Between the Mediterranean and the Alps, in

designed by Vauban and its 12th century Great Tower. A stroll through its ancient streets will lead

This region, ideally situated between sky and lake, this region is a top choice
for nature-lovers and those who love peace and quiet, contemplation and open
air sporting activities. The blue of the Serre-Ponçon Lake contrasts with the
rocks of the Grand-Morgon to the north and the 2,505 metre Dormillouse to the
south. The delta plane site at St Vincent les Forts, a balcony over the Ubaye

To “tame” the Durance river, a dam was conceived, to reduce the effects of flooding and meet the water needs of the irrigation of the Lower Durance
region. The Serre-Ponçon site was ideal, even if it called for the displacement of 1,500 inhabitants!
The lake was born in 1961, and with it, a great tourist site. Today the Serre-Ponçon Lake is a paradise of 3.000 hectares which stands comparison with
the most fashionable resorts. It is a key tourist centre with its constantly-changing setting of vivid blue water.
A tour of the lake by car, by bicycle or on foot reveals its many viewpoints.
