THE TORTA PARADISO OF PAVIA

THE HISTORY
The torta Paradiso of Pavia was born in 1878,
when the marquess Cusani Visconti ordered
to the confectioner Enrico Vigoni “a
delicious, friable and long lasting cake”.

 Potato flour
 Sugar
 Butter
 Eggs
 Baking powder
 Lemon peel
A NAME A, LEGEND
According to a
legend, a
noblewoman from
Pavia tasted it first
and immediately
said: “It’s a
Paradise!” and so
the name of the
cake, Torta
Paradiso (Paradise
cake) was born.

shop is opposite the
University in Strada
Nuova, one of the
most important
street in the heart of
Pavia. The shop still
has the original
wooden decorations
and the Liberty
floors.
A prizewinning cake
Our Torta
Paradiso got
the gold medal
at the
International
Exhibition of
Milan in 1901
and 1906 and
another prize at
Flavors’Expo in
2003

February 2014 some
students of our school went to
Vigoni, an ancient pastry shop in
the centre of Pavia, to attend a
lesson of history and traditions in
