Washington Street, Chicago (312) 857-1234 ext. 201 CONVERSATION WITH DONATO SARTORI ‘EXPLORING THE CARNIVAL IN VENICE AND THE USE OF MASKS’ Addressing this year’s Italian Language Week theme, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura will present a series of demonstrations that explore the Venetian Carnival and its importance in the history of theater and the origins of Italian mask work. Donato Sartori, renowned Harlequin, Mask by Sartori master mask sculptor, will lead this workshop, which delves into the meaning and rich tradition of this ancient festival. Paola Piizzi, Paola Coletto and Sean Kaplan will also participate. An exclusive demonstration of how masks were actually used will be presented and a sampling of dishes associated with the Venetian Carnival will be served. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 6 PM ISTITUTO ITALIANO DI CULTURA SCREENING OF RICETTE D’AMORE INTRODUCED BY PAOLA MORGAVI, NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY In collaboration with Italidea, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura will present the screening of Ricette d’amore by German Director Sandra Nettelbeck. This film tells the story of Martha, an extraordinary chef, who has no time in her life for anything else but food. When Martha finds herself the caretaker of her young orphaned niece Lina, her life soon turns upside down. When a new boisterous Italian chef is hired at the restaurant, sparks begin to fly.
