Introduction
Hypoparathyroidism is a hypocalcemic disorder characterized by insufficient or absent
parathyroid hormone. Although a rare disorder of mineral metabolism, it nevertheless afflicts
many thousands of individuals worldwide. Recent advances have been made in understanding
the various etiologies of this disease as well as in its management and therapy. This conference
will gather world leaders in this disease in an effort to discuss challenges that health care providers
face as well as to recommend a blueprint for future research. A set of guidelines will be developed
in order to facilitate the diagnosis, management, and therapy of this disorder.
