LA FAVOLA DI SELVI
Nel bosco, ai piedi della Dantercepies, tra
faggi e abeti, si trova una piccola e vecchia
baita, con il tetto coperto da una spessa coltre di neve bianca e scintillante dove si vede
una luce brillare dalle due piccole finestre.
La leggenda racconta che la baita fosse
abitata dal mostro della neve e nessuno degli abitanti di Selva, in Val Gardena, aveva
mai avuto il coraggio di entrarci perché erano
convinti che il mostro fosse cattivo, anche se
nessuno l‘avesse mai visto. Ma questo mostro
non era per niente cattivo.

Selvi aprì la porta ed entrò. Fece sedere il

Selvi e Francesco continuarono a parlare a

DAS MARCHEN VON SELVI
sen den angenehmen Schnee und die warme
Sonne die hoch am blauen Himmel schien. Tief
drinnen im Wald, wo sich die Hütte des Schneemonsters befand, öffnete sich schön langsam die
Holztür mit einem krächzenden Geräusch. Im
Türrahmen stand eine große Gestalt. Als sie ins
Licht kam, sah man, ja, es ist das Schneemonster! Das weiße Fell schien im Sonnenlicht und
sein breites und süßes Lächeln reicht von einem
Ohr zum anderen. Auf der Stirn befand sich ein
Kopfband, worauf sein Name stand, Selvi.
Tief drinnen im Wald, am Fuße des Dantercepies, zwischen Tannen und Fichten bedeckt mit
weißem, glitzernden Schnee, befindet sich eine
kleine, alte Hütte. Das Dach der Hütte ist von
einer Schneedecke bedeckt.
Die Hütte ist aus dunklem Holz und aus den
beiden vorderen kleinen Fenstern leuchtet helles
Licht. Noch nie hatte jemand aus Wolkenstein,
in Gröden, den Mut, dieses Haus zu betreten.
Die Legende besagt, in dieser Hütte würde ein
Schneemonster leben. Noch nie hatte jemand
dieses Schneemonster gesehen, die Einwohner
von Wolkenstein behaupten, es würde böse
sein. Was aber natürlich nicht stimmte.
An einem wunderschönen Wintertag, wenige Tage vor Weihnachten, waren die Skipisten
in Wolkenstein sehr belebt. Viele Leute genos-

Lupo“ überquerte, sah er einen kleinen Jungen,

auf seinem Rücken. „Hab keine Angst Junge,
ich bringe dich zu meiner Hütte, dann werden
wir sehen ob du verletzt bist.“ Als sie zur Hütte
kamen, öffnete Selvi die Tür und betrat sein Zuhause. Er setzte den Jungen auf die große Couch
neben dem noch brennenden Feuer im Ofen
und wickelte ihn mit einer warmen, kuscheligen
Decke ein. Nachdem er ihm einen heißen Tee
gebracht und ihm die blutige Wunde am Knie
mit einem Pflaster bedeckt hatte, meinte der
Junge erleichtert: „ Danke Selvi, ich hätte nie
gedacht, dass du so freundlich bist. Ich bin übrigens Franz!“ Selvi und Franz unterhielten sich
noch lange, sie scherzten, lachten und erzählten
sich sehr viel. Nach einer Weile musste Franz
dann auch wider zu seiner Skikursgruppe zurück, der Skilehrer wird sich sicher schon große
Sorgen machen, dachte er. „ Ich werde allen
in Gröden erzählen was für ein Held du bist!“
sagte er mit einem breiten Lächeln, nachdem er
Selvi ganz fest umarmt hatte. „ Danke Franz, ich
wusste, dass es dich gibt und dass ich dich bald
treffen würde!“
Heiligabend, Selvi hatte alles für Weihnachten vorbereitet, das leckere Abendmahl, den
Weihnachtsbaum, den Weihnachtsschmuck
und noch vieles mehr. Er war jedoch enttäuscht
von Franz, weil er sich schon lange nicht mehr
sehen lassen hatte, und Selvi dachte, er hätte
ihn vergessen, obwohl er ihm versprochen hatte, dass alle erfahren würden, wie einmalig und
freundlich Selvi sei. Nachdem Selvi alle vier
Kerzen am Weihnachtskranz angezündet hatte, klopfte es an der holzernen Tür. Selvi fragte
sich, wer sich Heiligabend noch im Wald herumtrieb. Er öffnete die Tür, und vor ihm befand sich Franz, zusammen mit anderen kleinen
und auch großen Freunden. „ Wir wollen mit
dir die Geburt Jesu feiern. Du hast dir wirklich
einen wunderschönen Abend in Gesellschaft
verdient!“ „Aber…aber…das war doch nicht
nötig…“ stotterte Selvi vor sich hin, während
die Gäste in seinem Haus hineinspazierten.
„Ich habe es dir doch versprochen. Du hättest
wissen müssen, dass ich dich nicht enttäuschen
würde!“ flüsterte Franz Selvi ins Ohr. Es war ein
wunderschöner Abend, den sie alle zusammen
mit glücklichen Gesichtern verbrachten! Einen
solch wunderschönen Heiligabend hatte Selvi
noch nie erlebt, er war überglücklich und half

