The construction industry and the general public are now showing renewed interest in Venetian
style marble mosaic tiles and for this reason Tomasello S.r.l. Pavimenti would like to repropose
this type of flooring. The originality of design and the colour blending possibilities create an atmosphere of warmth and style in any surroundings. Research done in the fields of moulds and
colouring techniques of tiles on the market from the early years of the century until the 1950’s
and their subsequent classification has led to the compilation of this catalogue to meet the needs
of clients and trade experts alike. In the case of restoration work small and medium sized quantities can be reproduced so long as the order is accompanied by a sample of the tiles to be
copied. The tiles are made in two layers. The upper layer, or walking surface, is achieved with a
mixture of Portland cement, marble chips and a colouring oxide. The lower, or supporting layer, is
concrete made out of Portland cement and gravel. The standard dimensions of the tiles are
20x20 cm., with an overall thickness of 2 cm. In the more elaborate cases a variation of six
colours can be achieved using colouring oxides and the marble chips.
polishing, makes the tiles water-repellent, excentuates the colour and at the same time gives an
“antique finish”. Spread over a perfectly clean and dry surface, “Tompres” fills any tiny porosity
present and, once absorbed, its protective action drastically reduces the intrusion of foreign
bodies so preventing the forming of markes or stains.
INSTRUCTION FOR USE
The first coating must be done on a perfectly polished and dry floor. Pour the product on a soft
woollen rag or foam-rubber sponge and spread it evenlyon the floor avoiding an excessive concentration of the product. The operation must be repeated after two hours and then again after
twelve hours to guarantee the homogenity of the absorbtion on the whole surface after a period
of six months. Although not necessary, further treatment with “Tompres” will make the floor even
shinier.
The aim of this catalogue is to present the vast range of our products thus making it possible to
plan the choice and design in advance to avoid paving and maintenance problems.

any case wish to point out that:
LAYING THE TILES
a) Concrete base. To achieve maximum adhesion and stability, lay the tiles on a good solid, dry
concrete base. The concrete should be 5 - 7 cm thick made of a mixture of gravel and sand with a
high lime content, lime and cement; it is better to use concrete with a low cement content.
b) The bedding layer. The bedding layer must be well beaten and levelled. Keep to a quota of
1cm below the thickness of the tiles to be laid. Lay the tiles one by one making sure they are perfectly flat and avoid any protrusion between them. Use grout of the type normally used for building materials (marble slabs, ceramic tiles, clay products ecc.).
A - Production
The schemes and types standardised here are the results of traditional craftsmanship matured
since the founding of the firm in the 1930’s. The proposed projects presented by the customer will
be examined thoroughly and reconciled with our production technology.
ESSENTIAL “DON’TS”WHEN LAYING THE TILES
Don’t lay the tiles on a bedding layer of fresh mortar, even if covered with dry cement. Don’t pour
water over the tiles to achieve a tight fitting, otherwise excessive humidity will be created in the
bedding layer resulting in a discharge through capillary action along the joints with probably mold
formations which will prevent a good bond between the tiles and the base.
B – Laying
Even if slight unintentional irregularities can present themselves in the optimisation of the general
laying of the flooring, these reveal and reflect the craftsmanship of the work and the warmth of a
meaningful floor surface.
LIQUID CEMENT. FILLING THE JOINTS
Pure Portland cement is recommended as a filler between the joints. For coloured flooring it is
better to add cementcolouring oxides to the filter in order to minimise the clearance between the
joints. The filler is spread on the flooring two days after the tiles have been laid. The floor should
be well washed beforehand and left wet. The filler is smoothed over the surface with a brush
several times to fill the joints perfectly both on the surface and deeper down.
C – Treatment and conservation
The floorings have a low level of absorption which gradually reduces with time until it disappears both for the maturation of the molecular structure of the cement and for the constant
maintenance in the period immediately after the laying.
To accelerate this important process we advise you, in fact, to treat the flooring surface with
water and neutral soap, excluding at all costs acids or acid soaps. In the case of marks
coming to the surface despite the suggested cleaning methods, normal textile stain removers can be used. The operation can be repeated eventually.
We do not advise the use of water repellents containing chemicals for floors since these
slow down the natural waterproofing process of the tiles with the added risk of marks
coming to the surface later. Cement flooring must not be waxed before 2/4 months from the
time it was laid and polished following attentively the instructions which normally accompany the product.
CLEANING AND POLISHING
The cleaning and polishing are done not before ten days from when the tiles were laid. Use the
same method as for marble flooring.
“TOMPRES” MAINTENANCE OF THE TILES
“Tompres” (a product for the maintenance of Venetian style cement tiles. Tomasello S.r.l.
Pavimenti is pleased to present a compound of natural origin for the first treatment and the maintenance of Venetian style cement tiles cm 20x20. The “Tompres” mixture, after the first phase of

