Descrizione: A Czech research institute has developed low energy depolymerization of waste PET bottles using
microwave energy. The products are polymer grade terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. The process includes the
following steps: - depolymerization - separation - purification - drying Separation of products is made by filtration
and distillation. Depolymerization of PET bottles in the form of flakes is performed in microwave reactor. Total
depolymerization is achieved by applying microwave energy of frequency 2450 MHz with low energy consumption.
Ethylene glycol is simultaneously removed by distillation under reduced pressure. Solid product is dissolved in
water and insoluble impurities (PE, PP, PVC etc) are removed by filtration. Purification of terephthalic acid into

by crystallization. Drying is made in continuous microwave dryer. Water and solvents are recycled. Only waste is
distillation residua. License agreement is sought.
