Revenge for Manetti
In 2006, Alessandro Manetti missed out on the championship title by
just one point, despite having raced to a brilliant victory in the final.
This year the Intrepid driver and his team made no mistake and took
the European KZ1 championship title crown he was so coveting.
O
nce more Intrepid shone on the international stage. After winning the KF1 World Cup, the Italian works once again made a big
impression last June 25 as its technology dominated in the top
125cc/gearbox category. After a masterly performance in the first
two races of the championships in Ugento, Alessandro Manetti arrived in
France, on the Varennes sur Allier circuit, focussed and motivated to take full
advantage of the impressive potential of his kart.
He was soon up there with the leaders in the first part of the race. After
clocking the second fastest time in qualifying, he won one of the heats and
was in pole position for the first final race. “The fact that I was going so well
made me very upbeat for the rest of the event”, the Italian driver said. “I was
a bit disappointed to miss out on pole position by just 1/1000 of a second during the time trials, but during the heats we were able to show that we were
on the winning track. During the warm up laps on the Sunday morning I was
lapping very fast. But during Race 1 the engine, which had been behaving
perfectly until then, suddenly lost power and it was all I could do to keep up
with the leaders. So I had to make do with third place on the podium and
had to wait until Race 2 before making sure of my championship crown. I’m
very pleased to see that all the development work on the equipment has
paid dividends and that we found the best set up”.

working to improve the competitiveness of our chassis and of all our products. This new international honour is further proof of our karting savvy”.
Before falling foul of some cruel luck, Roberto Toninelli’s team-mate Manetti was well on the way to adding to Intrepid’s haul for the day. “Two weeks
after winning both finals of the Italien Open Masters in Lonato, I knew I had
a good chance of doing something special at Varennes, especially in Race 2”,
commented Roberto. “I got off to a great start from 4th on the grid and I
managed to finish the first lap in the lead. A little bit later I went neck-andneck into a bend with another kart, but as we broke another kart behind us

smashed right into us, forcing me to retire from the race. I was choked,
because the way I was going I thought I was in with a great chance of victory. What’s more, it would have put me on the podium for the championship. But still, Intrepid has achieved its main aim of
taking the European title, and that’s the big thing we can take from this weekend”.
The European KZ1 title brings to a close a first half of the season in which Intrepid has been much in view in numerous countries and in different race categories. Frenchmen Brandon Maïsano and Paul Fourquemin, racing for Intrepid France, both won
in KF3, and Briton Scott Jenkins, the 2006 vice champion of Europe and winner of the Monaco Kart Cup in the Junior class racing an Intrepid, has already won several KF2 races. In his first year in KF1, Mike Courquin has also managed to be on the top
rung of the podium in what is a very difficult race category. A fine clutch of results for a make which has made spectacular
progress over recent years. And it looks as though the victories are set to keep coming.

La revanche de Manetti
Alors qu’il avait triomphé lors de la finale du championnat d’Europe,
Alessandro Manetti avait manqué le titre d’un petit point en 2006.
Cette fois, le pilote Intrepid a atteint l’objectif qu’il s’était fixé avec
son équipe en devenant le nouveau champion d’Europe KZ1.

ne nouvelle fois, le team Intrepid s’est illustré au plus niveau international. Un an après avoir remporté la Coupe du Monde KF1, la
marque italienne a encore marqué les esprits en imposant sa technologie dans la plus relevée des catégories 125cc à boîte de vitesses
le 25 juin dernier. Vainqueur avec beaucoup de maestria des deux premières
courses du championnat à Ugento, Alessandro Manetti est arrivé en France, sur
le circuit de Varennes sur Allier, très concentré et déterminé à confirmer le formidable potentiel de sa machine.
La première partie de la course le plaçait rapidement en haut de la hiérarchie.
Auteur du 2e temps aux essais chronométrés, il remportait une manche et assurait la pole position pour la première finale. “Ma compétitivité me rendait
vraiment très confiant pour la suite, soulignait le pilote italien. J’ai bien sûr été
un peu déçu de manquer la pole position aux chronos pour seulement un millième de seconde, mais les manches de qualification ont réellement prouvé
que nous étions sur la bonne voie. Au warm-up le dimanche matin, j’ai encore
été très rapide. Pourtant, alors que tout fonctionnait parfaitement, le moteur
a subitement perdu de la puissance dans la Course 1 et j’ai tout donné pour
me maintenir aux avant-postes. Je suis ainsi monté sur la 3e marche du
podium, puis j’ai dû attendre la Course 2 pour conquérir définitivement le titre
de champion d’Europe. Je suis très satisfait de voir que les développements
effectués sur le matériel ont porté leurs fruits et que nous avons opté pour les
bons choix techniques”.