aderenza e stabilità. Tale strato di calcestruzzo avrà uno spessore di cm. 5 - 7, composto con
breccia e sabbia calcarea, calce e cemento; è preferibile un calcestruzzo in magrone cementizio.
Il sottofondo va battuto e livellato per bene, mantenendosi ad una quota di 1cm al di sotto dello
spessore delle mattonelle da posare. Le mattonelle vanno posate una per una perfettamente in
piano ed evitando che tra una mattonella e l’altra rimangano delle sporgenze, utilizzando una
malta collosa cementizia del tipo impiegato normalmente per manufatti per l’edilizia (lastre di
marmo, piastrelle in ceramica, pressati in argilla, ecc.).
Questo catalogo si propone di presentare la vasta gamma dei nostri prodotti e di consentire l’opportuna programmazione della scelta e della progettazione per evitare perplessità di posa e
manutenzione.

caso tenuto presente che:
A)- PRODUZIONE
Gli schemi ed i tipi qui standardizzati sono l’esito di una tradizione artigianale maturata sin dalla
fondazione della Ditta negli anni trenta. Le proposte progettuali presentate dall’acquirente saranno vagliate e concordate compatibilmente con la tecnologia della nostra produzione.
BISOGNA ASSOLUTAMENTE EVITARE DI POSARE
Bisogna assolutamente evitare di posare le mattonelle su sottofondo di impasto fresco, anche se
spolverato di cemento asciutto, e di versare sopra le mattonelle acqua, al fine di compattarle. In
questo modo si verrebbe ad ottenere una eccessiva umidità nel sottofondo ed una conseguente
fuoriuscita per capillarità lungo i giunti con probabile influorescenza, senza peraltro realizzare la
perfetta cementazione delle mattonelle al sottofondo.
B)- POSA
Pur nell’ottimizzazione della stesura generale del pavimento si possono presentare lievi, non
intenzionali irregolarità; queste denunciano la non serialità della posa e, anzi, rispecchiano proprio l’artigianalità dell’opera ed il calore di una significativa superficie di calpestio.
LA BOIACCA (CEMENTO LIQUIDO)
Per la stuccatura si raccomanda l’impiego di cemento Portland puro. Nel caso di pavimenti colorati sarà bene aggiungere nella boiacca ossidi coloranti per cemento al fine di minimizzare l’incidenza dei giunti. La boiacca va data sui pavimenti dopo due giorni dalla loro messa in opera. Il
pavimento va preventivamente lavato bene e lasciato umido. L’impasto liquido di cemento va stirato sulla superfice con una scopa e ripassato più volte in modo da riempire perfettamente i giunti sia in superfice sia in profondità.
C)- TRATTAMENTO E CONSERVAZIONE
I pavimenti hanno un grado di assorbimento non elevato che si riduce progressivamente nel
tempo fino a scomparire, sia per la manutenzione assidua nel periodo immediatamente successivo alla posa.
Per accelerare questo importante processo si consiglia, infatti, di sottoporre la superficie pavimentale a lavaggi con acqua e sapone neutri, escludendo tassativamente acidi o saponi acidi.
Nel caso di affioramento di macchie e nonostante i lavaggi consigliati si può agire topicamente
con normali smacchiatori per tessuti. L’operazione può essere eventualmente ripetuta.