became late and Franz had to go back to his
ski group, knowing that the instructor would
be worried about him. He said, smiling, “I’ll
tell everyone in Selva that you are a hero!” and
hugged Selvi warmly. “Thank you Franz, I knew
who you were and that I’d meet you soon!”
It was Christmas eve and Selvi was all prepared for the following day: a delicious dinner,
the Christmas tree, decorations and lots of other
things. He was a little bit disappointed, though,

den Skiern, und hatte einen Riesenspaß mit seinen neuen Freunden, den Kindern aus Gröden.
Alle kannten ihn, Selvi, der große, kuschelige
Selvi, der die Einwohner oft vor gefährlichen
Tieren beschützte.
Selvi lebt heutzutage noch immer in der
Hütte im „Bosco del Lupo“. Wenn ihr neugierig
seid, Kinder, dann guckt doch auch mal nach,
in seiner Hütte, vielleicht bietet er euch einen
warmen Tee an …
THE STORY OF SELVI
In the forest at the foot of Dantercepies
mountain, amongst the beech trees and pines,
is a little, old hut. The roof is covered with a
thick layer of sparkling white snow, which reflects the light from two small windows.According to legend, the hut was inhabited by a snow
monster, and even though no one had ever seen
it, none of the villagers of Selva in the Val Gardena had ever had the courage to go in, because
they were certain that the monster was terrible.
But in fact this monster wasn’t bad at all.
On a marvellous winter day, just before
Christmas, the ski slopes of Selva were full of
tourists. While the skiers enjoyed the beauty of
the snow and the heat of the sun which shone
in the azure sky, the door of the little hut in the
woods opened with a rusty screech, and out into
the light came a massive figure; the snow monster!! His white fur shone in the sunlight, and his
wide, gentle smile went from ear to ear. Around
his head he wore a scarf with his name,Selvi.
Selvi waded through the snow with his huge
feet and went in search of fire wood.Crossing
the Wolf’s piste, he saw a little boy sitting on the
snow with his skis next to him and tears sliding
down his rosy cheeks. Selvi approached the
boy, who, seeing him nearing, opened his eyes
wide and shouted “No, please don’t hurt me!”
But good Selvi helped him to get up and carried
the child on his back to the hut, reassuring him
“Do not be afraid, little boy, I’m taking you to
my house to see if you are injured”. Selvi open-

he thought that the little boy had forgotten
him even though he’d promised to tell everyone that Selvi had been kind and gentle
with him. After he had lit all four candles
on the Advent Crown, he heard someone
knocking on the wooden door…
Selvi wondered who could be

He opened the door, and there stood Franz, along with his
friends both big and small. Franz
said “We want to celebrate Christmas with you. You deserve a brilliant evening in company!” “But..but... you don’t need
to…” protested Selvi, while the guests came
into the house. “I promised. You should have
known I wouldn’t let you down!” whispered
Franz in Selvi’s ear. It was a wonderful evening,
and everyone had fun together! Selvi had never
had such a lovely Christmas Eve, and he was
over the moon with happiness! And from that
day, Selvi started to ski and had lots of fun
with his new friends; the children of Selva. Everyone knew the big, affectionate Selvi, who often protected
the villagers from dangerous animals. Selvi
still lives in the little hut
near the Wolf’s piste. Children, if you are
curious, take a look at his little hut. Maybe he’ll
offer you a hot cup of tea…
