VII National Conference of the Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy
BRAIN PERSONS ans SOCIETY
Brains, Persons, and Society
According to contemporary developments of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, we should consider human nature and identity as the result of the
complex interaction of biological and social factors. In this connection, the traditional distinction between nature and culture loses its plausibility,
and it is replaced by a more dynamic view of the relation between, on the one hand, the physical and material component of human persons,
from the other, their social and spiritual characteristics. Particular attention will be devoted to the contribution that Brain and Cognitive Sciences
can offer to philosophical understanding of crucial issues such as the nature and identity of human beings; the cognitive basis of social reality;
the contribution of social and cultural environment to the development of our cognitive abilities, and to the genesis and role of human
subjectivity.
