VOLUNTEER MOVEMENT Our organization was founded by some volunteers who attended European Voluntary Service in October 23rd 2009, in Bursa. We offer social and voluntary opportunities people from 15-30 (from high schools to young working adults) and with this age groups we organize projects, trainings and activities for various age groups ranging from children to old people. We offer them different training opportunities both in our country (local and national) and abroad (Exchanges and trainings), and being a part of different projects; also we run Görükle Youth Center where they can always find a way to improve their skills and knowledge. Within the activities of our organization, we met and work with NİŞ (Nilüfer Special Education Vocational Training Center) school earlier in local projects, so now its time to involve international volunteers via EVS to do voluntary activities to involve youngsters more to the daily life and society; and make them aware of their abilities and push their limits. About the Project: Main Topics: Enhance social inclusion, equal opportunities, Access for disadvantaged, Poject Summary: Volunteers will work in Nilüfer Özel Eğitim Mesleki Eğitim Merkezi (Nilüfer Special Education Vocational Training Center) which is a vocational school for speacial need children. They will be working in smaller groups mainly dance and music related activities and preparation and dissemination of the activities and social inclusion related topics during week. Proposed Activities: The volunteers: will have some workshops and tasks using art and some other tools which are arranged in the school. At the school there also already ongoing works related to photography, music and playing musical instruments especially drums, and sport teams in some different fields. Thus, volunteers will support already existing ones in order to work with more student and add more workshops/clubs related to their skills such as dance, plastic arts, other musical instruments, etc. will organize campaigns on social media and will make (together) some short videos/viral advertisements to raise awareness on social inclusion and some related topics such as equality, discrimination, exclusion from the society, disables, some health related issues and some other groups who are excluded from the society. will have office works related to their tasks such as documentations, research, and montage of their visual outcomes. will promote YiA programs and EVS program itself and inclusion topics by writing articles on our blog and some social media tools, some other written tools. can participate actively and benefit from clubs, teams, projects and group activities of the organization they will work in. will take Turkish language course during the service and can teach their mother tongue to local people, students at the school will have exhibitions with the visual materials they have taken during their project (half way and at the end ) will support the promotion activities of school and the works done. Shortly, as social inclusion is a topic which has many different dimensions such as poverty, education, etnical background, disability ...etc. the volunteers will in contact with especially students with some disabilities and work with them to make them more involved in life by the principle of doing together, but also they will work to make other people who exclude them -actually-more aware of the realities by sharing the outcomes of our activities and some other ways such as visual aids, social media, written materials such as blog and also seminars and meetings with experts. Basic knowledge of using design programs would be helpful, but not a must. Project Place: NİŞ (Nilüfer Special Education Vocational Training Center) (http://niluferisokulu.meb.k12.tr/) It is in Nilüfer which is one of the three central municipality, also it is welknown and a pioneer with very good practices in their local both for social and environmental planning. The project and activities mostly will be held in this school which is one of the best school for the children and young people with special needs because of their disabilities not only in Bursa but also in Turkey. The school itself already offers many opportunities to young people physically but in order to work them in a better way, they need more people who can support the disabled youngsters in smaller groups for their social development besides teaching work related skills. The school offers an education which involves educators, families and mentally disabled students together in order to educate and prepare studens to the life. Thanks to the education they take here, they will gain self confident to live less depended to their families. There are 40 teachers and 230 students at the moment, and other staff working at the school. The school has many ateliers and open space for students to learn and practice. They are tought by their teachers in ateliers, also they are offered by some companies, factories or Ministery of Education to produce some products. Thus, they learn real life production process and will be ready to work in this fields after graduation. Also there is a cafe with the same name in the school garden, which is created by the school initiavtive but run by the families of the students and helped by some students for serving there. It welcomes not only schools staff and students and their families but also other people from the city. It is a gathering place for many people from different fields and backgrounds (https://www.facebook.com/niskafe?fref=ts) Project Duration 7 Months between 7 January 2015- 7 August 2015 ( 2 Volunteers) Accommodation & Public Transportation Volunteers will stay in a flat and share it with other young people who are either students or volunteers of other projects. The basic needs of the daily life will be ready in the flat but no luxury should be expected. Public transport is needed to get to the project place, so they will be given a bus card to use in the city. Monthly payment for food will be given together with your monthly allowance, but lunch will be given at school during project activities.
