Di origine scozzese, la famiglia Danican (Philidor è un soprannome) produsse nel corso di quasi due secoli una dozzina di musicisti, strumentisti e compositori, il più noto dei
quali fu sicuramente François-André Danican Philidor, nato a Dreux il 7 settembre 1726, e morto a Londra il 31 agosto del 1795. Tom Jones è universalmente considerato
come uno dei capolavori operistici di Philidor ed uno degli esempi più perfetti di un genere musicale particolarmente in voga nella Francia del XVIII secolo, l'opéra-comique.
Il libretto è tratto dal romanzo The History of Tom Jones, a foundling dello scrittore inglese Henry Fielding, mentre la musica, col suo tipico alternarsi di scene recitate, airs,
ariettes e pezzi d'insieme, è un susseguirsi continuo di felicissime trovate, in cui lo spirito elegante e caustico del secolo dei lumi sembra trovare una propria, esemplare definizione musicale.
A dirigere Tom Jones, messo in scena dall'Opéra di Lausanne nell'estate del 2005, troviamo uno dei maggiori specialisti della musica del Sei-Settecento francese,Jean-Claude
Malgoire, che con questa incisione rinnova un sodalizio artistico con Dynamic già ricco di titoli prestigiosi in CD e DVD.
Of Scottish origin, the Danican family (Philidor being a nickname) produced, in almost two centuries, a dozen musicians - instrumentalists and composers - the best known of
them almost certainly being François-André Danican Philidor, born in Dreux on 7th September 1726 and died in London on 31st August 1795. Tom Jones is universally considered one of Philidor's best operas and one of the most perfect examples of a music genre that was quite popular in 18th-century France, the Opéra-comique. The libretto
is derived from Henry Fielding's The History of Tom Jones, a foundling, while the music, with its succession of dialogues, airs, ariettes, and ensembles is truly delightful, embodying the elegant and caustic spirit of the Age of Enlightenment.
On the podium of this Tom Jones, staged at Lausanne's Opéra in the summer of 2005, is one of the greatest specialists of French 17th-18th- century music, Jean-Claude
Malgoire, who thus continues his collaboration with Dynamic, which already counts several prestigious titles both on CD and DVD.

Torvaldo e Dorliska sta fra il "dramma serio" Elisabetta, regina d'Inghilterra (Ottobre 1815) e Il barbiere di Siviglia (Febbraio 1816), pièce buffa per eccellenza. Torvaldo, infatti, va in scena il 26 dicembre 1815 al Teatro Valle di Roma, su libretto di Cesare Sterbini. Torvaldo è opera rara ieri come oggi, a teatro e su disco. Al Rossini Opera Festival
approda solo nel 2006, come testimonia questo spettacolo. Molti sono i luoghi comuni da sfatare su quest'opera a lungo ritenuta modesta e invece di enorme interesse. Uno
riguarda l'orchestrazione indicata come approssimativa e invece ricchissima. Altro errore critico è quello che stigmatizza la presunta incapacità di Sterbini a svolgere l'azione.
Il lessico è straordinariamente originale e le figure - tutte - sono disegnate al meglio. Sul palco del ROF i ruoli principali sono affidati a Michele Pertusi (Duca d'Ordow), Darina
Takova (Dorliska) e Francesco Meli (Torvaldo); Víctor Pablo Pérez dirige l'Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento.
Torvaldo e Dorliska stands between the "dramma serio" Elisabetta, regina d'Inghilterra (October 1815) and Il barbiere di Siviglia (February 1816): Torvaldo was staged on 26th
December 1815 at the Teatro Valle in Rome, on a libretto by Cesare Sterbini. Torvaldo is a rare opera, today as yesterday, both in the theatre and in recordings. It was not
included in the Rossini Opera Festival until 2006, as this performance witnesses. There are many clichés that need to be swept away about this opera, long considered modest yet of enormous interest. One concerns the orchestration indicated as vague but which is indeed very rich. Another mistake that critics make is to stigmatize Sterbini's
alleged inability to handle the action. His language is extraordinarily original and "alive" compared to the stereotypes of his time, and the figures - without exception - are finely drawn. On the ROF stage the main roles are entrusted to Michele Pertusi (Duke Ordow), Darina Takova (Dorliska) and Francesco Meli (Torvaldo); Víctor Pablo Pérez conducts the Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento.

