Lectures
1. Design based research as a framework for
promoting research-informed adoptions of
inquiry oriented science teaching
2. Content-specific research in science education
3. Pedagogical content knowledge in science
education: perspectives on and potential for
science teacher development
4. Researching science teaching and learning
beyond the classroom
workshops
A. Using statistical methods and understanding quantitative studies
I.
Regression analysis
II. Using SPSS
III. Misuse of basic data
IV. Analyzing data structure by Principal Components Analysis
B.
Connecting your research with a theoretical framework:
formulating research questions with the potential to make a
theoretical contribution
C. Strategies for analyzing qualitative data
D. Writing and reviewing
E. Designing teaching/learning activities for NOS
Workshop organization
• The list of students for each workshop session is
ready: find your name in the different lists
– Hanged on the windows in front of coffee break in
Antonini Palast
– Hanged on the board in Rizzi campus – C area
• A special additional organization is necessary for
WS-A: you are asked to decide preferences as
concern contens!
– please fill in the sheet of preferences and restitute it
to Secretariat (Cristina Cassan) during coffee break.
WG: an important formative activity
in a group of ‘critical friends’
Each session (90 minutes) will focus on one student’s PhD study
Example of protocol
1. A student presents his/her PhD study to the group (30 minutes).
2. Clarification questions only (5 minutes).
3. In pairs students discuss their reactions to the presentation and
prepare at least one question/comment per student to put to the
presenter. The presenter has a break, and perhaps a chat with
one or both coaches (15 minutes).
4. The whole group reconvenes for a question/answer discussion.
This will be chaired by one of the coaches. All students will be
expected to take a full part in these discussions (35 minutes).
5. Concluding comments by one or both coaches (5 minutes)
6. Student summary of the main points that have arisen from
presentation and discussion for coaches (later).
