The course syllabus will focus on a range of routine everyday situations and students will learn basic communicative functions, simple phrases and everyday expressions in order to exchange basic information and interact with people. PROGRAMME 22 October 2015. Lesson 1 – Welcome! Introductory lesson. Greeting people, introducing oneself, asking for and giving personal information on origin and age. Class interaction. 29 October 2015. Lesson 2 – Moving around Describing and moving around the city. Asking for directions, and enquiring about transport and time. 5 November 2015. Lesson 3 – Food Asking for and giving information on food and drinks, ordering food and interacting with people in bars and restaurants. 1 12 November 2015. Lesson 4 – Doing the shopping Spoken interactions in shops and supermarkets: greeting people, buying and asking about prices and quantities. 19 November 2015. Lesson 5 – Shopping for clothes Going shopping, choosing and trying on clothes, accessories and shoes: speaking about sizes, enquiring about clothes (colours, fabrics, materials, shapes, etc.). 19 November 2015. Lesson 6 – At work Spoken interactions in offices or other public places. Talking about future plans and job opportunities. 26 November 2015. Lesson 7 – Free time Talking about free time activities, favourite sports, hobbies and music. 3 December 2015. Lesson 8 – Health The human body. Talking about physical condition and health. 10 December 2015. Lesson 9 – Holidays Talking about travelling and holidays; asking and giving information about trips and their duration, expressing wishes about future holidays and giving advice. 17 December 2015. Lesson 10– Saying goodbye Final lesson. Christmas in Italy, comparing customs and traditions in different countries. Active student participation will be encouraged through maps, pictures, videos and games. Teaching aids Maps, games, handouts, videos.
