Innovation in AAL solutions
POLAND: facilitating ICT-based innovation in housing and care for elderly and
disabled through AAL solutions
The Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (Polish Academy of
Sciences ) is developing new AAL solutions by applying a participatory research
method. In fact, these innovative and needs-oriented solutions are being
designed with extensive and direct participation of the
end users – elderly and disabled – who undertake the
role of expert designers, helping to improve fruition and
functionality standards in accordance with the
needs of the target group.
AUSTRIA: AAL solutions in integrated supervised flats

combining "on-field" training courses with online learning, through the
realization of the innovative IT tool "Web Nurse" portal www.webnover.hu.
SLOVENIA: open access to information

The Municipality of Leipzig offers a permanent exhibition
on assistive solutions for elderly and vulnerable people.
The exhibition includes a great variety of solutions for
everyday life at home: from the bath-room settings to fully
equipped kitchens. The local staff offer counseling to families
on how to improve their own homes accessibility standards;
moreover, they also offer precious assistance about
budgeting and affordability of the costs.
ITALY: private/public partnership for innovative housing models
2 experimentations in Trieste: an innovative co-housing solution, supported by the Friuli
Venezia Giulia Region, foresees that beneficiaries sign a formal Commitment for
Solidarity. On the other hand, the existing Montebello Residential Complex (in Trieste) is
testing advanced integrated home-care and de-institutionalisation processes with the
development of a stronger community-oriented network, thanks to the commitment of
volunteering families and local associations.
