International Scientific TV, Film and AV Media Festival Milano, 22nd -28th March 2010 REGULATIONS 1. Introduction Vedere la Scienza Festival will take place in Milan from the 22nd to the 28th of March 2010. All sorts of informational, educational and promotional scientific and technological documentaries, dramas, films and audiovisuals will be eligible, with the exception of material designed for technical and professional training. Both previously exhibited (broadcast or off-air release) and unreleased materials are admitted. The works must have been produced after the 1st of January, 2008. 2. Categories The following will be eligible: A - Television drama and docu-drama; B - Documentaries for television or/and for home video distribution; C - Documentaries developed by public or private science museums, science centres, scientific institutes, research centers and universities, academies, schools; D - Videos for web, web TV and videophones; E - Commercials and promotional videos. 3. Applicants Televisions and media production companies, independent producers, research institutes and universities, museums, academies and schools, organizations and agencies will be entitled to enter one or more works. A form must be attached to each entry, using the enclosed template. Application is free of charge. 4. Language and format Wherever possible, works should be submitted in one of the Festival’s two official languages (Italian and English). However, material in other languages will be accepted as well. The Festival organizers shall provide Italian and English translations via subtitles or a simultaneous translation service. Betacam SP or Digital (PAL) are the preferable submission formats. MiniDV, DV, DVCam, HDV are also accepted. DVDs (PAL, Region 2) will be accepted only if compatible with high quality cinematographic projection. 5. Pre-selection and selection A pre-selection of applications will be performed by the Scientific Committee. The works presented at the Festival shall then be assessed by an international Jury made up of scientists, science communication specialists and film and media executives. Screenings will be open to the general public and admission will be free of charge. Sessions will feature presentations and comments. 6. Submission deadlines All entries must be submitted together with the enclosed application form and be received by the 30th of December, 2009 at: Vedere la Scienza Festival Dipartimento di Fisica - Università degli Studi di Milano Via Brera, 28 - 20121 Milano - Italy e-mail: [email protected] Application forms can be sent either by e-mail (preferable) or by ordinary mail. The following should be enclosed with the application form: - three distinctive pictures (prints, slides or high-resolution digital pictures) to be used for the Festival catalogue and for promotion; - a script in the original language plus a translation - if available - into English or Italian, including dialogue and any narration/voice over. The submitted works must also be received at the above-mentioned address by the 30th of December, 2009. The submitted material will not be returned. 7. Promotion The Festival organizers shall be entitled to use pictures and footage from the selected material to promote the event. 8. Awards The Jury will assign an award for each category. The Jury reserves the right to assign special mentions and awards to particularly significant works. 9. Subsequent use of submitted material The Festival organizers will keep the submitted works in their archives for the educational purpose of showing them again during later editions of Vedere la Scienza Festival or for other educational purposes. The entrance to the screenings is free of charge. 10. Acceptance Entry of a production to the Festival implies acceptance of all the clauses of these regulations.
