For the third year running, this year’s 2010 Carnival is: SENSATION, 6 sensi x 6 sestieri (6 senses for 6 districts)! This is a fun-focused Carnival, a peoplefocused Carnival! This is a Carnival that brings events out into the streets and squares where the public are. This Carnival, under the artistic direction of Marco Balich, stimulates all our senses by giving each one its own district where its unique qualities are expressed through a series of top-class events and performances. San Marco, complete with an even more spectacular renaissance garden and a host of new surprises, is the home of the mind. all the traditional events, including the volo dell’angelo and the Festa delle Marie will be staged here, as well as new favourites, like the drag Queen Beauty Pageant, the Tango nights, the Best Masked Costume Contest, and naturally, the pick of contemporary street theatre. This year a spectacular variety of “extra-large” acts will bring the garden to life, including “Carillò” by the Catalan company, Cia la Tal, “Operation escargot” with Cie Popol’s fairytale snail, and the giant insects parade by the Spanish company, Sarruga. San Marco, the Kingdom of the Mind, will also be hosting the grand new Carnival Opening Show. Following on from nobel prize winner dario Fo’s “il Mistero Buffo” that opened Sensation 2009, Ferruccio Soleri will be welcoming in the 2010 Carnival with a performance of “arlecchino servitore di due padroni” by the Piccolo Teatro from Milan. The “Campo del Gusto” project organised in partnership with the regione veneto is also back in Cannaregio with top local chefs giving cookery lessons and traditional and exciting new recipes. The juggler nakupelle will add to the fun with his original “Bon appetit” act and a series of food and drink stands will also be there to offer local specialities and tasters. This year San Polo is once again the place for children with a host of new guests and surprises including the english company los Kaos with their animated polar bear. in dorsoduro, Marco Forieri will be presenting his ska-reggae Carnival; and Castello is once again the Kingdom of Touch with its “Carnevale al buio”, a sensational “in the dark” experience led by blind guides, which returns to the Palazzo delle esposizioni in the Biennale Gardens.
