PASTORAL CARE Please don’t forget to inform us if you are going to be
hospitalized so one of our priests can visit. Provide us with your name,
hospital, room number, phone number and, when possible, how long you
will be hospitalized. If you are unable to attend Mass, due to poor health,
illness or advanced age, please call so a Eucharistic Minister can bring
Communion to you. Anointing of the Sick may be requested because of
scheduled surgery or treatment for a life-threatening illness. Call us prior
to your surgery or treatment. Anointing of the Sick at Mass may be celebrated before you go into the hospital. Directly inform one of our priests or
call one of our Pastoral Administrators.

OGGI LA CHIESA CELEBRA IL BATTESIMO DEL
SIGNORE - L’evangelista Marco racconta il battesimo
di Gesù. Per lui, tutto ha inizio col battesimo di Gesù.
Comincia
una
nuova
era,
una
creazione
assolutamente nuova. Il Creatore prende il posto della
creatura. Il Salvatore scende nel Giordano come un
peccatore, il giudice di questo mondo fa la parte di un
nuovo Adamo. Gesù esce dall’acqua e intraprende la
propria missione, come all’inizio l’uomo fu plasmato dal
fango, mentre un flutto risaliva dalla terra e bagnava la
superficie del suolo (Gen 2,6). Gesù riceve lo Spirito
Santo come già un tempo: “Dio... soffiò nelle sue narici
un alito di vita” (Gen 2,7).
E Gesù, secondo Marco, diviene l’uomo nuovo, proprio
come di Adamo si dice: “E l’uomo divenne un essere
vivente” (Gen 2,7). L’umanità ricomincia allora, col
battesimo di Gesù, su basi nuove. Dovrà ancora
passare attraverso l’esperienza della morte ed entrare
quindi nella gloria della risurrezione. Dovrà ancora, e
deve tuttora, trasformarsi lentamente in ogni uomo,
aspettando il giorno in cui “vedranno il Figlio dell’uomo
venire sulle nubi... Ed egli... riunirà i suoi eletti dai
quattro venti, dall’estremità della terra fino all’estremità
del cielo” (Mc 13,26-27). Allora non ci sarà più
battesimo (At 21,23-27).
Monsignore Cassato e tutti dell’ufficio parrocchiale
ringraziano quelli che hanno reso il nostro Natale,
e Capodanno un’evento particolare Sant’Atanasio.
 A tutti quelli che erano presenti a Messa – Grazie.
 A tutti quelli che hanno decorato la Chiesa, hanno
aiutato con musica e inni, che hanno preparato i
bambini per le nostre celebrazioni – Grazie.
 A tutti quelli che hanno servito la chiesa come
lettori, ministri, uscieri, chierichetti e sacrestani –
Grazie.
 A tutti quelli che hanno preparato la Liturgia, che
hanno donato fiori e decorazioni – Grazie.
 A tutti quelli che hanno preparato i tre presepi, gli
alberi di Natale, le luci e a tutti quelli che hanno donato
un’albero in memoria di persona cara – Grazie.
 A tutti quelli che hanno “acceso le luci di
Bensonhurst” – Grazie.
 E a TE che sei con noi nel nostro cammino con il
Signore, come i Magi trovarono e adorarono Gesu’, la
nostra preghiera e’ che tutti noi continuiamo a cercare
Cristo nella nostra vita.

FIESTA DEL BAUTISMO DEL SEÑOR
A veces se dice que Juan Bautista fue el precursor
del Mesías;el mensajero de Dios para traer la
Buena noticia al pueblo escogido acerca del hijo
de Dios que estaba entre ellos. Juan dijo que el no
era sino la voz que gritaba en el desierto , para exhortar al pueblo a preparar el camino para el que
venía detrás de el . Quería dejar claro que la
gente no debia fijarse en él sino buscar al que era
mas eminente y digno. No merezco ni siquiera inclinarme para desatarle la
correa de sus sandalias. No cabe duda que Juan se consideraba su servidor.
Tanto Jesús como Juan se consideraban servidores de Dios, con la misión de
servir al pueblo de Dios escogido.
Cuando Jesús lavó los pies a los discipulos , dijo a los doce que ellos debían ir y
hacer lo mismo , en otras palabras , seguir su ejemplo de servicio. En otra
ocasión mencionó que cada uno tendría lugar en el Reino dependiendo de
como y cuanto hubiese servido a los demas.
Juan el Bautista reconoció la grandeza de Jesús y nosotros haríamos bien imitandolo en este sentido. No debemos olvidar nunca y ademas tenemos que reconocer la dignidad y la gloriosa majestad que le corresponde a Jesús como hijo
de Dios . El nos une asi mismo por medio del Espiritu Santo en el Bautismo,
para ser hermanos suyos e hijos de su Padre. El es quien nos brinda la vida y el
poder de Dios al Bautizarnos con el Espiritu Santo.