3 podiums, dont 2 victoires,
et le titre pour Manetti.
“C’est une belle récompense pour tous les membres de l’équipe, poursuivait
Mirko Sguerzoni, le responsable de l’usine Intrepid. Nous réalisons un travail
incessant pour rendre nos châssis et nos produits toujours plus compétitifs, et ce
nouveau titre international est une preuve supplémentaire de notre savoir-faire
dans le karting”. Equipier de Manetti, Roberto Toninelli semblait parti pour compléter le triomphe d’Intrepid, avant de manquer de réussite. “Deux semaines
après avoir remporté les deux finales de l’Italien Open Masters à Lonato, je sentais qu’il y avait un bon coup à jouer à Varennes, surtout dans la Course 2, commentait Roberto. J’ai pris un excellent départ depuis ma 4e place de grille et j’ai
réussi à boucler le premier tour en tête. Un peu plus tard, je me suis retrouvé côte
Roberto Toninelli, candidat à la victoire à Varennes.
à côte avec un pilote au freinage, mais un autre concurrent placé derrière nous
est venu nous percuter et j’ai dû abandonner. Vraiment dommage, car au vu de
mes performances, la victoire était vraiment possible. De plus, cela aurait pu me permettre de monter sur le podium final du championnat. Intrepid a toutefois atteint son objectif qui était de devenir champion d’Europe et c’est ce qu’il faut retenir du week-end”.
Ce titre de champion d’Europe KZ1 vient conclure une première partie de saison qui a aussi vu les couleurs Intrepid briller dans
de très nombreux pays et dans diverses catégories: les Français Brandon Maïsano et Paul Fourquemin de l’équipe Intrepid France
se sont tous les deux imposé en KF3, tandis que le Britannique Scott Jenkins, vice champion d’Europe et vainqueur de la Monaco
Kart Cup en Junior en 2006 avec Intrepid, a déjà remporté plusieurs courses en KF2. Pour sa première année en KF1, Mike Courquin s’est aussi hissé sur la première marche du podium dans cette si difficile catégorie. Autant de résultats qui en appellent d’autres pour la marque qui a connu la progression la plus spectaculaire ces dernières années…

La rivincita di Manetti
Nonostante il trionfo alla finale del campionato europeo, nel 2006
Alessandro Manetti aveva perduto il titolo per un solo punto. Questa volta
il pilota della scuderia Intrepid ha raggiunto l’obiettivo che si era prefissato
con la sua squadra, diventando il nuovo campione d’Europa in KZ1.

l team Intrepid è salito nuovamente alla ribalta internazionale. Un anno
dopo la vittoria della Coppa del Mondo di KF1, il 25 giugno scorso la casa
italiana è riuscita a conquistare tutti, imponendo la sua tecnologia nella
categoria più importante, la 125cc con marce. Vincitore di talento delle
due prime gare di campionato a Ugento, Alessandro Manetti è arrivato in
Francia, sul circuito di Varennes sur Aller, molto concentrato e determinato a
confermare la formidabile potenzialità della sua macchina.
La prima parte della corsa lo vedeva già ai primi posti della classifica. Detentore del 2o miglior tempo alle prove chilometriche, vinceva una manche e si
assicurava la pole position per la prima finale. “La mia competitività mi ha
reso molto fiducioso, sottolineava il pilota italiano. Sono rimasto chiaramente un po’ deluso per aver perso la pole position durante le prove a cronometro per un solo millesimo di secondo, ma le manche di qualificazione hanno
dimostrato che eravamo veramente sulla buona strada. Durante il warm-up
di domenica mattina sono stato ancora molto veloce. Purtroppo, quando
tutto sembrava filare liscio, durante la Corsa 1 il motore ha perso potenza e
ho dovuto mettercela tutta per rimanere nelle prime posizioni. Sono salito
sul 3o gradino del podio, ma ho dovuto attendere la Corsa 2 per conquistare definitivamente il titolo di campione d’Europa. Sono molto soddisfatto di
vedere che i miglioramenti apportati alla vettura hanno funzionato e che le
nostre tecniche sono state premiate”.

Due vittorie ed
il titolo per Manetti.
“È una bella ricompensa per tutti i membri dell’equipaggio, ha aggiunto
Mirko Sguerzoni, responsabile dell’officina Intrepid. Lavoriamo incessantemente per migliorare i nostri telai e rendere i nostri prodotti sempre più competitivi: questo nuovo titolo internazionale è la dimostrazione delle nostre
competenze nel karting”. Compagno di Manetti, Roberto Toninelli sembrava
partito per completare il trionfo Intrepid, ma non è riuscito nell’impresa.
“Due settimane dopo aver vinto le due finali degli Open Masters italiani a
Lonato, sentivo che a Varennes avremmo potuto fare bene sopratutto nella
Corsa 2, ha commentato Roberto. Sono partito molto bene dalla 4a posizione
in griglia e sono riuscito a rimanere alla testa della gara per tutto il primo

giro. Poi sono stato affiancato da un pilota durante una frenata e tamponato da un altro concorrente che non è riuscito ad evitarmi, così ho dovuto abbandonare la gara. Un vero peccato, perché la vittoria era veramente alla mia portata. Una vittoria che mi avrebbe permesso di salire sul podio finale del campionato. Intrepid
ha comunque centrato l’obiettivo di diventare campione d’Europa ed è questo che dobbiamo ricordare del week-end”.
Il titolo di Campione d’Europa KZ1 conclude una prima parte di stagione che ha visto brillare i colori Intrepid in molti paesi e
in diverse categorie: i francesi Brandon Maïsano e Paul Fourquemin della scuderia Intrepid France si sono imposti in KF3, mentre il britannico Scott Jenkins, vice-campione europeo e vincitore su Intrepid della Monaco Kart Cup categoria Junior nel 2006,
ha già vinto diverse corse in KF2. Nel suo primo anno in KF1, Mike Courquin si è piazzato sul primo gradino del podio in questa difficile categoria. Tanti risultati che ne richiamano altri eccellenti, per una scuderia che ha conosciuto una delle crescite
più spettacolare degli ultimi anni…
