Métamorphose au cœur du pays de Waes. La Grand Place, le cœur palpitant
du nouveau Sint-Niklaas, est plus belle que jamais. La gare et ses alentours
ont été décrétés «plus beau projet de rénovation urbaine de Flandre». Le
plus grand centre commercial de plain-pied de notre pays a ouvert ses
portes en périphérie de la ville. Vous aurez besoin d’une très bonne excuse
pour ne pas venir profiter de cette nouvelle ambiance!
Im Herzen des Waaslands findet eine Metamorphose statt. Der Marktplatz
- der „Grote Markt“ -, das pulsierende Herz des neuen Sint-Niklaas, sieht
schöner aus denn je. Die Bahnhofsumgebung wurde als schönstes
Stadterneuerungsprojekt Flanderns ausgezeichnet. Das größte ebenerdige
Einkaufszentrum unseres Landes öffnete am Stadtrand seine Türen. Dies
ist deshalb der ideale Zeitpunkt, Sint-Niklaas zu besuchen und das neue
Ambiente zu genießen.
The heart of the Waasland region has been transformed. The Grand Place,
the dazzling heart of the new Sint-Niklaas, is more beautiful than ever. The
surroundings of the railway station have been awarded the title of the most
beautiful urban renewal project of Flanders. Belgium’s largest ground-floor
shopping centre opened its doors on the outskirts of the city. This is the
ideal time to come and enjoy the new atmosphere of the city.
Nel cuore del Waasland è in atto una metamorfosi. Il Grote Markt, il cuore
effervescente di Sint-Niklaas, appare più affascinante che mai. Il quartiere
della stazione è stato premiato quale progetto di rinnovamento urbano
più bello delle Fiandre. Inoltre, il più grande centro commerciale ad un
piano del paese ha aperto le porte all’area suburbana, mentre nel nucleo
cittadino tantissimi negozi e caffè originali fremono per far scoprire e
provare i propri tesori. Dovrete inventarvi proprio una bella scusa per non

Chacun sait que la Grand Place de Sint-Niklaas est la plus grande
de Belgique. Désormais, c’est l’une des plus belles. Sint-Niklaas
est une ville pétillante de vie: la plus imposante Grande Place du pays
acceuille en effet de nombreuses animations et activités organisées
pour les jeunes et les moins jeunes. Aucun problème de parking, vous
trouverez très rapidement et en toute sécurité, une place dans le parking
semi-souterrain. En surface, la promenade ponctuée de bancs en bois et
la verdure invitent à la flânerie et à la causette. De superbes sculptures
y jettent un regard curieux sur les visiteurs, qui ne manqueront pas
d’admirer l’alliance réussie d’une architecture contemporaine audacieuse
avec des bâtiments vieux de plusieurs siècles. Vous pourrez en profiter
tranquillement de l’une des nombreuses terrasses situées sur la place.
Everybody knows that Sint-Niklaas has the biggest market square
in Belgium. It’s huge! And now, it’s one of the most impressive. The
Grand Place is full of energy and you’ll know it. The country’s biggest city
square is the venue for loads of activities to interest young and old alike.
Parking in the semi-underground car park is fast, easy and safe. Once
aboveground, the heartwood promenade, benches and greenery invite
you to wander and chat. Beautiful statues look curiously at the visitors.
Bold contemporary architecture stands side by side with traditional old
buildings. You can admire it all from one of the many terraces.
Daß Sint-Niklaas den größten Marktplatz von Belgien hat,
weiß jeder. Ab jetzt ist er auch einer der schönsten. Die Stadt
pulsiert, und das merken Sie gleich: Auf dem größten innerstädtischen
Veranstaltungsplatz des Landes finden zahlreiche Veranstaltungen
für jung und alt statt. Das Auto kann man schnell, flott und sicher
in der halbunterirdischen Parkstraße abstellen. Oben laden die
Hartholzpromenade, Sitzbänke und Grünanlagen zum Flanieren und
Plaudern ein. Attraktive Bilder schauen sich die Besucher neugierig
an. Gewagte moderne Architektur harmoniert mit jahrhundertealten
Gebäuden. Von einer der vielen Terrassen aus kann man alles in sich
aufnehmen.

