“It is clear to Member States and the Commission that the current
round of intercalibration due to complete at the end of 2006
•will not, for all of the biological quality elements in all water
categories of the WFD, deliver a common understanding of good
ecological status.
•might reveal the need to adapt the selection of sites on the basis
of evidence coming from the monitoring results linked to the
intercalibration exercise.
There are expected to be significant gaps, mainly due to lack of data
and assessment methods for some of the biological elements.
Member States and the Commission should work together through the
CIS process to ensure these gaps are filled as soon as possible after
2006. A future revision of the intercalibration register may also be
necessary to take account of scientific developments, new evidence
or climatic changes which significantly affect the aquatic ecosystems
of the Community.
Processo di Intercalibrazione
In accordance with Annex V, 1.4.1, the Commission assisted by the
Article 21 Committee of the WFD will oversee the completion of the
intercalibration exercise and the publication of the intercalibration
register. In such cases of, e.g. a replacement of intercalibration sites
becomes necessary, a Member State may request to the chair of the
Article 21 Committee in writing to include this item in the agenda (cf.
Rules of Procedures, Article 2, paragraph 2, point b).“