L’uso di idrorepellenti per pavimenti ad azione chimica è sconsigliato; questi rallentano il naturale
processo di impermeabilizzazione della mattonella con il rischio di affioramento di macchie.
Non prima di 2/4 mesi dalla posa e lucidatura si può stendere uno strato di cera per pavimenti in
cemento seguendo accuratamente le indicazioni della casa produttrice (normalmente allegate).
ARROTATURA E LUCIDATURA
L’arrotatura e la lucidatura vanno eseguite non prima di dieci giorni dalla messa in opera. Le
modalità sono le stesse adoperate per i pavimenti in marmo.
TOMPRES - MANUTENZIONE DELLE MATTONELLE
Il tompres (prodotto per la manutenzione delle mattonelle in cemento alla veneziana). La
Tomasello S.r.l. Pavimenti è lieta di presentare un composto appositamente studiato, particolarmente, per il primo trattamento e la manutenzione delle marmette in cemento alla veneziana cm
20x20. Il Tompres, dopo la fase di lucidatura in opera, rende le mattonelle idrorepellenti, ne esalta
i colori, conferendo nel contempo una «patina di antico»; steso sulle superfici perfettamente pulite ed asciutte, il Tompres va a saturare ogni micro porosità presente; e ad assorbimento avvenuto
la sua azione protettiva riduce drasticamente l’intrusione di corpi estranei, impedendone il sorgere di macchie.
L’attuale interesse di tecnici e di privati per le marmette a mosaico di epoca alla veneziana, ha
spinto la Tomasello S.r.l. Pavimenti a riproporre questo tipo di pavimentazione che per l’originalità
dei disegni e per l’armonia dei colori riesce a dare calore e tono ad ogni tipo di ambiente. La ricerca di stampi e colori di mattonelle in commercio nei primi anni del secolo fino agli anni 50 e la loro
catalogazione ha determinato il presente catalogo, che sebbene esemplificativo, incontra le esigenze della clientela e dei tecnici. Nel caso di restauro, si è in grado di riprodurre, sia medie che
piccole quantità di marmette purchè la richiesta sia accompagnata dalla mattonella da riprodurre.
Le mattonelle a graniglia di marmo si compongono di 2 strati: quello superiore di calpestìo è ottenuto con cementi Portland, graniglia di marmo fine e ossido colorante; quello inferiore di supporto
è costituito da un magrone di cementi Portland e sabbia grossa. Le dimensioni standard sono di
cm 20x20 con uno spessore complessivo di cm 2. Gli ossidi coloranti e la graniglia di marmo nei
casi più ricchi ed articolati, può raggiungere una variazione di 6 colori.
ISTRUZIONI PER L’USO
La prima stesura va effettuata a pavimento lucidato e perfettamente asciutto, versando il prodotto
su un panno morbido di lana o di gommapiuma e distribuendolo nella pavimentazione in modo
uniforme per evitare concentrazioni eccessive di prodotto. L’operazione va ripetuta a due ore
dalla prima e successivamente dopo circa 12 ore per assicurare l’omogeneità dell’assorbimento
su tutta la superfice a distanza di sei mesi. Ulteriori trattamenti con il Tompres, nel tempo, anche
se non necessari, rendono il pavimento ancora più brillante

