Saint Joseph’s University, the New Maguire Campus, Merion Hall Lingua e Cultura della Società Italiana d’Oggi A free course for CEU credit March 12th March16th April 20th 2013 Pedagogical Seminar Eligibility criteria If you are 1. a college student interested in teaching Italian 2. a middle school or high school teacher of Italian 3. a university teacher interested in professional development We would like to invite you to the Second SJU Pedagogical Seminar. Course Description This year’s seminar aspires to achieve three main goals: 1. contextualize language learning for teachers and students alike; 2. update students and teachers’ notions of Italian society’s achievements as well as challenges; 3. provide students and teachers with pedagogical information and lesson plans on selected topics. The course will grant CEU (continuing education units) credit to credited K-12 teachers completing the necessary requirements. All teachers will receive a Certificate of Attendance. There will be two (2) intensive meetings, consisting of six (6) hours of instruction each by a variety of specialized university - level professors. The course is organized thematically around the six main topics 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Beauty and Aesthetic; Global Challenges; Science and Technology; Families and Communities; Contemporary Life; Personal and Public Identities. Each session will be subdivided into two modules: Lecture, that is, an overview of the chosen topic; and Workshop, that is, a practicum including activities, exercises, study plans etc Registration Attendees will be required to register for the meeting(s) they will attend. All expenses, including refreshments (breakfast and lunch) are covered by Italian government and SJU grants. The America-Italy Society of Philadelphia – Ente Gestore is offering to all participating teachers a free set of books. Book exhibit Several books will be on exhibit, including textbooks by: Alma edizioni, Edilingua, and Farinelli. Jean Farinelli will be present on March 16th to answer your questions.
