…Non credo, ripeto non credo, alle ideologie, ma per quanto riguarda l’amore verso la sapienza è
pieno e riconoscente. Posso solo sommessamente spiegare che quando lavoro mi interrogo e cerco,
chiamando forte, che la cosa che cerco con tanto affanno venga da me spontaneamente. Se questo
succede, non sempre purtroppo, allora comincia una specie di tira molla su ciò che bisogna e ciò che
mi piacerebbe. Tra le molte possibilità che a ogni incrocio mi si presentano posso scegliere la
direzione, non saprò mai se era quella giusta. Ma so con certezza che alla fine, l’oggetto che nasce è
leggero, senza presunzioni senza retorica, pieno solo di amore e riconoscenza per chi delle mie fatiche
trova un moto di simpatia. La mia felicità sarebbe raggiunta nel momento in cui trovassi conferma
che dalla mia fatica un altro simile a me volesse condividere questa felicità.

…I don’t believe—I seriously don’t believe in ideologies; but as for love of wisdom, it is full and
rewarding. I can only modestly say that when I work I contemplate, seek out, and call out loud for
that which I am looking for, until finally it spontaneously comes to me. When this happens—and
unfortunately it doesn’t always happen—begins a contest between what ‘should be’ and what I would
‘prefer to be.’ At every moment I am faced with many paths and possibilities, and although I can
chose in which direction to go, I will never know if it was the right one to take. I do, however, know
that in the end the final object will be light, without presumptions or rhetoric, simply filled with love
and gratitude in the eyes of those who look at my labour with sympathy. My happiness would then be
complete if only my toil could encourage someone else to share such joy.

.. Ich glaube nicht – ich wiederhole: Ich glaube nicht – an Ideologien. Zur Weisheit habe ich jedoch
eine volle und dankbare Liebe. Ich kann bloß leise erklären, dass ich bei der Arbeit mich immer
selbst befrage und versuche, dass das, was ich so mühsam suche, spontan zu mir kommt und rufe
laut danach. Und wenn das nun passiert, was jedoch leider nicht immer der Fall ist, fängt das Hin
und Her an über das, was man tun sollte und über das, was ich gern hätte. Unter den vielen
Möglichkeiten, die ich an einer Kreuzung habe, kann ich die Richtung wählen und werde nie
erfahren, ob es wohl die richtige war. Ich weiß jedoch mit Sicherheit, dass am Ende das Objekt, das
daraus entsteht, leicht ist, frei von Überheblichkeit, frei von Rethorik, bloß voller Lieber und
Anerkennung für diejenigen, die meiner Mühe mit Sympathie begegnen. Mein Glück würde in dem
Moment entstehen, in dem ich die Bestätigung hätte, dass aus meiner Mühe heraus jemand, der mir
ähnlich ist, dieses Glück mit mir teilen möchte.