GRANITOM Thanks to its composite and technical characteristics, flooring in Granitom is able to satisfy many diverse
needs ranging from those depending on design patterns or dictated by the frequent use of the surface to those aiming at
enhancing the room and the furnishings. It is ideal for large and varied spaces, in both housebuilding and public construction projects (shops, offices, sport’s complexes etc.). The illustration shows the potentiality of Granitom flooring also in
closed surroundings where the furnishing can be enhanced by a harmonious composition of tiles and decorative insets.

INLAID PERIOD FLOORING STILL BEING MADE TODAY Tomasello reintroduced the production of antique style floor tiles
more than eight years ago. This type of inlaid flooring, in vogue between 1860 and 1930, adopted the colours and designs typical
of the Liberty (art nouveau) and Deco styles. Its widespread use among middle and high society was due to the cromatic richness, the variety of decorative motifs and to the versatility of basic simple graphic patterns which make possible the creation of
many different designs. Improvements in materials and manufacturing processes now make it possible to produce tiles of a
costantly high quality and a polishable surface whilst, at the same time, maintainig the original characteristics.
The elastic nature, moreover, make the tiles compatible also with parquet and ceramic flooring thus highlighting the cromatic
variations and the general composition.
The possibility of reproducing any type of decorative motif is ideal not only for creating new projects but it also meets the present trend aimed at the restoration of old buildings. In fact, this type of product is suitable when restoring or reviving old flooring is required.
PAVIMENTI AD INTARSIO (PASTINE IN CEMENTO) MONOCROMATICHE A DISEGNO D’EPOCA REALIZZATI OGGI.
La Tomasello S.r.l.Pavimenti da oltre otto anni ha ripreso la produzione dell’antico tipo di mattonelle per pavimentazione in pasta
cementizia. In auge tra il 1860 ed il 1930, questo tipo di pavimento ad intarsio adottava i colori e i disegni tipici della decorazione
Liberty e Decò. La sua larga diffusione in case borghesi e signorili era dovuta alla ricchezza dei cromatismi, alla varietà dei motivi
decorativi, alla componibilità di alcuni semplici schemi grafici.
Pur nel rispetto delle caratteristiche originarie; i materiali migliorati e la tecnica ottimizzata permettono ora di realizzare mattonelle
con qualità meccaniche e di superficie lucidabile di ben più alto livello.
Le caratteristiche elastiche, inoltre, rendono la mattonella in pasta cementizia compatibile anche con parquet e cotto valorizzandone l’alternanza cromatica e la composizione generale.
La possibilità di riproduzione di qualsiasi motivo decorativo, oltre alla realizzazione di nuove proposte progettuali, permette anche
l’intervento nei casi di restauro e ripristino di pavimentazioni originali, seguendo l’attuale tendenza del recupero edilizio.

a alcuni anni, la rivalutazione del
Liberty ha riproposto all’attenzione dei tecnici del settore edilizio le
tematiche connesse, sia alla ripavimentazione di immobili antichi,
oggetto di restauro, sia alla sperimentazione di piani di calpestio
diversi, per resistenza ed impatto
estetico, da quelli correnti.
La pavimentazione in Seminato
alla Veneziana è una delle nuove
proposte.
Nato nell’antica Grecia ellenistica, questo manto pavimentale ha avuto gradevoli
applicazioni nei secoli successivi fino al massimo splendore raggiunto in periodo
bizantino; si è poi arricchito e tecnologicamente evoluto a partire dal tardo rinascimento, soprattutto a Venezia che gli ha dato il nome attuale. Il seminato alla veneziana per tecnica di stesura e resa cromatica è adattabile a qualsiasi tipo di immobile e può essere arricchito con decori musivi più o meno elaborati.
La ricerca di soluzioni tecniche nuove e raffinate ha spinto la Tomasello a riproporre
questo tipo di pavimentazione per risolvere anche i problemi di compatibilità estetica
e funzionale legati all’edilizia moderna, pubblica o privata. Tra i vantaggi del nostro
Seminato alla Veneziana ricordiamo in primo luogo la possibilità di personalizzare il
manto di calpestìo con effetti cromatici e decorativi rispondenti alle esigenze del

the Liberty style has brought to
the attention of technicians in the
construction industry the thematic
links of reflooring old buildings,
objects of restoration, and the experimentation in various types of flooring, for resistance and aesthetic
impact, of current ones.
Flooring in Seminato alla Veneziana
is one of the new proposals. First
used in ancient Hellenistic Greece,
this flooring surface was applied successfully in later centuries up to its maximum splendour during the Byzantine period. It was then enriched and technologically improved
during the late Renaissance, above all in Venice that gave the product its present name.
Thanks to the laying technique and to its chromatic effects Seminato alla Veneziana can
be adapted to any type of building and can be enriched with decorative mosaics of
various degrees of elaboration.
The search for new and refined technical solutions has encouraged Tomasello to repropose this type of flooring to resolve also the problems of aesthetic and functional compatibility linked to modern public and private construction. Among the advantages of our
Seminato alla Veneziana is the possibility to personalise the floor surface with chromatic
and decorative effects responding to customer and designerís needs. Infact, this aspect,
which is often neglected in modern construction, can be happily resolved only by using

