niente è per caso
La Onlus ABC di Piacenza è rimasta senza fondi, i medici sono pronti a partire per operare
urgentemente Yuthi, un bimbo con una malformazione cardiaca, guaribile con un intervento
chirurgico entro alcuni giorni dalla nascita; ma servono i fondi per i biglietti aerei per andare
in Romania.
Come ultima spiaggia la Onlus chiama l’Ambasciata di Romania per chiedere aiuto.
L’Ambasciata non dispone di fondi. Il Console riflette sulla situazione e decide di acquistare
i biglietti aerei personalmente.
Il piccolo Yuthi, purtroppo, non ce l’ha fatta. I medici volontari che volevano operarlo non lo
hanno raggiunto in tempo.

The non-profit organisation ABC in Piacenza is short of funds, the doctors are ready to leave
for an urgent operation on Yuthi, a little boy with a heart malformation that can be solved by
surgery within a few days after his birth, but they need the money for the plane tickets to
Romania.
As a last resort, the organisation calls the Romanian Embassy to ask for help.
The Embassy does not have the necessary funds. The Consul considers the situation and
decides to buy the plane tickets himself.
Little Yuthi unfortunately didn’t make it; the volunteer doctors who wanted to operate on him
didn’t get to him in time.

un bimbo può morire per la mancanza
di due biglietti aerei?
Quando vivi la storia di un bimbo che muore per la “semplice” mancanza di un biglietto aereo
o di un visto sul passaporto, ti scopri a osservare il mondo con occhi diversi. Raccogli tutto
il fiato che hai e ti metti a gridare indignato.
Oltre a considerare quella morte ingiusta e inaccettabile, cosa fare?

When you experience the drama of a little boy dying for the “simple” want of a plane ticket or
a travel visa, you start to see the world through different eyes. You take the biggest breath
ever and holler your indignation.
But apart from considering that death unfair and unacceptable, what can you do?

non si può dimenticare
non si può far finta di niente
“Far finta di niente”, troppe volte è stata la causa di tragedie inimmaginabili.
In un giorno normale, attorno a un tavolo normale, nasce un’idea speciale:
«ci vorrebbe qualcuno che aiutasse gli angeli a volare».
Flying Angels comincia il suo percorso.

i primi amici degli angeli
Dopo aver sognato i bimbi di notte, i loro occhi che ci parlano e nel silenzio più assoluto ci
chiedono aiuto, parte la fase due del progetto.
Si è formato il primo gruppo di amici degli angeli.
Ognuno con la propria specializzazione.
Ognuno con l’incarico specifico di analizzare e approfondire uno
dei settori decisivi per lo sviluppo di Flying Angels:
un nuovo modello di solidarietà.
Parte la stesura del progetto vero e proprio.

After having seen children in our dreams at night, their eyes talking to us, silently asking us
for help, stage two of the project takes off.
The first group of friends of the angels is formed.
Each one with their own specialisation.
Each one with the specific remit of analysing and studying one
of the sectors decisive for the development of Flying Angels:
a new model of solidarity.

Incontriamo medici ed ospedali che intervengono sui bimbi con patologie gravi.
Ci confrontiamo con l’emergenza, nei racconti dei medici
che operano, da volontari, in situazioni di estrema urgenza sanitaria.
Verifichiamo e realizziamo tutte le procedure necessarie ad agire.
Effettuiamo le simulazioni d’intervento.
Realizziamo il piano strategico.

FLYING ANGELS WILL BECOME A LINK IN THE CHAIN OF SOLIDARITY, PROVIDING FREE
PLANE TICKETS FOR THOSE CASES DECLARED AS URGENT, FOR CHILDREN UNDER
THE AGE OF 18 AND THEIR CARER OR THE DOCTOR AND ASSISTANT WHO FLY OUT TO
OPERATE AND, IF NECESSARY, ASSISTANCE WITH BUREAUCRATIC PROCEDURES
(VISA).
FLIGHT, JOURNEY, LIFE: these three words summarise the mission of Flying Angels. The “little
angels” come to the “big angels” or vice versa, to receive the treatment needed to save them.
A lifeline that puts those needed an immediate operation with those able to provide it, hope
born out of the ability for effective rapid action.

la storia si ripete
il primo intervento
Arriva una telefonata, Rame un bimbo di 36 giorni rischia di morire per una grave malformazione cardiaca.
La storia si ripete, non siamo ancora operativi, ma questa volta mettiamo in pratica tutta
l’esperienza che abbiamo accumulato durante le simulazioni.
Via, partono le procedure, chiediamo il consenso al nostro comitato scientifico (è sempre un
medico che ci deve autorizzare) «SI, si può salvare».
Il consiglio di amministrazione autorizza il viaggio.
“Rame” è stato il primo intervento di Flying Angels:
- un volo aereo da Pristina a genova,
- un intervento al cuore all’Ospedale gaslini durato 9 ore
- una nuova vita.
... e uno.

viene presentata l’iniziativa di Flying Angels Foundation Onlus.
«Portare insieme, camminare insieme: si apre lo sconfinato campo della tenerezza di tutti coloro che
si accostano ai bambini e alle loro famiglie»
La notizia corre sul web in tutto il mondo cattolico e sanitario, la stampa anche quella di settore plaude all’iniziativa, i maggiori tg escono con la notizia.
Flying Angels esiste! Piace particolarmente questo nuovo modello di solidarietà per la semplicità, l’unicità del servizio, la trasparenza.

i riconoscimenti istituzionali
Flying Angels viene accreditata presso tutte le Ambasciate italiane nel mondo, con la seguente motivazione:
“Per il valore umanitario dell’iniziativa, e per le modalità dell’intervento dell’associazione, si sarà grati
a codeste Sedi se vorranno trattare con particolare tempestività, nel rispetto della normativa vigente,
eventuali pratiche di visto che dovessero essere presentate dalla Flying Angels Foundation Onlus”.
La Fondazione viene autorizzata dalla Prefettura di genova e dal ministero degli Interni.
Flying Angels Foundation Onlus riceve l’iscrizione all’anagrafe unica delle Onlus.

Flying Angels is accredited at all the Italian Embassies worldwide, with the following motivation:
“For the humanitarian value of this initiative and for the ways in which the association operates, we
kindly ask all embassies to ensure particular promptness, while respecting the laws in force, when

The Foundation is authorised by the Prefecture in Genoa and by the Italian Home Office.

Alitalia, gaslini, Flying Angels
Il meeting di Rimini
Lancio AnSA dell’accordo tra Alitalia, Istituto gaslini e Flying Angels Foundation Onlus:
“L’accordo stipulato fra Alitalia, l’Istituto Gaslini e la Fondazione Flying Angels Onlus - che si occupa
di organizzare viaggi per i bambini sotto ai 18 anni affetti da patologie gravi - prevede che i pazienti
e i loro accompagnatori che voleranno a Genova con Alitalia potranno acquistare biglietti a tariffe
scontate fino al 35%, compatibilmente con la disponibilità di posti al momento della prenotazione”.
Flying Angels Foundation Onlus è stata invitata al meeting di Rimini per presentare il proprio
case history, come modello di Onlus da imitare.

“The agreement between Alitalia, the Istituto Gaslini and the Non-profit Flying Angels Foundation which organises trips for children under the age of 18 suffering from serious health problems - means
that patients and their carers will be eligible for up to 35% discount on Alitalia flights to Genoa, subject to seat availability at the time of booking”.
The Non-profit Flying Angels Foundation was invited to the Meeting in Rimini to present its
case history, as an example of an NPO to be imitated.
