era nel fuoco. Dopo il
fuoco, il sussurro di una brezza leggera. Come l’udì,
Elia si coprì il volto con il mantello, uscì e si fermò
all’ingresso della caverna.
Secondo le Scritture . . .
IL DIO VICINO
Le letture presentano due scene di teofania: al profeta Elia Dio si manifesta nella brezza all’imbocco
della caverna dell’Oreb; agli apostoli e a Pietro, in
particolare, Dio si manifesta nella persona di Gesù
che domina il mare (prima lettura e vangelo).
Quale sia il messaggio contenuto in queste due rivelazioni di Dio, ce lo mostra il salmo responsoriale
che parla di salvezza ormai prossima espressa nella
ricca terminologia di misericordia, pace, grazia,
fedeltà, giustizia...

Dopo che la folla ebbe mangiato, subito Gesù costrinse i discepoli a salire sulla barca e a precederlo

Congedata la folla, salì sul monte, in disparte, a pregare. Venuta la sera, egli se ne stava lassù, da solo.
La barca intanto distava già molte miglia da terra ed
era agitata dalle onde: il vento infatti era contrario.
Sul finire della notte egli andò verso di loro camminando sul mare. Vedendolo camminare sul mare, i
discepoli furono sconvolti e dissero: «È un fantasma!»
e gridarono dalla paura. Ma subito Gesù parlò loro
dicendo: «Coraggio, sono io, non abbiate paura!».

In quei giorni, Elia, essendo giunto al monte di Dio,
l’Oreb, entrò in una caverna per passarvi la notte,
quand’ecco gli fu rivolta la parola del Signore in
questi termini: «Esci e fèrmati sul monte alla presenza del Signore».

Pietro allora gli rispose: «Signore, se sei tu, comandami di venire verso di te sulle acque». Ed egli disse:
«Vieni!». Pietro scese dalla barca, si mise a camminare sulle acque e andò verso Gesù. Ma, vedendo
che il vento era forte, s’impaurì e, cominciando ad
affondare, gridò: «Signore, salvami!». E subito Gesù
tese la mano, lo afferrò e gli disse: «Uomo di poca
fede, perché hai dubitato?». Appena saliti sulla barca,
il vento cessò. Quelli che erano sulla barca si prostrarono davanti a lui, dicendo: «Davvero tu sei Figlio
di Dio!».

Wednesday, April 15 -- USA/ROME (Day 1) -- Depart U.S. for Rome.
Thursday, April 16 - ROME/FLORENCE (Day 2) – Arrive at Leonardo da Vinci Airport at
Fiumicino. After going through passport control, we depart for Florence. Lunch en route on
own. Afternoon free to relax. Dinner at Ristorante Le Botteghe di Donatello. (D)
Friday, April 17 – FLORENCE (Day 3) – Breakfast at hotel. Departure for Mass at the
Duomo, followed by a guided tour of the main city sites, to include the Basilica of the Holy
Cross and to see Michelangelo’s magnificent statue of David. Lunch on own and afternoon free.
Dinner at Ristorante Tavernetta della Signoria. (B,D)
Saturday, April 18 – FLORENCE/S. GIMIGNANO/SIENA/FLORENCE (Day 4) Breakfast
at hotel. Departure for a visit of the lovely medieval Tuscan city of San Gimignano. Lunch at a
local family farm. Departure for guided tour of Siena to visit the Basilica of St. Dominic, where
you will have Mass, the Duomo and Piazza del Campo. Dinner at Ristorante Il Casato and return

Sunday, April 19 – FLORENCE/ASSISI (Day 5) – Breakfast at hotel and depart for Assisi.
Afternoon departure for the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels for Mass, followed by a guided

Monday, April 20 – ASSISI (Day 6) – Breakfast at hotel. Mass at the Basilica of St. Francis,
followed by a guided tour of the main city sites, to include the Basilicas of St. Francis, St. Clare,

Friday, April 24 – ROME (Day 10) – Departure for Mass at the Church of S. Maria alle Fornaci, followed by a guided tour of the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. Lunch on own. Rest

Saturday, April 25 – ROME (Day 11) – Breakfast at hotel. Departure for a guided tour of Ancient Rome, to include the Roman Forum, Colosseum and St. Peter in Chains, where Michelangelo’s magnificent statue of Moses is displayed. Mass follows at St. Peter in Chains. Lunch on
