What difference does it make? FINAL DESTINY!
We go to work, then to church we have a few diversions, but then we get the news… ‘ you have an illness that
is going to take your life in less than 90 days’. Be honest, how would your life change? Think of your priorities
today, would the worries and issues in your life change? Would you be a different person and relook at the
things in your life as you rush towards the end of your days?
Usually we have the same mentality as a soldier. "It will always happen to some other guy, not to me!
This scenario takes place every day and many times, much more than we think. In fact, it is the grace of God
that can warn us of death, but most of the time we do not have this warning. This exact thing happened to one
of my best friends. He was very well off financially and was still relatively middle aged. He kept himself very fit
physically and watched his diet at all times. He would do anything to promote his health and in fact enjoyed
very good health. He often spoke of living a very long life and enjoying himself and the wealth he had acquired.
But then in November he went for a normal checkup. He was told that they had seen something unusual and
would have to check it out. What they found was a cancer quickly going through his whole body. I was with him
and saw how a life could change with such a warning. I will elaborate on this latter in my article.
Psalm 39:4 God gives us time, talent, money and possessions for a good reason. It’s not for Him, as He needs
none of it, but it is for US; it's ours to use. How do we use it? Will He say "well done"? To waste our lives and
recourses on ourselves is a personal tragedy to say the least.
God made us with an eternal heart and when we try to fill it with this earth’s temporal pleasures and
possessions, we fail and open our lives to error. We are children of eternity and only eternal principles can
satisfy us. Our main business as a believer is to prepare for our next life. We don't die, we just transition from
one place to the next. As I get closer I am dreaming of it. At times this passion consumes me, God has set
eternity deep into my heart. I see how Solomon said that God has put eternity in our hearts and being as a
deep desire, and I want to realize this personally.. The reality is that as we live this brief moment called today,
it is just a preparation for "the long tomorrow" we will experience. C.S. Lewis said that earthly pleasures
probably were never meant to satisfy us but only to arouse us to the real thing. We can try so hard to fill the
vacuum of our heart with materialism but we are always left lonely and unsatisfied. This vacuum was put there
for Jesus and eternity. As one brother in Christ stated:” God is eternal, His place is eternal, His word is eternal,
His people are eternal”. Let us long for His eternal person and this eternal dwelling place.

Alfred Nobel is a Swedish chemist who made his fortune inventing dynamite and other powerful explosives
which governments used to produce powerful weapons. When Nobel's brother died, one newspaper accidentally
printed Alfred's obituary instead. It said Alfred made his fortune by enabling people to kill themselves in unprecedented numbers. He was shaken by this but had an opportunity that few people ever have; to have seen
his own obituary!. What if we could see ours? What would it say? I read on a tomb stone in an old churchyard in
Tennessee "Here lies Calvin Smith ALMOST the fastest gunslinger in Colt county". Some obituaries are sad but
ours have the opportunity to be glorious. For example:” Here lies a man (or women) who loved God and those
around him.” Or “Here lies a man who served and lived for others more than himself.” Or “ here lies one who
lived not for this life but for eternity and who desired the word. Well done good and faithful servant of God”.
Let us long for such an epitaph.! 2. Cor.5:2 As long as God lets you live here on this earth, you should realize
that it is for a purpose; to be a blessing to Him and bear fruit for HIS glory. It is to love Him more than anything
else in this life and to demonstrate this in your brief visit here in this life. Thomas a Kempis said: "Let temporal
things serve your use, but the eternal be the object of your desire."
John Wesley said:” I judge all things only by the price they shall gain in eternity.” He died at a ripe old age in
his middle eighties leaving a worn out saddle and 35 English pounds. Was this all he accomplished in a long diligent life? No, he left a legacy of faith, thousands of sermons and an evangelistic testimony as few others have
along with the Methodist movement that will endure for eternity. Wesley was a normal man as you and I with a
passion for souls and to live in Christ’s presence. We can do the same and then our epitaph will last in eternity.
A.W. Tozer said; “Any temporal possession can be turned into everlasting wealth”. Whatever is given to
Christ is immediately touched with immortality. Jesus said; “Where your treasure is there will be your heart
also.”( Mt. 6:21). Many times we say that we want a heart for God, so let us put our treasures in heavenly
pursuit.
Is this world our home?, we sing and we say “ no! no!”, but now let us reason together. Every day takes us
closer to death and further from what we possess here in this life. Brother Lewis said that our Father refreshes
us on this journey with some pleasant inns but will not encourage us to mistake them for home. He who lives
for eternity is moving toward his real treasures and has a great reason to always rejoice. We need to see
eternity in heaven as an incredible adventure that will be the exact opposite of boring and not a place we must
go to because we can't stay here in this life. I feel this is why some people fear death, they just don't
understand what God has prepared for them. I am not promoting suicide as this life is very important because
God has given us this short time here to give Him, and those around us pleasure. We are here also to fulfill the
great commission for His glory and to love Him deeply. Showing this love is the very reason for our existence.