COMPLEMENTI IN GRANIGLIA

PRECAST STAIRCASES They are the result of the handmade production widely used in the construction industry in
the first half of the 20th century. The revival of these products invovles more and more designers concerned with the restoration of historical buildings as well as those working on modern building projects.
Thanks to its years’ experience Tomasello has positively responded to this trend by reintroducing the production of such a
genre through the use of thoroughly tested techniques and the acurate study of the materials to be employed. The tiles can
be monochromatic, variegated or present a more or less elaborated mosaic look according to demand. The slabs are made
of precast terrazzo.
The colours and marble chips are of the same series as GRANITOM tiles. Other colours can be realized on demand
SCALE IN GRANIGLIA Sono il risultato di una produzione artigianale molto diffusa nell’edilizia della prima metà del
novecento. La giusta rivalutazione di questi manufatti coinvolge sempre di più i progettisti sia nel caso di ristrutturazione
dell’edilizia storica sia nell’ambientazione di edifici moderni. La Tomasello S.r.l., puntando sulla sua esperienza settantennale è venuta incontro a queste nuove esigenze progettuali ed ha ripreso la produzione di tale genere di manufatti seguendo
tecniche ampiamente collaudate e sottoponendo i materiali impiegati ad un accurato vaglio. Le graniglie base possono
essere monocromatiche, mischie o coniugate con decori musivi più o meno elaborati a richiesta dei progettisti. Le lastre
sono realizzate con graniglie di marmo e cementi ad alta resistenza vibrati ed armati.

The aready warm atmosphere of parquet flooring can be enriched
even more by using decorated tiles as a pleasing complement in the
creation refined and personalized chromatic patterns.
The technically simple placement of continuous borders and isolated
panel, carefully chosen for their pattern and colours, contribute, on the
one hand, in enhancing the tones, and, on the other, in emphasizing
the interweaving of the wood grain.
C- MATTONELLE DECORATE
Per arricchire la già calda atmosfera di una pavimentazione in legno,
la Pavimenti Tomasello propone la sua produzione di mattonelle decorate come piacevole complemento nella realizzazione di giochi cromatici ricercati e personalizzati.
L’inserimento, tecnicamente agevole, di bordure continue e di pannelli
isolati, opportunamente scelti per disegno e colori, riesce a potenziare
e valorizzare ancor più le tonalità delle essenze e la tessitura delle
venature del legno.

RESTAURI E RIPRODUZIONI
La Tomasello srl ha il piacere di fornire la propria consulenza e di mettere a disposizione la propria esperienza per il
restauro e la riproduzione di mattonelle di pregio a disegno e monocromatiche, in graniglia o pastine di cemento. Va precisato che nonostante la massima cura e professionalità nel ripristino il colore e la tonalità degli impasti si può avvicinare ad
un massimo dell’80-90% rispetto agli originali.
* Il restauro può riguardare anche piccola quantità di mattonelle fratturate o lesionate, a giunti più o meno combacianti,
con una messa a forma delle parti dissestate e/o danneggiate.
* La riproduzione delle mattonelle d’epoca in graniglia, a disegno e monocromatiche, ove necessario, si avvarrà di nuovi
stampi mediati dal campione fornito. La messa a punto di un nuovo stampo richiederà da parte dell’acquirente un contributo di spesa una tantum per la sua realizzazione.

RESTORATIONS AND REPRODUCTIONS
Tomasello srl has pleasure in providing technical advice and experience for the restoration and reproduction of patterned
and monochromatic quality tiles. We wish to point out that in spite of the utmost care and expertise in the restoration, it is
only possible to approach 80-90% of the original colour and tone.
* Restoration can also include small quantities of fractured or damaged tiles, where the joints more or less fit together,
with an adjustment to the form of the unbalanced or damaged parts.
* The reproduction of patterned and monochromatic period floor tiles, were necessary, will make use of new dies on the
basis of the supplied samples. The setting up of a new die requires a one-off payment on behalf of the purchaser for realisation of the work.

PAVIMENTI ALLA VENEZIANA MESONITICO
Il pavimento alla Veneziana Mesonitico è un composto
confezionato con graniglie e polvere di marmo ossidi
coloranti e leganti mesonitici. La granulometria dei
marmi impiegati, la colorazione dell’impasto e la composizione dei decori corrispondono a qualsiasi esigenza di progetto.
La superficie finale di calpestio viene rifinita con arrottura e lucidatura. Come superficie di attesa del pavimento
alla Veneziana Mesonitico cromatico o a tessere di
marmo si può preparare ex novo con dei tradizionali
supporti a tenuta consolidata (massetto sottofondo in
battuto cementizio) o utilizzare pavimenti esistenti purché dei tipi in graniglia, in cotto, in marmo o in pietra
naturale.
