Informative Note: Validation of Sea Time

We must advise that, under United Kingdom Merchant Shipping law, there is no
statutory requirement for a British Consul, or for the Flag State Administration in the
United Kingdom, to validate the sea service of any seafarer serving on a UK ship.
This applies to all seafarers on all UK ships, irrespective of the seafarer’s nationality.
The entry made in the Discharge Book, or other Discharge document, by the master
of the vessel, fulfils the requirements of UK law.
In these circumstances, we regret that, irrespective of the legal requirements of other
States, we are unable to accede to requests to validate sea time.

Si comunica che, in osservanza del diritto marittimo britannico, non esiste alcun obbligo
stabilito dalla legge secondo il quale un Console Britannico, o l’amministrazione dello Stato
di bandiera nel Regno Unito, debba certificare l’operato di un marittimo che abbia prestato
servizio a bordo di una nave britannica, indipendentemente dalla nazionalità di quest’ultimo.
La registrazione effettuata dal comandante della nave sul libretto di navigazione, o su
qualsiasi altro documento di navigazione, soddisfa i requisiti previsti dalla legge britannica.
Alla luce di tali circostanze si comunica che, indipendentemente dai requisiti giuridici di altri
Stati, non è possibile accogliere le richieste di vidimazione del periodo di navigazione.