sanno tutti. D’ora in poi, però, è anche una delle più belle. La città
è in fermento, lo avrete capito: nella piazza cittadina dedicata agli eventi
più grande del paese hanno luogo tantissime attività, per grandi e piccini.
Si parcheggia in modo rapido, facile e sicuro nell’apposita strada, per
metà sotterranea, mentre in superficie, la promenade in legno duro, le
panchine e il verde invitano a passeggiare e a chiacchierare. Belle statue
guardano curiose i visitatori in una cornice in cui l’audace architettura
contemporanea si sposa con edifici secolari. Osservate tutto questo
comodamente seduti in uno dei numerosi bar affacciati sulla piazza.
Sint-Niklaas guarda con gran fiducia al futuro. Un ottimismo che balza
subito agli occhi del visitatore, ad esempio quando si giunge alla
Stationsplein, la piazza della stazione nuova di zecca. Il viale pedonale,
di 18 metri di ampiezza, costituisce l’anello tra il centro ricreativo, la stazione
degli autobus e dei treni e il nucleo urbano. Pavimenti a terrazzo di granito
cinese e asfalto colato grigio si alternano, creando il luogo perfetto per audare
a passeggio. I massicci blocchi in pietra naturale e artificiale levigata su cui
sedersi invitano allo svago, mentre l’ombra è assicurata da una doppia fila di
platani. Un’attrattiva della piazza è rappresentata sicuramente da “Projections
– tryptique” di Marin Kasimir, che ha progettato tre opere d’arte per la piazza.
Sint-Niklaas envisage l’avenir avec confiance. Pour le visiteur, cet
optimisme saute aux yeux, lorsqu’il débarque sur la place de la
gare, flambant neuve. L’esplanade de 18 mètres relie le centre de
loisirs, la gare ferroviaire et routière et le centre-ville. Des terrazzos en
granit chinois alternent avec d’autres en asphalte coulé de couleur grise,
créant ainsi un lieu idéal pour flâner. Des blocs massifs en imitation de
pierre naturelle polie faisant office de bancs invitent à la détente. La
double rangée de platanes répand une ombre bienfaisante. «Projections
– triptyque» de Marin Kasimir, l’artiste qui a créé trois œuvres d’art pour
ce lieu, attire immédiatement l’attention.

Sint-Niklaas blickt voller Vertrauen in die Zukunft. Diesen
Optimismus merkt man als Besucher gleich, beispielsweise wenn
man auf dem nagelneuen Bahnhofsplatz eintrifft. Die 18 Meter
breite Esplanade stellt das Verbindungsglied zwischen Freizeitzentrum,
Busbahnhof, Bahnhof und Stadtkern dar. Terrazzi aus chinesischem Granit
und grauem Gußasphalt wechseln sich ab und schaffen einen idealen
Platz zum Flanieren. Massive Sitzblöcke aus poliertem Kunstnaturstein
laden zu einer kurzen Pause ein. Eine doppelte Platanenreihe sorgt für
Schatten. Ein Blickfang auf dem Platz ist „Projections – tryptique“ von
Marin Kasimir, der drei Kunstwerke für den Platz entwarf.
Sint-Niklaas has faith in the future. This optimism is immediately
evident to the visitor, for example, when you arrive at the brandnew station square. The 18 metre wide esplanade links recreation
centre, bus and railway stations and the city centre. Terrazzos of Chinese
granite alternate with grey asphalt, creating the perfect place to parade.
Massive blocks of polished stone form inviting spots to sit and rest, while
the double row of trees supplies shade. A special eye-catcher in the
square is the “Projections – tryptique”, three works of art designed by
Marin Kasimir.