La grande popolarità di cui gode oggi Vivaldi è in buona parte legata agli straordinari concerti per violino, ma, a differenza di quasi tutti gli altri violinisti-compositori italiani
dell'epoca (da Corelli a Tartini, da Veracini a Locatelli) dedicò particolarissima attenzione anche agli strumenti a fiato. Il gusto di Vivaldi per i fiati ha un sapore decisamente
internazionale, accogliendo nelle sue partiture strumenti come il salmoè, il modernissimo clarinetto a due chiavi, o i flagioletti, strumenti affini al flauto dolce molto amati in
Francia e Inghilterra. Accanto a questi, naturalmente, trombe, corni e i più tradizionali flauti diritti e traversi, oboi e fagotti, utilizzati nelle combinazioni più diverse, con un'attenzione ai colori orchestrali e agli intrecci cameristici che ha davvero pochi eguali. La registrazione focalizza l'attenzione sulla musica da camera di Vivaldi, proponendo, pur
con un organico relativamente ristretto, un profilo significativo delle diverse forme e combinazioni strumentali adottate dal compositore veneziano. L'Ensemble Barocco
Padovano Sans Souci fondato da Giuseppe Nalin nel 1986, si dedica espressamente all'esecuzione di musiche che vanno dalla metà del 1600 fino alla fine del 1700 ed ha
al suo attivo l'incisione di 13 CD di cui 11 con Dynamic.
The great popularity that Vivaldi still enjoys today is linked to a great extent to his extraordinary violin concertos but, unlike most Italian violinist-composers of the age (from
Corelli to Tartini, from Veracini to Locatelli) he also paid very particular attention to wind instruments. Vivaldi's taste for wind instruments has a markedly international savour,
for his scores accept instruments like the salmoé, the very modern two-key clarinet or again flageolets, instruments akin to the recorder and very popular in France and England.

The recording focuses on Vivaldi's chamber music, and, albeit with a relatively limited ensemble, offers
a significant profile of the various instrumental forms and combinations adopted by the Venetian composer. The Padua Baroque Ensemble Sans Souci, founded by Giuseppe
Nalin in 1986, dedicates itself especially to performing music dating from the mid-seventeenth to the end of the eighteenth century. . They have recorded 13 CDs, 11 of them
with Dynamic.

Nato a Spalato, in Dalmazia, nel 1892, Artur Rodzinski fu uno dei più apprezzati direttori attivi sulla scena internazionale nel periodo tra il 1930 e il 1958, anno della sua
morte. Assai stimato da Toscanini, che ne ammirava la raffinata tecnica direttoriale, ottenne grandi successi sia negli Stati Uniti (dove fu direttore a Cleveland, New York e a
Chicago), sia in Europa. Rodzinski fu molto apprezzato anche in Italia, e negli anni cinquanta si presentò di fronte al pubblico italiano proponendo soprattutto opere del repertorio russo e tedesco, come questo splendido Tannhäuser registrato con l'eccellente Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma della RAI, con un gruppo straordinario di cantanti wagneriani, tra cui spiaccano Karl Liebl (Tannhäuser), Gré Brouwenstijn (Elisabethj) ed Eberhard Wächter (Wolfram).
Born in Split (Dalmatia) in 1892, Artur Rodzinski was one of the most popular conductors active on the international scene between 1930 and 1958, year of his death. Much
admired by Toscanini, who appreciated his refined conducting technique, he reaped success both in the United States (where he conducted in Cleveland, New York and Chicago)
and in Europe. Rodzinski was very popular also in Italy, and in the 1950s he appeared on the Italian stages conducting works from the Russian and German repertoires especially. Among them, this wonderful Tannhäuser, recorded with the excellent RAI Symphony Orchestra of Rome and an outstanding cast of Wagnerian singers, which includes
Karl Liebl (Tannhäuser), Gré Brouwenstijn (Elisabethj) ed Eberhard Wächter (Wolfram).
