nly three things are needed for
someone to enjoy the magic of kiteboarding: the sea, the wind, and the kite.
Kiteboarding is the fastest developing sport in
the world. It is not windsurfing or wakeboarding or skiing.
It is the utilization of the power of the seawater and the wind that enables man to fly
without an engine-powered craft.
Kiteboarding is a fun sport. Holding the bar of

Paros Kite Pro Center is the first certified
center by IKO (International Kiteboarding
Organization) that was founded in 2002 at
Pounda, on Paros island, by George
Prountzos. Prountzos has an IKO-level 2
trainer’s diploma and is an international

swim. Kiteboarding has managed to combine
the best features of all other extreme sports,

Watching an experienced kiteboarder from
the beach, is like watching an aerial ballet
taking place at 15 meters above the sea.
The rider takes off in the air, hangs
effortlessly from the kite, and dances like a
bird, as he revolves around himself defying
gravity, until he lands smoothly before he
gets ready for the next jump.
The image that kiteboarding projects may be
extreme, but it is still a sport that many may
enjoy.
The only prerequisite is the proper and
gradual training by a professional trainer and
the practice of the sport under safe
conditions.
Pounda, in southern Paros, is considered
one of the best locations for the sport in the
world, mainly due to its geophysical morphology and favorable weather conditions. The

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
In 2005, Greece hosted the Men’s and
Women’s Kiteboarding World Championship,
for the first time, with 85 world-class
participants, who competed for the world title.
Aaron Hadlow (English, 18 years of age) was
the men’s champion for the second year in a
row, and Kristin Boose (German, 28 years of
age) was the first-time women’s champion.
This summer, after last year’s success, Paros
Kite Pro Center is organizing the World
Championship once again, at Pounda, July
10-16. This year, participating countries are:

in the preliminaries for a place in the
finals. Scoring will be kept by a team of
15 international judges.
The prize for Greece is 40,000 euro, to be
split among winners of the first three places,
and the total monetary prize of the world tour for
10 countries is 400,000 euro.
Expect a fierce competition and a fascinating spectacle!
The event will begin with the opening ceremony and a big ‘open’ party on Monday July 10,
at the Holiday Sun Hotel, in Pounda, where the athletes will be introduced and the
competition program will be presented. The preliminaries will follow and, on the July 15-16
weekend, the finals and award ceremonies will take place. The closing ceremony will follow,
with a beach party on Pounda beach.