Musée municipal SteM Zwijgershoek La voix de Sint-Niklaas et de ses
environs se fait entendre par le biais d’un musée interactif. Une sélection
choisie d’objets, de documents, d’images et de sons fait revivre le riche
passé de Sint-Niklaas et du Pays de Waes. L’histoire du SteM est toutefois
universelle. L’être humain y occupe toujours une place centrale : sa voix

Le Musée historique de la Pipe et du Tabac est l’un des sept musées du
tabac de Belgique. Cette industrie a en effet occupé une place importante
à Sint-Niklaas. Le musée retrace l’histoire de la pipe et du tabac jusqu’à ce
jour; il possède également le plus gros cigare du monde! Ouvert tous les
dimanches de 10 à 13 heures.
Das Historisches Pfeifen- und Tabakmuseum ist eines der sieben
Tabakmuseen in Belgien. Hier wird diese Industrie in Sint-Niklaas
beleuchtet. Neben einem Rückblick auf die Geschichte der Pfeife und des
Tabaks von früher bis heute besitzt das Museum auch die weltweit größte
Zigarre. Jeden Sonntag geöffnet von 10 bis 13 Uhr.
The Historic Pipes and Tobacco Museum is one of only seven tobacco
museums in Belgium and gives special attention to this industry in SintNiklaas. Apart from a review of the history of the pipe and tobacco, the
museum owns the world’s biggest cigar! Open on Sundays from 10:00

apprit le piano sur une planche en bois arborant des touches dessinées
et qui devint directeur du Conservatoire de Bruxelles. Ouvert le premier

The Edgar Tinel Museum tells the story of the village boy from Sinaai who
learned to play the piano on a wooden bench on which keys had been
painted, and who went on to become director of the Brussels Conservatory.

ont été disséminées dans la ville de Sint-Niklaas et dans les communes
avoisinantes par Kunst in de Stad (« art dans la ville »).

in den Stadtbezirken wurden von „Kunst in der Stadt“ 40 Skulpturen
aufgestellt.

Castrohof est situé près de la place H. Heyman, dans un îlot de verdure.
Ce château se distingue par sa belle maçonnerie à couches alternées et
quelques imposantes cheminées. (Non accessible au public).

und besticht durch attraktives Speckschichtmauerwerk und einige
bemerkenswerte Kamine (nicht zugänglich für die Öffentlichkeit).

castle stands out thanks to its brickwork with alternating layers and its
remarkable chimneys (not open to the public).

Le Château Moeland situé à la Hospitaalstraat fait partie de l’hôpital
AZ Nikolaas. Ce château magnifiquement restauré est surtout connu
pour sa remarquable salle égyptienne, sa façade colorée et sa superbe
ferronnerie. (Non accessible au public).
Das Moelandschloß liegt in der Hospitaalstraat und beherbergt das
Krankenhaus AZ Nikolaas. Das restaurierte Schloß ist vor allem wegen
seines bemerkenswerten ägyptischen Saals, der bunten Fassade und
der prächtigen Schmiedearbeit bekannt (nicht zugänglich für die
Öffentlichkeit).
The Moeland Castle, located in the Hospitaalstraat, is part of the AZ Nikolaas
hospital. The restored castle is well known for its Egyptian style hall, its
brightly coloured front and its fine ironwork (not open to the public).

Sala egizia, per la facciata variopinta e le magnifiche opere in ferro

Le Moulin Blanc, situé 2, Gladiolenstraat est un moulin à vent datant de
la fin du XVIIe siècle. Le système de broyage est opérationnel et sa façade
en pierres a été restaurée.
Die Weiße Mühle in der Gladiolenstraat 2 ist eine Windmühle vom Ende
des 17. Jahrhunderts. Das Mahlwerk ist noch betriebstüchtig, und die
steinerne Fassade der Mühle wurde restauriert.
The White Mill at Gladiolenstraat 2 is a wind-mill dating from the end
of the 17th century. The milling system is fully operational and the brick
exterior walls have been restored.

