volunteers come from several society
groups like university, high school students
but also less educated young Roma and
Non- Roma to provide diversity. Our motto
is “See beyond prejudice”. Gipsy Eye was
founded in 2007 at the initiatives of six
Romani students as an informal group and
in 2008 become an official NGO. The
association is based in Iasi, in the NorthEast of Romania.
We aim to fight prejudices against Roma
and to promote a diverse society by the
following :
 showing alternatives paths for
better life for Romani Youth
mostly through non- formal
education.
 encouraging Roma Girls to become
role- models and to get involved in
project management.
 enhancing Roma identity in Romani
Youth by giving knowledge of
Romani culture and history.
 offering a chance for the Romani
Youth to share their cultural
heritage and other values of the
Romani Community with other
young people.
 Giving young people from
different social backgrounds and
countries the possibilty to meet
and engage together like Youth in
Action projects.
Providing young people from
different social groups and
backgrounds with knowledge and a
space to desbate discrimination,
prejudices, stereotypes, culture,
diversity and inequality through
workshops and conferences.
Our projects
Inimi pentru Inimi – Heart to Heart
Non-formal education Club
The club is located in the rural village of Cosmesti
about 10 km from Pascani. The area does not provide
many possibilities for the people living there and
many children grow up in difficult situations. The
club is located in the Cosmesti school and around 30
children from 5-14 years mostly Roma but also NonRoma families come to the club every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday after their regular school
schedule finishes. Roma and Non- Roma volunteers
assist the children with their homework and help
them to improve their skills like reading, writing, and
mathematics but also games to boost the children’s
soft skills like e.g. self- esteem. The goal is to
empower the young generation of Cosmesti- show
them different paths for their future and to give
them the
possibility to
develop their
potentials. The
volunteers are
role- models for
them and give
them the
support they
often don’t get
at home and
furthermore,
the volunteers,
also from
various social backgrounds improve their social
skills.

A
project to fight against discrimination,
prejudices and stereotypes of gypsies and
in general within a theoretical and
practical approach. Young people from
different High schools in Cosmesti meet to
discuss and conduct workshops about e.g.
discrimination, but also Roma history and
plan projects like flash mobs for Roma or a
gipsy dancing night. The students from
various social backgrounds Roma and NonRoma will also be volunteers in the heart to
heart children’s club to get a broader
understanding of the consequences of
discrimination. After conducting the
workshops the high school students will be
messengers against discrimination in their
schools and give workshops to other young
people. So, the message
against discrimination will be
spread widely.
