The Gardens of Trauttmansdorf
Castle
In Merano, Italy‘s most beautiful
Gardens cast their spell
The gardens are terraced in
the form of an amphitheatre and extend to a height
of 91 metres around Trauttmansdorff Castle.
In this way, they offer a panorama of
the surrounding mountains, the town
of Meran and the gardens themselves.
In 11 pavilions artists present their
interpretations of the plant world in
more than 80 gardens from all over
the world; such as the olive grove in
the Sun Gardens, the water lily pond

in the Water and Terraced gardens,
South Tyrol’s countryside and the
woodlands of America and Asia.
Trauttmansdorff Castle stands
in the centre of the gardens.
The former winter residence of Austria’s Empress Sissi is today a tourism museum with a really wonderful
display of 200 years of Tyrol’s tourism
history. The rooms used by the Austrian Empress and Emperor can also be
viewed.
Trauttmansdorff Castle is open from
1st April to 15th November.

Algund’s surroundings are an enticing invitation to go on excursions
and trips unique in their kind. In the
near vicinity you will find the spa resort of Meran and the capitol of South
Tyrol, Bozen, with its romantic porticoes, the Cathedral, Piazza Erbe and
marvellous shops. In the background
stands the Rosengarten mountain
chain, the city’s true symbol.
In the heart of the Dolomites stand
the ”Drei Zinnen” (three peaks), surrounded by the mysterious charm of
the world of legends and sagas.
Lake Kaltern, the warmest lake for bathing in the Alps, is an invitation for
peaceful walks along its banks and in

recommend a sightseeing trip across
the Mendel Pass and Gampen Pass.
Algund is the perfect starting point to
reach even the further destinations
around Lake Garda. Limone, Riva and
Sirmione are destinations that can be
easily reached by car or bus (booking
at the Tourist Office).
Not too far away there is Venice,
recommended especially on weekdays to appreciate the city’s charm at
its best. Don’t forget Verona with the
operas at the Arena. The tickets for

3,000 year old cult stones, the so-called menhirs (reconstructions in front

stones, the famous Via Claudia Augusta of the old Romans – the roots of
Algund stretch way back and provide
evidence of people from near and far
visiting Algund in ancient times gone
by. Yet, evidence of past times can
also be found closeby.

Tirol Castle with the South Tyrolean
Museum for Culture and History is one
of the most renowned castles.
However, also Sigmundskron Castle
with the Messner Mountain Museum,
Brunnenburg Castle in Dorf Tirol,
Lebenberg Castle in Tscherms, and
Schenna Castle are worth a visit.
A bit further away, you find the Churburg Castle in Schluderns with the
world-wide largest private armoury
collection. It is one of the most imposing and best preserved fortifications
of South Tyrol.

colours. There is the yellow of the
chestnut grove, the gold of the vineyards and the red of ripe apples.

the “Waale“, traditional irrigation canals. You can breath in pure, fresh air,
enjoy the warming sun and let your

fuoco vivo, osservare come
dal vetro nascono figure artistiche
e decorative palle di Natale; o ancora
come vengono fabbricate le pantofole
in feltro, come vengono intagliate da

Il Rio Lagundo, nome sicuramente noto

La nona edizione della Corsa di Montagna di Lagundo è una delle tante
sfide estive disputate sullo sfondo del
versante meridionale delle Alpi. Un appuntamento da non perdere per atleti

In questa occasione, verranno presentati il vino nuovo dell’annata 2009 e il
“1° Törggele-CulTour Lagundo“, un
itinerario speciale in cui gli ospiti potranno assaggiare prodotti tipici e confrontarsi con interessanti installazioni
d‘arte. Il vino caratterizzerà anche la
buona musica: da non perdere il concerto dei “Südtiroler Spitzbuam“ e il
concerto di chiusura della banda musicale. “Ars et Vinum“ a Lagundo – un

the beginning of the horse racing season in Meran, which boasts one of the
most beautiful racecourses in Europe.

amongst hikers, requires a quicker
pace this time. The ninth edition of
the Algund Mountain Race is one of
the many summer competitions set
against the scenery of the southern
side of the Alps. An event you can
not miss either as an athlete or spectator.
October “Ars et Vinum”
Art & Wine in Lagundo
As the title suggests, “Ars et Vinum”
is going to be presented in the historic wine cellar of Lagundo in Merano. Both, art and wine fans, will be
fully satisfied.
In this occasion the “1st Törggele-CulTour Lagundo” will be presented. In
this special itinerary people will have
the opportunity to taste typical products in typical restaurants and contemporaneously admire interesting