Le Château Walburg est situé dans le grand parc de 7 hectares Romain De Vidts, le
long de la Parklaan. Ce magnifique château à douves héberge entre autres des salles
multifonctionnelles, une taverne et une très agréable terrasse.

The Walburg Castle is situated in the large park Romain De Vidts next to the Parklaan.
This magnificent castle, surrounded by a moat, provides you with multifunctional

Sur la place du même nom située au centre de la ville se trouve la
monumentale église datant de la période 1840-1896. En haut du clocher
trône une statue dorée de la Vierge Marie, haute de six mètres. L’église
est accessible gratuitement le matin, en semaine, de 9 h à 11 h 30.
You’ll find this monumental church dating back to 1840-1896 on the
square of the same name in the city centre. A six metres high goldplated statue of the Virgin Mary decorates the top of the tower. Open on
weekdays form 09:00 till 11:30.
Auf dem gleichnamigen Platz im Stadtzentrum steht die monumentale
Kirche aus der Periode 1840-1896. Oben auf dem Turm prangt ein sechs
Meter hohes, vergoldetes Marienbild. Die Kirche ist wochentags jeden
Vormittag von 9.00 Uhr bis 11.30 Uhr kostenlos zugänglich.
Sull’omonima piazza in centro città sorge questa chiesa monumentale
risalente al periodo 1840-1896. Sul campanile spicca una statua dorata
di Maria, alta sei metri. Nei giorni feriali la chiesa è aperta ogni mattina
dalle ore 9.00 alle ore 11.30. Ingresso gratuito.

Cette église se trouve bien sûr sur la place Sint-Nicolaas, à quelques pas
de la Grand Place. Datant du XIIIe siècle, elle émerveille par son superbe
intérieur et son extraordinaire trésor. Elle est accessible tous les jours,
entre 9 h et 11 h 30.
Diese Kirche liegt - selbstverständlich - auf dem Sint-Nicolaasplatz
unweit vom Grote Markt. Sie stammt aus dem dreizehnten Jahrhundert
und besticht durch das attraktive Interieur und den eindrucksvollen
Kirchenschatz. Täglich geöffnet von 9.00 Uhr bis 11.30 Uhr.
This church stands in the square with the same name, next to the Grand
Place. It dates from the thirteenth century and has a beautiful interior
and an impressive church treasure. Open from 09:00 till 11:30.
Questa chiesa non può che trovarsi nella piazza Sint-Nicolaasplein, a due
passi dal Grote Markt. Risale al tredicesimo secolo e sfoggia un magnifico

Tel un joyau, il orne l’un des côtés de la plus imposante Grand Place de
Belgique. Ce bâtiment néogothique du XIXe siècle symbolise la prospérité
que connut la ville à cette époque, lorsque le secteur du textile était le
moteur du développement. La tour du beffroi fait 40 mètres de haut
et dans le hall majestueux trône l’immense statue du cartographe
Mercator.
Situés sur la Grand Place, ces bâtiments prouvent que Sint-Niklaas
occupait déjà une fonction centrale au Moyen-âge. Ces bâtiments
ont été construits au XVIIe siècle, lorsque le village s’est agrandi
jusqu’à devenir la capitale du pays de Waes. L’ancienne maison
paroissiale fut le premier Hôtel de Ville, et le Cipierage servit de
siège au tribunal. Pour le moment, ils abritent l’office du tourisme
de la ville et le info.waasland (la maison du tourisme du pays de
Waes).
Es prangt wie eine Krone zu einer der Seiten des größten Marktplatzes
von Belgien. Das neugotische Gebäude aus dem 19. Jahrhundert
symbolisiert den damaligen Wohlstand der Stadt. Damals war der
Textilsektor der Motor der Entwicklung. Der Belfriedturm ist 40 m hoch.
In der majestätischen Halle steht das große Denkmal des Kartographen
Mercator.
The Town Hall stands like a crown on the side of the biggest market
square in Belgium. The 19th century neo-gothic building is a symbol of
the city’s wealth at that time, when the textile industry was the driving
force of development. The bell tower is 40 metres high. In the majestic
hall there is a big statue of the cartographer Mercator.

