VENICE: An international American fashion designer will march with local citizens at the Venice Film Festival to protest the building of a controversial Venice nuclear power plant VENEZIA: Uno stilista americano di moda internazionale marcerà con la popolazione locale al Festival del Cinema di Venezia per protestare contro la costruzione di una centrale nucleare a Venezia. Geoffrey B. Small, an American international avant-garde fashion designer will march on the Lido di Venezia on September 4th with local citizens during the Venice Film festival to protest the building of a controversial nuclear power plant just a few kilometres away from Venice. ON June 28 in Paris, the designer dedicated his latest fashion collection "Logomania" to the people of Italy and around the world who now face the ominous specter of the global Nuclear Renaissance being pushed upon them by governments and industry as a "clean and safe" energy solution to global warming with an emotional presentation and surprising finale that marked the first international designer fashion collection to openly comes out against nuclear energy and arms proliferation in the 21st century. A documentary short film was shot by Paris film-maker Jerome Chichet that captured the historic, emotional presentation. And a new website launches now in September to promote Logomania (www.geoffreybsmall.net/logomania.html). Since 1993, the designer has been a pioneer of avant-garde environmental "green" fashion design and has presented more fashion collections in Paris than any other American designer. He lives and works near Venice in the Veneto region town of Cavarzere, where he designs and makes one the world's most sustainable and environmentally sound fashion collections. Starting July 2009, when the Italian government reversed a 20 year moratorium on nuclear energy and announced plans to build 8-15 new nuclear power stations all over Italy, Small has been involved with helping local citizens and community leaders in their efforts to stop plans to build dangerous new french EPR nuclear power stations in the Veneto region at various proposed sites that include Chioggia (Ve), Rosolina (Ro), Porte Tolle (Ro), Cavarzere (Ve) and Legnago (Vr). On September 4th, over 25 local and provincial environmental and citizens groups will organize and unite at the regional level for the first time, and form the "Rete Veneta Contro il Nucleare." Il giorno 4 settembre più di 25 gruppi di cittadini di varie località e renewable energies), will arrive at the Lido di Venezia from Chioggia and Venice at 16.00 and form a unified protest "happening" march on the Lido di Venezia arriving at the Palazzo del Cinema in the middle of the 67th Venice International Film Festival. It is hoped that regional, national and international attention will be brought upon the risky and dangerous nuclear projects which could take place as little as 15 kilometres away from the Rialto bridge and Piazza San Marco itself. #30 RELATED STORIES: GEOFFREY B.