Going back to the dear friend I mentioned in the beginning of this article. He had a major wakeup call when he
learned that he had just a few months to live. He paid back people he had taken advantage of financially and
asked forgiveness for what he had done. In his business dealings he had some moral shortcomings that had affected the lives of a number of women. He contacted each one and asked forgiveness for affecting their personal
lives negatively and gave each a very generous financial gift. He had an opportunity which many of us may
never have.
D.L Moody said:” soon you will read in the newspaper that I am dead. Don't believe it for a moment. I will be
more alive than ever before.” God has an exciting future for us, let’s take this opportunity in our remaining
days and go after God with zeal. luv you all.

Che differenza fa? DESTINO FINALE
Andiamo al lavoro, poi andiamo in chiesa, abbiamo alcuni divertimenti, ma poi riceviamo la notizia…”hai una malattia che ti
toglierà la vita in meno di 90 giorni”. Sii onesto, come cambieresti la tua vita? Considerando le tue priorità oggi, vorresti che
le preoccupazioni e i problemi cambierebbero nella tua vita? Vorresti essere una persona diversa e riconsiderare ciò che hai
vissuto, mentre corri verso la fine dei tuoi giorni? Di solito abbiamo la stessa mentalità di un soldato: “succederà a qualcun
altro, non a me!”.
Questo accade ogni giorno e molto più frequentemente di quanto possiamo immaginare. Infatti è la grazia di Dio che ci può
avvisare della morte, ma di solito non abbiamo quest’avvertimento. Questo è successo a uno dei miei migliori amici. Stava
bene finanziariamente ed era ancora abbastanza giovane. Ci teneva alla sua salute ed era sempre attento alla sua dieta.
Faceva qualsiasi cosa per tenersi in forma. Spesso parlava di vivere una lunga vita e divertirsi con la ricchezza che aveva
accumulato, ma a novembre andò a farsi una visita di controllo e i medici gli dissero che gli avevano diagnosticato qualcosa
di insolito che andava ulteriormente analizzato. Gli trovarono un cancro ormai in metastasi per tutto il corpo. Ero con lui e ho
visto come la vita può cambiare con un simile avvertimento. Elaborerò questo più tardi nel corso del mio articolo.
Salmo 39,4. Dio ci dà tempo, talenti, soldi e possessioni per una buona ragione. Non per beneficiarne Egli stesso, perché non
ne ha bisogno, ma è per noi affinché li possiamo usare. Come li usiamo? Potrà dirci un giorno: “Ben fatto?”. Sprecare la
nostra vita e le nostre risorse per noi stessi, è una tragedia personale senza paragoni. Dio ci ha creati con un cuore eterno e
quando cerchiamo di riempirlo con i piaceri e le possessioni temporanei di questa terra, falliamo e ci esponiamo agli errori.
Siamo figli dell’eternità e solo i principi eterni ci potranno soddisfare. Il nostro scopo prioritario come credenti è di prepararci
per la prossima vita. Non moriremo, ma siamo di passaggio da un posto all’altro. Mentre mi avvicino, lo sto sognando. A
volte questa passione mi consuma. Dio ha messo l’eternità nel profondo del mio cuore. Ho visto come Salomone disse che
Dio mette l’eternità nei nostri cuori e nel nostro essere, come un desiderio profondo, e voglio realizzare personalmente Dio
per questo. La realtà è che mentre viviamo questo momento breve chiamato ‘oggi’, esso è solo una preparazione per “il
lungo domani” che esperimenteremo. C.S. Lewis diceva che i piaceri terreni probabilmente non ci sono stati dati per
soddisfarci, ma per stimolarci per quelli veri. Possiamo cercare duramente di riempire questo vuoto nel nostro cuore con
materialismo, ma questo ci lascerà sempre e solo insoddisfatti. Questo vuoto è stato creato per Gesù e per l’eternità. Come
un fratello in Cristo diceva: “Dio è eterno, la Sua dimora è eterna, la Sua Parola è eterna, il Suo popolo è Eterno”. Bramiamo
questo Dio eterno e la Sua dimora eterna. Alfred Nobel è un chimico svedese che ha fatto la sua fortuna inventando la
dinamite ed altri esplosivi potenti che i governi hanno usato per produrre armi potenti. Quando il fratello di Nobel morì, un
giornale stampò il manifesto funebre suo, invece di quello di suo fratello. C’era scritto che Alfred aveva fatto la sua fortuna
dando la capacità alla gente di uccidersi, e causando numeri di morti mai registrati in precedenza. Egli fu scosso con questa
scritta, ma ebbe un’opportunità che poche persone hanno, quella di vedere il suo manifesto funebre. E se potevamo vedere il
nostro, cosa diremmo? Ho letto su di una lapide in un cimitero in Tennessee: “Qui giace Calvin Smith, quasi il più veloce
pistolero di Colt county”. Alcuni manifesti funebri sono tristi, ma i nostri possono avere la possibilità di essere gloriosi, come
per esempio: “Qui giace un uomo (o donna) che amava Dio e quelli intorno a lui”, oppure: “Qui giace un uomo che serviva
gli altri e viveva per gli altri più che per se stesso”, o ancora: “Qui giace uno che viveva non per questa vita, ma per
l’eternità e che desiderava la Parola. Ben fatto buono e fedele servo di Dio!”. Bramiamo un manifesto funebre così.