Rosary Society
The Rosarians welcome all women of the Parish. The Society
is dedicated to the Blessed Mother, the growth of the love of
God through Mary. We honor the Blessed Mother by the constant and reverent praying of the rosary in our daily life.
We are involved in all Parish activities, liturgical and social –
and keep informed about civic community activities.
Spiritual activities include an Annual Retreat, Annual Communion Breakfast and Baby Shower for Unwed Mothers. The Society raises money to help our Church continue outreach efforts.
The fundraisers include: Christmas Fair, Basket Night, Chinese
Auction.
We attend the 10:00am Mass on the Third Sunday of the
month (except July & August) followed by a meeting & light
breakfast in the School.

Holy Name Society
New members are welcome to help with our community
service work. The Society is a spiritual organization, a fraternity of the Catholic Church, spreading devotion to the
Name of Jesus. Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow!
The present Holy Name Society members dedicate themselves to corporal works in helping our Parish Organizations
and School, with various fundraising. The Holy Name meets
every second Sunday of each month (after the 10 a.m.
Mass), except for July & August.
Men of all ages are welcome, especially the fathers of children attending St. A’s School and Catholic War Veterans

CARMELITES THIRD ORDER OF ST. ATHANASIUS PARISH:
Lay Carmelites meet on the second Saturday of the month.
The meeting is held in the Rectory basement at 10:00 A.M.

Support Groups at St. A’s
Bereavement Support meet on Monday, from 7:30 - 9:00
p.m. in the Nazareth Institute. Jan. 12, 19, 26; Feb. 2, 9
On Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Jan. 13, 20, 27: Feb. 3, 10
Gamblers Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women
who share their experience, strength and hope with each
other that they may solve their common problem and help
others to recover from a gambling problem. Meeting every
Friday night at 7:30p.m. in the Nazareth Institute.
Overeaters Anonymous members talk about their struggles
with compulsive eating. Meeting every Wednesday night
at 8:00p.m. in the Nazareth Institute.
Is your life effected by someone who is drinking? To help
them, you must first help yourself. Al-Anon helps families
and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living
with the problem drinking of a relative or friend.
Our Al-Anon Group meets in the Nazareth Institute every
Friday 8-9:30p.m. & Saturday 7:30-9:30p.m.

In order for designated Parish Ministries & Organizations to reserve one of our rooms at St. A’s, we require you to fill out our Parish Calendar & Room Request Form. The form is available in the rectory or can be downloaded from our website. We even
have an E-form so you complete this form without writing. Just e-mail it back to us, or print it out and drop it off. All Requests
must be made using our form. E-mail completed form to AnnaMarie Scuteri at [email protected]. This is the ONLY
way to reserve a room here at St. A's. The group listed on the parish calendar is the group that has the right to use that
space. If you are not a designated ministry of our parish, permission must be granted from our Pastor, Msgr. Cassato, a rental
fee is paid, and a lease agreement completed in order to use space.
Sunday Bulletin Deadlines The Sunday Bulletin must be e-mailed to our printer by 10a.m. Monday. All announcements must be
submitted in WRITTEN form only (handwritten, typed, computer, fax, e-mailed, etc) by 3p.m. Friday. Announcements received
after the deadline will be published the following week. No one on the parish staff will assume the responsibility for your ministry’s
articles. Include your bulletin articles in your advance planning for your event. All Flyers need to be approved by a staff member
and submitted by Email only to [email protected].
Our Printer Requires all Black or Grayscale Print, Clip Art & Graphics. If you submit color graphics, the printer will NOT print
your flyer. Please email announcements to [email protected] no other email addresses!
