MEETING VENUE Dear Colleagues, The pursuit of translational medicine is the conversion of scientific discovery into health improvement, one of the priority of biomedical science in 21st century. The main goal of this meeting is to bring together clinicians, research scientists and industry partners for discussing the medical advances from the laboratory to the clinic. For this reasons, The Italian Society of Immunology, Clinical Immunology and Allergology (SIICA) is pleased to invite you to attend the “3rd Conference on translational medicine on pathogenesis and therapy of immune-mediated diseases” to be held at Humanitas Congress Center in Milan (Italy) from September 29th until October 1st, 2014. This third edition of the workshop has a particular focus on inflammation and innate immunity responses that, as first lines of defense in several models of human diseases, play a key roles in the pathogenesis of cancer, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel disorders and viral infections. Indeed, the elucidation of host’s inflammatory responses within the innate immune compartment is a required experimental step for the development of novel and alternative therapeutic strategies to cure these diseases. As occurred in the two past editions of this workshop, you will experience a high quality scientific program with the presence of word renowned national and international speakers that will discuss the latest advances in their fields. The meeting will be opened by a lecture given by Jules Hoffmann (awarded with the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2011) and will be closed by another lecture delivered by Robert Gallo. We have also scheduled a satellite symposium on Next Generation Sequencing and Transcriptome, a current hot topic in the field of molecular immunology. Moreover, there will be two lunchonseminars dedicated to the role of the pathologist in translational immunology and to the novel therapeutic approaches with cancer stem cells. Intensive social and interactive programs (happy hours, coffee breaks, poster sections with open bar, scientific exchanges with pioneers in the fields of translational immunology, etc) are thought to enforce scientific networks for young scientists. The detailed program is available on our web site. The meeting is supported by University of Milan, the European Federation of Immunological Societis (EFIS), Society for Leukocyte Biology (SLB), Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca Sul Cancro (AIRC) and Humanitas Research Hospital. Several travel awards from SIICA, SLB, AIRC and EFIS are available for young scientists below 40 years old. We invite you to actively participate to our meeting by submitting abstracts that will contribute to improve the level of our scientific program and advance our knowledge in the field.