grande del Belgio. L’edificio neogotico del 19° secolo simboleggia
la prosperità di allora della città. In quel periodo, il motore
dello sviluppo era il settore tessile. La torre campanaria è alta

Am Grote Markt. Die Gebäude beweisen, daß Sint-Niklaas bereits im
Mittelalter eine Funktion als Zentrum erfüllte. Die Gebäude wurden im
17. Jahrhundert errichtet, als sich das Dorf zur Hauptstadt des „Lands
van Waas“ weiterentwickelte. Das Pfarrhaus war das erste Rathaus, das
Gefängnishaus diente als Gerichtssitz. Zur Zeit befindet sich in diesen
Gebäuden der Fremdenverkehrsverein.
These buildings at the Grand Place show that Sint-Niklaas held a central
position during the Middle Ages. The premises were built in the 17th
century, when the town grew into the regional capital. The Parish Hall
was the first municipality, the Cipierage served as the court seat and
prison. Today these buildings house the visitor centre.
Situati sul Grote Markt, gli edifici attestano la funzione centrale svolta da
Sint-Niklaas già nel Medioevo. Gli stabili furono costruiti nel 17° secolo,
quando il paese si estese sino a diventare la capitale della regione del
Waasland. La casa parrocchiale fu il primo municipio, mentre le carceri
fungevano da sede del tribunale. Attualmente gli edifici ospitano l’Ufficio
di informazioni turistiche.

C’est St. Nicolas, l’ami des enfants par excellence, qui a donné son nom
à la ville de Sint-Niklaas. Cette dernière fête donc évidemment la SaintNicolas comme il se doit!

niederländisch) gab er der Stadt seinen Namen. Selbstverständlich
feiert die Stadt das Nikolausfest ausgiebig!

Fondation de Boudelo Ce vieux marais et l’un des derniers sanctuaires
de paix de la province. Les champs et les prairies se mêlent aux taillis
et aux peupliers du Canada. Cinquante espèces d’oiseaux couvent
dans ce domaine de 149 hectares. Il est traversé par un circuit
pédestre, dont la carte est disponible à l’office du tourisme.
Abtei Boudelo. Der Boden eines der Letzten Zufluchtsorte der Provinz
besteht aus einem alten Sumpf. Wiesen und Weiden wechseln sich
mit Dickicht und Pappeln ab. In diesem 149 Hektar großen Gebiet
brüten fünfzig Vogelarten. Eine Karte mit Wanderwegen durch das
Gebiet ist bei der Touristeninformation erhältlich.
Foundation of Boudelo The soil of one of the last sanctuaries in
the province originates from an old swamp. Fields and grasslands
alternate with coppice and Canadian woods. Fifty species of birds
brood in this area of 149 hectares. A map with a walking route
through the area is available at the tourist office.

Sie einen eisernen Musikpavillon, das Walburg-Schloß und einen
Park mit Sapzierwegen und Seen. Das bewaldete Gebiet liegt an der
Ecke von Parklaan und Moerlandstraat.
Romain De Vidtspark Situated between the Parklaan and Walburg
st., you’ll find an ironwork bandstand, the Walburg castle and a park
with paths and lakes. The wooded area is situated at the corner of
Parklaan and Moerlandstraat.

ospita un bel chiosco in ferro battuto, la roccaforte di Walburg, un
parco con sentieri per passeggiare e vivai. Un bosco si trova all’angolo
tra Parklaan e Moerlandstraat.
Le Parc Romain De Vidts est situé entre la Parklaan et la Walburgstraat.
On y trouve un joli kiosque en fer forgé, le château à douves Walburg
et un parc sillonné par un réseau de sentiers et des viviers. La partie
boisée se trouve au coin de la Parklaan et de la Moerlandstraat.

