IL BIANCO È OVUNQUE
Tinge tutto lo spazio Baxter a Maison&Objet. E tutta la nuova installazione
di Paola Navone. Bianco naturale. Bianco lucido. Bianco opaco. Bianco
che non è mai solo bianco. Si respira una bellezza rarefatta che viene da
lontano. Da qualche immaginario luogo del nord di un tempo passato.
Bello pensare che gli oggetti della collezione siano arrivati qui dopo un
lungo viaggio. Contaminati da tutti i mondi che hanno attraversato.
La pelle Baxter è come sempre l’anima della collezione. Pelle lavorata con
sofisticati sistemi di concia fino a diventare morbidissima. Come Baxter
sa fare. Nella nuova collezione la pelle assume forme diverse e texture
nuovissime. Ora è liscia e lucida. Tesa come cuoio. Ora stropicciata come
tessuto. Ora è floccata come velluto. Ora ironicamente stampata.
C’è un grande divano in pelle di ispirazione deco con i braccioli a voluta.
Lo schienale è lavorato a capitonnè. La seduta è un lunghissimo cuscino in
pelle morbidissima. Poi un divano dalle forme classiche accogliente come
un nido. Seduta e schienale hanno grossi cuscini con cuciture a vista.
Sembra lavorato a capitonnè anche lui, invece è rivestito di pelle liscia
stampata. È un trope-l’oeil. Una piccola delicata magia.
C’è un tavolo grande con struttura in ferro e piano in marmo di Carrara. E
una lunga consolle che può essere anche scrittoio.
C’è una poltrona in pelle, morbida e panciuta come le poltrone di un tempo
che il rivestimento in pelle floccata rende inaspettatamente moderna. E
una poltrona grande come un trono con struttura in legno lavorato a motivi
floreali e rivestimento in pelle a stampa floccata con grandi fiori bianco su
bianco. C’è una fantasiosa serie di sedie e poltroncine che nel loro viaggio
dal nord si sono trasformate. Ciascuna a suo modo. Con un pizzico di
ironia. Una curiosa bergere in ferro in cui schienale e braccioli arrotondati,
realizzati con profilo unico, avvolgono una comoda seduta in pelle. Una
divertente Sellerina in pelle lucidissima. Una poetica seggiolina in ferro
con seduta e schienale ovale imbottiti e rivestiti in pelle. E un’altra con
schienale vestito.
Poi, diversa da tutte le altre, una buffa sedia a dondolo rivestita di morbida
mongolia. Una presenza giocosa e inattesa. Forse un curioso puppet
animato. Forse una piccola e sconosciuta creatura delle nevi. Un pouf
grande come un’isola rivestito di pelle morbida e cascante. E uno piccolo
in pelle tesa che può essere anche tavolino.
Tutti insieme gli oggetti della collezione formano una fantasiosa e poetica
miscellanea. Dove convivono spontaneamente un po’ di favola e un po’ di
passato. Un po’ di incanto. Un po’ di ironia. È bianca e gessosa l’ultima
scenografia di Paola Navone per Baxter.
White is everywhere.
It covers the whole Baxter space at Maison&Objet. And all of the new
installation by Paola Navone. Natural white. Glossy white. Matt white.
White that is never just white. It exudes a refined beauty that can be seen
from far away. From some imaginary northern place of yesteryear.
So exciting to think that the objects in the collection have arrived here after
a long journey! Animated by all the worlds that they have crossed.
Baxter leather is, as always, the soul of the collection. Leather processed
using sophisticated tanning systems until it becomes extremely soft. As
only Baxter knows how. In the new collection, leather takes on different
forms and new textures. Now it is smooth and shiny, taut like hide. Now it
is crumpled like fabric. Now it is flocked like velvet. Now ironically printed.
There is a large deco-inspired leather sofa with spiral armrests, the deepbuttoned backrest, the seat a very long, soft leather cushion.
Then, a sofa, with classic forms, that envelops you like a nest. The large
cushions of the seat and backrest have visible stitching. It also seems to
be deep-buttoned but, instead, it is upholstered in smooth printed leather.
A trompe-l’oeil optical illusion. Small, delicate magic!
There is a large table with iron frame and top made from Carrara marble.
And a long console that doubles as a desk.
There is a leather armchair, soft and rounded like the armchairs of yesteryear
whose flocked leather upholstery makes it unexpectedly modern.
And a large armchair like a throne, with a carved wooden frame, boasting
floral motifs with flocked print leather upholstery and large white on white
flowers. There is an amazing array of chairs and small armchairs which, in
their journey from the north, have become transformed. Each in its own
way. With a dash of irony. A curious iron wing chair whose rounded backrest
and armrests, created with a single profile, surround a comfortable leather
seat. A fun Sellerina chair in shiny leather. A poetic iron fold-out chair with
padded seat and oval backrest, and leather upholstery.
And another with cushioned backrest. Then, different from all the rest, a
funny rocking chair upholstered in soft Mongolia leather. A playful and
unexpected presence. Perhaps a curious animated puppet. Perhaps a
small and unknown creature of the snow.
An ottoman as big as an island upholstered in soft, saggy leather. And a
small one in taut leather that doubles as a coffee table.
All together the objects in the collection form an imaginative and poetic
miscellany. Where a touch of fairy tale and a touch of the past live together
spontaneously. A bit of enchantment. A bit of irony.
The latest set creation by Paola Navone for Baxter is chalky white.
