Summary
Photography and wine are among those words that do not have, cannot have, an unequivocal definition: They
contain within themselves diverse worlds and realities, they evoke numerous and decidely multicolored feelings,
to the point of rendering them almost indescribable in everyday language. This is the essence of the Wine
Photo Prize Contest, which was meant to be a meeting ground, a priveledged game in which a multifaceted
language which appeals to the senses through photography, interprets and translates a multifaceted world made
for the same senses as wine does.
The panel of judges will be composed of professional photographers while the final selection phase of the
contest will be entrusted to a wine expert. The exhibit of selected work and the selection of the winners will be
held during the Wine Day 2004 event which will bring together under one roof, many important vintners from
Italy and abroad. Wine Day 2004 will kick off on Monday 17 May 2004 at the Villa Braida in Mogliano Veneto in
the outskirts of Treviso.
Competition Criteria
The theme of the competition will have its point of departure in wine, with reference to its cultural aspects, its
language, history, production or commercial side. The theme this year is:
Wine and Vision
The participants may send either a single photographic print or a body of work that follows the theme, of the
dimensions anywhere between 18 x 24 cm and 30 x 45 cm on photographic paper with photographer’s first and
last name and address written on the back. They may be color, black and white or digital (must be indicated that
they are digital capture). Prints submitted must be unpublished work.

Entry form must be filled out in its entirety, signed by the participant and submitted with photos. If a selfaddressed, not-stamped envelope of the appropriate dimensions for the return of the photos is enclosed the
photos will be returned to the participant. The contest is open to everyone: non Italian residents and foreigners
welcome. No prize will be awarded in the case of a tie. The judges will announce their 20 chosen finalists by 5
April 2004 of whom, 5 will be selected as winners. The 20 finalists will be contacted to arrange acquisition of the
photo for the final exhibit which will take place on opening day of Wine Day 2004 at the event at Villa Braida in
Mogliano Veneto. The 20 selected finalists’ photos will be exhibited (one image per photographer shown) printed
on 70x100cm panels, at the expense of the Organization. Failure to submit the selected image for the final
exhibit will result in automatic disqualification. The day of Wine Day 2004 on 17 May 2004, a wine expert,
accompanied by at least one of the judges, will decide the final 5 prize winners.
All participants will have to grant explicit consent – in the event that their image is selected – to use of their
image by author, Vinicola Balan, for the exhibit and for all advertisements soley connected to the competition,
without recompensation to the photographer or any third parties. Participation in the contest requires that the
author is in possession of the release of the subject of the photographs to usehis/her image, in any form, the use
of which he or she will assume full responsibility
The images, however, will remain the property of the participants. All those selected will be given their 70 x
100cm sized print from the exhibit, to keep.
Judges
The panel of judges will be presided by Lello Piazza (Photo Editor of Airone) and composed of Marco Pinna
(Editor of National Geographic, Italy), Andrea Pistolesi (professional photographer) and Carlo Roberti (Director
of Toscana Photographic Workshop). The final selection will be made by Alessandro Masnaghetti, wine critic.
Prizes
First prize will be enrollment in a Toscana Photographic Workshop free of charge (valued at 1.560,00 Euros)
and a selection of fine wines (valued at 500.00 Euros)
Second prize will be enrollment in a Toscana Photographic Workshop free of charge (valued at 1.560,00 Euros)
and a selection of fine wines (valued at 300.00 Euros)
Third prize will be enrollment in a Toscana Photographic Workshop free of charge (valued at 1.560,00 Euros)
and a selection of fine wines (valued at 200.00 Euros)
Fourth and Fifth prizes will be a selection of fine wines valued at 250.00 Euros each.
Wine Day Production Prize
On 30 April 2004, the published work of a professional photographer will be selected in the preceding 12
months, and will be awarded a bottle of wine which embodies all the best characteristics from each vintner’s
wine selection presented at Wine Day 2004 (which amounts to a total of 54 bottles of wine). The prize will be
given by the panel of judges which will make the decision and notify the winner know no later than 30 April 2004.