Peu importe qu’il s’agisse d’un soir d’été torride ou d’un frais
matin hivernal, les couleurs de l’arc-en-ciel illuminent souvent le
ciel de Sint-Niklaas. Sint-Niklaas est en effet la capitale belge de la
montgolfière. Pas étonnant donc, que la majorité des quelque deux
cents aéronautes que compte notre pays habitent à Sint-Niklaas ou
dans ses environs.
Egal, ob an einem schwülen Sommerabend oder einem frischen
Wintermorgen - häufig glänzen am Himmel von Sint-Niklaas die Farben
des Regenbogens. Sint-Niklaas ist nämlich die Ballonhauptstadt von
Belgien. Deshalb ist es kein Wunder, daß die meisten der ca. zweihundert
Ballonfahrer Belgiens in und rund um Sint-Niklaas wohnen.
A sensual summer evening or a cold winter morning, it doesn’t matter.
A rainbow of colours sets the sky above Sint-Niklaas apart. After all,
Sint-Niklaas is Belgium’s balloon capital. So it’s not surprising that
the majority of the two hundred or so balloonists in the country live
in and around Sint-Niklaas.

principaux évènements mondiaux dans cette catégorie!

C’est à Belsele que vous trouverez l’unique brasseur du pays de Waes.
Dès le milieu du XIXe siècle, la famille Boelens est active dans le
milieu de la brasserie. Kris Boelens brasse entre autres la «Bieken»,
une bière au miel que l’on déguste même à New York et à Tokyo. Il
a reçu le «zilveren bierproever», une distinction récompensant les
efforts accomplis pour garder vivante la culture belge de la bière.
In Belsele finden Sie die einzige Brauerei des Waaslands. Seit Mitte
1800 braut hier die Familie Boelens. Kris Boelens braut u. a. das
„Bieken“, ein Honigbier, das sogar in New York und Tokio geschätzt

The only brewery in the Waasland region is in Belsele. The Boelens
family has been brewing beer here since the mid 1800s. Among other
beers, Kris Boelens brews “Bieken” (meaning both ‘darling’ as ‘bee’),
a honey beer that is even known in New York and Tokyo. He has been
crowned the “silver beer taster”, an award for his efforts to keep
Belgian beer culture lively.

Le gâteau de Renart date des années 1800 et contient, entre autres,
des amandes, de l’ananas, du massepain et du Grand Marnier. Il se
retrouve souvent, ainsi que Reynaertbonbons (bonbons de Renart),

L’entreprise familiale Verhofstede, autrefois une brasserie, date
de 1885. La troisième génération l’a transformée dans les années

The Verhofstede family business, formerly a brewery, stems from
1885 and was transformed into a liqueur distillery by the third
generation in the 60s. You can taste their traditional drinks, such

points névralgiques de la ville rénovée ont été reliés par un couloir
de bus. Toutes les 7 minutes et demie, vous pouvez prendre le bus
pour aller au Waasland Shopping Center, en passant par la Grand
Place et la gare, et inversement. Le samedi, c’est gratuit.

The bus is useful for getting around the inner city. The three junctions
of the city renovation are connected by a bus line. There is a bus
every 7½ minutes from the Waasland Shopping Center over the
Grand Place to the station and back. On Saturdays it’s even free.
Un comodo mezzo di trasporto per il centro città è l’autobus. I tre
punti nevralgici del rinnovamento urbano sono stati collegati con
una corsia preferenziale. Ogni 7 minuti e mezzo si può prendere
l’autobus che collega il Waasland Shopping Center, passando per il
