1 CFU ADE – Altre – MED/09
Students who start attending the lane are often disoriented in their role and unable to make the most of
opportunities for their first meeting with patients who are presented to them. The course will provide
guidance to the students (through practicals) on how to manage their time in the ward in the best way. The
course will deal with demonstration on how interviewing the patient, write down the history data correctly
on the patient record, submit the patient to the intern and interact with the patient and his/her family in
matters of greater emotional involvement.
Analyzing the current situation of the relationship between doctor and patient, the course explores the
techniques of active listening and the correct attitudes to relate to the patient and his/her disease,
particularly when it comes to the situation of urgency and emergency, where the doctor-patient
relationship becomes unequal and when you have to deal with the patients’ relatives. These aspects of
interaction can also influence the management of the case and the interpretation of clinical and laboratory
elements, leading somehow the examiner to erroneous and false conclusions. The discussion of the
theories and case studies allows to revise different possibilities of management both of the relationship
with the patient and the interpretation of clinical and instrumental data.
