Tra le province di Modena e Reggio Emilia, ai piedi delle prime colline appenniniche, c’è una terra
speciale. Resa speciale dai suoi abitanti che hanno
saputo trasformarla in energia creativa.
Parallela alla romana via Emilia che attraversa tutta
l’Emilia Romagna c’è un’altra strada che da Maranello a Scandiano, passando per Formigine, Fiorano Modenese, Sassuolo, Casalgrande e Castellarano è ricca di saperi antichi e moderni.
È una “strada maestra” che corre lungo la pianura e
che si collega ad un ambiente collinare di rara bellezza. In questa terra maestra si alternano vigneti
ed oasi naturalistiche, antiche terme, acetaie e
cantine, palazzi, ville nobiliari ed antichi castelli,
dove si sono scritte vere e proprie pagine di storia, da Matilde di Canossa agli Estensi. In questa
stessa strada maestra si incontra un mito chiamato
Ferrari, vero sogno su quattro ruote.
Senza dimenticare che in pianura si potrà scoprire
Ceramicland ovvero la realtà di una civiltà industriale legata alla produzione di piastrelle in ceramica: una storia iniziata nel 1700 narrata attraverso
musei d’impresa e musei pubblici e che prosegue
ancora oggi attraverso nuove cattedrali della creatività, della tecnologia e della produzione.
At the edge of the Apennine foothills in the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia lies a unique
region, a land made special by its inhabitants who
have successfully harnessed its creative energy.
Running parallel to the Via Emilia, the Roman road
that crosses the whole of Emilia Romagna, there is
another road that links Maranello with Scandiano
and passes through the towns of Formigine, Fiorano Modenese, Sassuolo, Casalgrande and Castellarano, linking the plains with the beautiful area of
the Apennine foothills.
This “terra maestra”, this land renowned for its creativity and tradition of fine craftsmanship, has vineyards and nature reserves, ancient thermal baths,
vinegar lofts and wine cellars, stately homes and
ancient castles. It is a land where entire pages of
history have been written, from Matilde di Canossa to the Este family, and is also famous for the
legendary Ferrari car factory. Last but not least, the
region is home to Ceramicland, the world-famous
hub of the ceramic tile industry. As documented in
corporate and public museums, the industry’s history dates back to the eighteenth century and continues today in the region’s factories, veritable cathedrals of creativity, technology and production.

Già gli antichi romani cuocevano argilla
a Torre delle Oche a Fiorano Modenese,
testimonianza storica della vocazione ceramica di questa terra tanto da potersi soprannominare oggi Ceramicland.
È una cultura industriale, quella delle
piastrelle in ceramica, che si sviluppa ancora oggi grazie alla sapiente combinazione di creatività e spinta all’innovazione,

Questa ricerca verso l’innovazione però non
riguarda solo il prodotto, da sempre considerato punto di riferimento mondiale, ma

vulcani attivi delle Salse di Nirano, nelle
linee di una Ferrari o nelle botti secolari
dove si invecchia l’aceto balsamico, nella
sapiente combinazione di design grafico
e cromatico come nei futuristici laboratori di robotica e meccatronica.
Ecco perché questa terra è gelosa custode dei propri tesori e cerca di tramandarli

A land acquires a tradition of master craftsmanship when it is able to fully express its
own creative energy, its own culture.
The cultural energy of this land is likewise
represented by a fresco painted by Jean
Boulanger or the small mud volcanoes
of Nirano, the styling of a Ferrari racing car or the old barrels used for aging
balsamic vinegar, the skilful combination

piccoli vulcani freddi sotterranei attivi che costituiscono un

Sorta come fortificazione fu poi
trasformata nel 1500 dal conte
G.Boiardo in sontuoso palazzo
rinascimentale e luogo di sperimentazione scientifica con
L.Spallanzani, di cultura con
la presenza di F.Petrarca, d’arte
con gli affreschi di N.dell’Abate.
Esempio autentico di architettura vernacolare utilizzato per
la lavorazione del latte e per
trasformarlo poi in una squisitezza di formaggio chiamato
Parmigiano-Reggiano
Fortilizio costruito alla metà del
1400 e da cui si diramava una
cerchia di mura difensive che
cingeva l’intera collina. Piazzale
Cairoli, un piccolo esempio di
borgo medioevale che ci riporta
alla storia, all’antica denominazione longobarda di questo
centro come Castrum Lariani.

As well as visiting a local industrial
site (museum or ceramic research/
production facility or the splendid
Ferrari museum in Maranello), you
will be able to extend your experience
by visiting places of outstanding interest and beauty.
These include the ancient Rocca dei
Boiardo in Scandiano, a traditional
inn attached to an old cheese factory
in Casalgrande, the splendidly preserved mediaeval town centre of Castellarano, the Ducal Palace in Sassuolo and the ancient Baths of Salvarola,
the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin
in Fiorano Modenese, the active
mud volcanoes in Nirano, Formigine
castle, a vinegar loft or the Golf and
Country Club.
