…Sui marciapiedi, avviluppati in tersi sacchi di plastica, i resti della Leonia d’ieri aspettano
il carro dello spazzaturaio.
Non solo tubi di dentifricio schiacciatI, lampadine fulminate, giornali, contenitori, materiali
d’imballaggio, ma anche scaldabagni, enciclopedie, pianoforti, servizi di porcellana:
più che dalle cose che ogni giorno vengono fabbricate vendute comprate, l’opulenza di
Leonia si misura dalle cose che ogni giorno vengono buttate via per far posto alle nuove.
Tanto che ci si chiede se la vera passione di Leonia sia davvero come dicono il godere
delle cose nuove e diverse, o non piuttosto l’espellere, l’allontanare da sé, il mondarsi d’una
ricorrente impurita’…

... On the pavement, wrapped in polished plastic bags, the
remains of yesterday's Leonia await the dustman chariot.
Not only crushed tubes of toothpaste, exhausted ilght
bulbs, newspapers, containers, packaging materials, but
also boilers, encyclopedias, pianos, porcelain services:
More than from the things that are produced sold and
bought each day, the opulence of Leonia is measured by
the things that are thrown away every day to make room
for new ones.
So that we wonder if Leonia's true passion is really as
they say enjoying the new and different things, or rather
the expulsion, removing from itself, the ‘peeling’ from a
world of recurrent
impurity…

Rifiuti. Rifiuti. E ancora rifiuti.
Leonia consuma più di quello di cui ha bisogno
ed è immersa negli immondezzai.
I cittadini di Leonia producono, consumano e
gettano via.
Ma, dove vanno a finire tutti questi rifiuti?
Nascosti, sotterrati, bruciati, qualche volta
riciclati, ma quasi mai.
Waste. Waste. And yet waste.
Leonia consumes more than it needs and is
immersed in garbage dumps.
Inhabitants of Leonia produce, consume and
throw away.
But where does all this waste end up?
Hidden, buried, burned, sometimes recycled,
but hardly ever.
Gli angeli della spazzatura ogni mattina raccolgono i sacchetti
dell’immondizia, li portano lontano da Leonia ed infine li
abbandonano dove nessuno li possa né vedere né sentire.
Il risultato di questa serie di gesti,
produrre, consumare, gettare via,
è un puzzo vomitevole lontano
dalle mura di Leonia.
Every morning the Angels of waste collect
the garbage bags, carry them away from
Leonia and then leave them where nobody
can neither see nor hear.
The result of this series of gestures,
produce-consume-throw away, is a filthy
stench away from the walls of Leonia.
C'è un po' di Leonia in Italia,
c'è un po' di Leonia in Francia,
c'è un po' di Leonia in Spagna, in
Slovenia …
C'è molta Leonia sulla Terra.
Il mondo, con il suo sistema squilibrato in cui consuma e spreca più energia di quanta
ne abbia bisogno, più risorse naturali di quelle che servono, e produce più immondizia,
spazzatura e rifiuti di quello che può smaltire, riciclare e recuperare, è Leonia.
There is a bit of Leonia in Italy, there is a bit of
Leonia in France, there is a bit of Leonia in
Spain, in Slovenia ...
There is much of Leonia on Earth.
The world, with its unbalanced system that
consumes and wastes more energy than it
needs, more natural resources than needed,
and produces more rubbish, garbage and
waste that can be disposed of, recycled and
recovered, is Leonia.
Mentre Leonia muore sotterrata dalla sporcizia,
una flebile voce, proveniente da chissà quale
televisore, nascosto sotto bucce di banana e
torsoli di mela, chiede di ….
While Leonia is dying buried by dirt, a faint
voice, coming from who knows what
television hidden under banana peels and
apple cores, asks to ‘consume, consume
and consume’.

MONTAGNE DI RIFIUTI A PIU’ NON POSSO
LEONIA E’ PIENA NON C’E’ PIU’ POSTO
STREETS FULL OF GARBAGE
EVERY INHABITANT USES
AND THROWS AWAY
MOUNTAINS AND MOUNTAINS
OF WASTE
LEONIA IS FULL, THERE’S NO
MORE ROOM
NELLA CITTA’ OGNI MATTINA
ARRIVANO GLI ANGELI DELLA SPAZZATURA
OGNI RIFIUTO VIENE RACCOLTO
ED IN SILENZIO DICHIARATO MORTO
EVERY MORNING IN THE CITY
THE ANGELS OF GARBAGE
COME
ALL WASTE IS COLLECTED
AND IN SILENCE DECLARED DEAD
CI CHIEDIAMO SE LEONIA
GODA DAVVERO DI UNA COSA NUOVA
O PIUTTOSTO SI DIVERTA
AD ESPELLERE IMMONDIZIA
WE WONDER IF LEONIA
REALLY ENJOYS A NEW THING
OR RATHER HAS A GOOD TIME
THROWING RUBBISH AWAY
QUESTE MONTAGNE DI SPAZZATURA
STANNO ROVINANDO LA NOSTRA NATURA
NON E’ POSSIBILE CHE QUESTO VULCANO
CONTINUI AD ERUTTARE SULL’ ESSERE UMANO
THESE MOUNTAINS OF WASTE
ARE DESTROYING OUR NATURE
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THIS VOLCANO
KEEP ON ERUPTING ON EVERY HUMAN
BEING
CITTA’ FANTASIA O REALTA’
LEONIA MUORE E NON SI SALVERA’
PERCHE’ L’UOMO DEVE IMPARARE
CHE LA STRADA GIUSTA E’ RICICLARE!
CITY, FANTASY OR REALITY
