CORSO INFORMATORE TURISTICO – CITTA’ di NASO MODULO Lingua inglese TOURIST OFFICE. It was once “Ospedale dei Bianchi”. It was built in the XVIth century and it was destroyed by the earthquake of 1978. The operating theatre is all that remains of the old hospital of “Santa Maria della Pietà” built in XIVth century. Today on the ground floor of this building you can find the municipal tourist office. The neo-Gothic main front is tightened by two cantonali, it is divided into two orders. In the lower order, there is the main door that terminated by a pointed arch and two windows. In the higher order it can find three openings terminated with a pediment. Inside the building you can find, also, a small stone altar in memory of the ancient Church of “San Michele” which occupied the area. EX ALBERGO MIRAVALLE It was built between the 1943 and the 1950 and at first it was a hotel. It was once a Wheat peculium, that was destroyed by the earthquake of 1823. On the first floor there was, also a small theatre destroyed by the earthquake too. It was later the seat of the High School. Today is a municipal deposit. 1 QUARTIERE CASTELLO Naso was surrounded by a high wall that developed along the western and southern side. In order to remember the ancient walls, the ancient “Via Libertà” was called “Piano delle Mura”. After many earthquakes that destroyed the walls, five gates were opened: the “Porta Nuova” (also known as “Porta Convento”,) to the north side, the “Porta Varrica” and the “Porta Piazza” on the southeast side; then “Porta Marchesana and “Porta Castello” that led towards “Porta Convento” by Liberty Street. TEATRO ALFIERI The “Vittorio Alfieri” theatre was built where once there was a Castle which was destroyed in the XIXth century. It is one of the most important cultural monument of the city. The internal frame was taken down and it was replaced by stalls with a grandstand above. The proscenium became bigger through the partial demolition of the building’s walls to allow the different performances. MUSARRA PALACE The palace was built in that place where the castle was destroyed. This palace is considered the most elegant building in Naso. It consists of three floors with two quadrangular gardens. The main entrance remember the access to the castle, where there was the yard of the fortress. 2 PATERNITI PALACE It was a noble residence. It was built beside the castle in 1878. The main internal stairs is illuminated by internal oculi spaces within lunettes in which were placed the candles for lighting at night. PARISI PALACE It was built at the beginning of the XIXth century. It is an irregular building on three floors divided in two parts. The main front is decorated by graffito and plaster. At the same time the balconies were also realized in iron in liberty style. GIUFFRE’ PALACE It was built at the end of the XIXth century near the ancient St Sebastiano church. The palace entry is today signed by a trapezium arch portal decorated with stone decorated spirals and vegetable elements. The portal keystone is pointed out by a marble spiral. The building had wide modifications during the year, in particular in its internal part. PALAZZO PER UFFICI After the fire of 1870 and the earthquake of 28 December 1908 the building was reorganized as a location for offices. 3 EX CASA DEL FASCIO. It was built on a side of “Piazza Roma” square. Here there once there were the ruins of ex “Chiesa di San Pietro dei Latini”. After the fall of the Fascism, the palace became the seat of Council office. CIRCOLO AGATIRSO It was founded in 1868 in the building where once there was Prestanza Mount. In the living room you can find wonderful images inspired by Hamlet and some Painting of Landscapes. BIBLIOTECA COMUNALE It was built between the end of the XVIth century and the beginning of the XVIIIth century in “Piazza Francesco Lo Sardo”. It was once the Town Hall. On the main front it was collocated a clock which was later transferred to the tower of San Pietro dei Latini. The building was damaged by a fire in 1870 and by the earthquake of 1908. 4