II Corinti 5,2. Finché Dio ti permette di vivere nell’arco di tempo breve su questa Terra, devi realizzare che è per uno scopo,
quello di essere una benedizione per Lui, per portare frutto per la Sua gloria e per amarlo più di qualsiasi altra cosa. Thomas
A. Kempis diceva: “Permetti alle cose temporanee a fare la loro funzione, ma siano le cose eterne oggetto del tuo desiderio”.
John Wesley diceva: “Giudica ogni cosa solo in base al valore che ha per l’eternità”. Lui è morto che aveva oltre gli ottanta
lasciando solo una sella consumata e trentacinque pounds. E’ tutto qui ciò che ha compiuto nella sua diligente vita? No, ha
lasciato un’eredità di fede, migliaia di sermoni e una testimonianza evangelica che pochi altri hanno avuto, insieme al
movimento metodista che durerà per l’eternità. Wesley era un uomo normale come me e te, con una passione per le anime e
una passione per vivere nella presenza di Cristo. Noi possiamo fare lo stesso e allora il nostro manifesto funebre rimarrà per
l’eternità. A. W. Tozer, disse: “Qualsiasi possessione temporanea può essere trasformata in una ricchezza eterna”. Ogni cosa
che diamo a Cristo viene immediatamente trasformata in qualcosa d’immortale. Gesù diceva: “Dove c’è il tuo tesoro, lì sarà
anche il tuo cuore” (Matteo 6,21). Molte volte diciamo che vogliamo un cuore per Dio, allora investiamo i nostri tesori per il
cielo. Questo mondo è la nostra casa? Noi cantiamo e diciamo “no, no!”, ma consideriamo. Ogni giorno ci porta più vicino
alla morte e più lontano di tutto ciò che possediamo in questa vita. Il fratello Lewis diceva che il nostro Padre ci ristora
durante il nostro viaggio mettendoci a disposizione alcuni Hotel piacevoli, ma non ci incoraggia a pensare che siano dimore
fisse. Chi vive per l’eternità, si sta muovendo verso i veri tesori e ha una buona ragione per gioire sempre. Dobbiamo vedere
l’eternità in cielo come un’avventura incredibile, e questo sarà l’esatto contrario della noia. Non è un posto dove dobbiamo
andare perché non possiamo rimanere qui in questa vita. Credo che questo sia il perché alcune persone temono la morte.
Non capiscono affatto ciò che Dio ha preparato per loro. Non sto promuovendo il suicidio, perché so che questa vita è molto
importante. Dio ci ha dato questo tempo breve da vivere qui per poter piacere a Lui e a quelli intorno a noi. Siamo qui anche
per adempiere il grande mandato per la Sua gloria e per amarlo profondamente. Dimostrare questo amore è la ragione della
nostra esistenza.
Ritornando al caro amico che ho menzionato all’inizio di quest’articolo, so che lui ebbe uno scossone quando ha realizzato
che aveva pochi mesi di vita. Egli restituì soldi a coloro che aveva imbrogliato e chiese loro perdono. Aveva commesso
peccati d’immoralità che avevano segnato la vita di diverse donne. Contattò ognuna di loro e chiese perdono per aver avuto
un’influenza negativa sulla loro vita personale. Regalò ad ognuna un generoso dono in denaro. Ebbe un’opportunità che tanti
di noi non avremo. D. L. Moody disse: “Presto leggerai nel giornale che sono morto, non devi credere neppure per un
momento. Sarò più vivo che mai!”.
Dio ha un futuro emozionante per noi. Prendiamo quest’opportunità, approfittando dei giorni che ci rimangono, per seguire
Dio con zelo.
