If any of your volunteers is interested in these projects, we would be happy to receive their application and learn more about them. There are 11 EVS placements that are available. We wish to apply for April 30th, 2015 deadline. Most projects start in September 2015 and last 12 months. Please check for details in each section. Some projects involve direct contact with a disadvantaged public. This means that we ask volunteers to have a beginner/intermediate level of French in order to guarantee a smooth integration in these projects. There are different kind of services which are offered to the residents, among which social support, medical service, reception, school support and leisure time activities. Volunteers will integrate the service of leisure activities, whose aims are, on the one side, to support children and teenagers in their schooling and, on the other, to organise leisure time activities, mainly in the social and cultural field, for the residents. Some activities in the neighbourhood are also carried out, whose aim is to raise awareness in the local community about asylum seekers. Volunteers will work with children and with adults. With children: volunteers will co-organise and co-lead after-school activities, inside or outside the centre, workshops according to their abilities and to the needs of residents (games, DIY workshops, help with homework,...). With adults (and more specifically with women): volunteers will be asked to organise different kind of activities (from sports to social activities or cultural happenings) according to their interests and and possibilities within the centre. Accommodation in a shared flat in Brussels (volunteers may share a bedroom with another EVS volunteer) Due to the current asylum policy in Belgium, the number and the profile of the residents can be subject to changes beyond control of the centre and JAVVA. We are therefore looking for flexible volunteers with a good capacity for adaptation as the content of the project may differ from the description. 2013-BEFR-42 Facere – Daycare centre accommodating adults with cerebral palsy (Brussels) 6 or 12 months starting September 1st, 2015 (1 place) Facere is a daycare centre for adults with cerebral palsy. The centre hosts about 30 people who need physical, psychological and social care. The institution is located at the edge of the Brussels Region in Anderlecht, next to the Erasmus Campus university hospital. The volunteer will integrate the team of workers that runs workshops related to gardening, cooking, computer science, art-deco, musicals , painting, world studies and inter-cultural exchanges, radio, the making of animated films, cyclo-dance, etc. as well as various athletic activities and cultural outings. He/she will also be able to suggest new types of activities and participate in their planning. It is important for the volunteer to be sincerely interested in an understanding of the difficulties associated with living with a handicap and capable of working in this sort of environment. It can host up to 830 asylum seekers, which makes it the largest open centre of Belgium. Residents sleep in dorms (if they’ve arrived alone) or in private apartments (if they’ve arrived with their family). Most of them are single men, but there are women, families and even minors without their parents. Their nationality is very diverse, coming from all over the world. Petit Château employs about 100 staff members, both French as Dutch speaking. While part of the Buro Bizzi team, the volunteer will have a particular task at Petit Château. He/she will bring those little extras the professional staff isn't able to bring. The volunteer can organise new activities or continue already existing activities. Possible tasks at the Buro Bizzi: organising activities for adults and minors sport activities for adults (mainly soccer, volleyball, table tennis, fitness) other trainings: sewing, dancing, painting, language lessons IT: helping out with starting up computers, helping to find information about the country of origin daily life orientation: how to take a bus, how to read a map,... We are therefore looking for flexible volunteers with a good capacity for adaptation as the content of the project may differ from the description. 2013-BEFR-16 L'Enfance de l'Art – Nursery & kindergarten (near Tournai) 12 months starting end of August, 2015 (4 places) "L’Enfance de l'Art" is a non profit organisation whose aim is to help parents to become more involved in their children's education. To that purpose, the organisation set up hosting facilities for children or people with reduced autonomy, leisure workshops, nurseries, schools. The organisation uses alternative pedagogies (Steiner & Loczy). One volunteer will work in a nursery (0-3 years) and three others will be in a kindergarten (36 years). With the support of the educators, volunteers will carry out different kind of activities with the children: painting, drawing, fairy tales and nursery rhymes (volunteers can share some in their own language), making cakes and breads, outdoor games, crafts, walks in woods,... It is important for the volunteer to be sincerely willing to work with children under 7 years, and have related qualities: be smiling, gentle, helpful, attentive, responsible, creative and loving, loving crafts,... The project of turns around 3 dimensions: - Friendly atmosphere: open to any kind of public, organisation of diverse entertainment activities (board game nights, concerts, free stages, knitting workshops, conversation groups, writing workshops,...). Altérez-Vous is a place to meet, share and interact with others. These activities are open to everyone and new ideas are always welcome. - Responsible consumption: the café gives priority to local, seasonal, organic and fair products. - Awareness to societal issues (the main objective of Altérez-Vous): organisation of debates, conferences, group discussions, meetings with local farmers, awareness events,... Examples of tasks for the volunteer: to help with the organisation and the promotion of cultural activities (thematic nights, concerts, exhibitions, intercultural activities,...) Awareness to societal issues directly with the clients and through the organisation of conferences,... Development of local, organic and fair trade by helping the staff to find new products Volunteers will also have the opportunity to develop a personal project related to the café's values. Accommodation: in a host family in Louvain-la-Neuve. 2012-BEFR-17 Caritas "Logis de Louvranges" for asylum seekers for women and children (Brabant Wallon) 12 months starting September 1st, 2015 (2 places) The project in Louvranges consists of hosting female asylum seekers, single or with children in 22 apartments. The team assists the residents in the legal, social and medical field. The goal is to give the mothers a maximum of autonomy starting from their own capacity in order to be ready to leave the Logis and start an independent life. Volunteers will be working with the service of leisure activities to carry out activities for the children and the women of the centre. Their main tasks will be: • • • • to help with the organisation of the daycare within the centre and to suggest activities for children (0-3 years old); to co-lead and to co-organise activities for children (creative and artistic workshops, sports activities,...); to develop a bicycle workshop (lessons, rules of the road,...); to co-organise workshops with families in order to improve communication and community harmony (cooking workshop or any other activities that volunteers want to organise). Volunteers will also have the opportunity to develop a personal project linked to the centre's values if they want to.