The winner will have to collect the prize at Wine Day 2004.

Regolamento
Fotografia e vino sono tra quelle parole che non hanno, non possono avere, una definizione univoca:
racchiudono in se stesse mondi e realtà diverse, evocano sensazioni molteplici e decisamente variopinte, così
da rendersi quasi intraducibili nel linguaggio comune. Qui sta l’essenza del Premio Fotografico Wine
Photo, che nasce per essere un luogo di incontro, o gioco che sia, privilegiato, in cui un linguaggio multiforme
che parla ai sensi come la fotografia, interpreta e traduce un mondo multiforme e fatto per i sensi quale è il vino.
La giuria tecnica sarà composta da professionisti del campo fotografico; la fase strettamente finale della
premiazione sarà affidata ad un esperto del settore del vino. L’esposizione delle opere selezionate e la
premiazione dei vincitori avverrà all’interno della manifestazione Wine Day 2004, che riunirà molti importanti
produttori di vino, italiani ed esteri. Il Wine Day 2004 si terrà lunedì 17 maggio presso Villa Braida a Mogliano
Veneto, in provincia di Treviso.
Tema del concorso
Il tema delle opere che concorreranno avrà il suo spunto di partenza nel vino, riferendosi ad aspetti culturali, di
linguaggio, storici, produttivi o di commercializzazione. Il tema fissato per questa edizione è:
Vino e Visione
I partecipanti dovranno inviare una foto singola o un progetto fotografico che sviluppi il tema del concorso, su
stampe di formato compreso tra 18x24 e 30x45 centimetri su carta fotografica, recanti sul retro nome cognome
e indirizzo dell’autore. Potranno essere indifferentemente a colori, B/N o – specificandolo - immagini elaborate in
digitale. Le opere devono essere inedite.
Modalità di partecipazione
Le opere dovranno pervenire entro le ore 14.00 del 20/03/2004 presso Organizzazione Concorso Wine Photo
c/o Vinicola Balan, via Sant’Ambrogio 107 TREBASELEGHE (PD). Dovrà essere allegata la scheda di
partecipazione compilata in tutte le sue parti e firmata dal partecipante. Se assieme alle opere è allegata una
busta non affrancata di opportune dimensioni già indirizzata con il recapito del mittente, le stesse saranno
restituite agli autori. Il concorso è aperto a tutti: l’invito a partecipare è esteso anche a fotografi non italiani.
Nessun premio verrà assegnato per sorteggio. La giuria tecnica entro il 05/04/2004, comunicherà venti
selezionati e, all’interno di questi, cinque vincitori, senza determinarne la classifica. I venti concorrenti
selezionati verranno contattati per definire le modalità di acquisizione dell’immagine per l’esposizione finale che
si terrà il giorno del Wine Day 2004, presso la sede dello stesso, in Villa Braida a Mogliano Veneto; le venti
opere selezionate verranno esposte (per i progetti verrà esposta una foto per autore) stampate su supporto
rigido in formato 70x100cm a spese dell’organizzazione. La mancata disponibilità a fornire l’immagine per
l’esposizione finale comporterà l’automatica esclusione dal concorso. Il giorno del Wine Day, il 17/05/2004, un
professionista del settore del vino, accompagnato da almeno un membro della giuria tecnica, deciderà la
classifica finale dei cinque vincitori. Coloro che partecipano al concorso danno esplicito consenso - qualora
vengano selezionati - all’utilizzo delle loro immagini da parte della Vinicola Balan per l’esposizione e per tutte e
solo le pubblicazioni collegate al concorso, senza che sia corrisposto alcun compenso all’autore o a terzi a
qualsiasi titolo. La partecipazione al concorso sottointende che l’autore sia in possesso dell’autorizzazione
all’utilizzo delle immagini da parte dei soggetti eventualmente raffigurati, utilizzo di cui si assume egli stesso, per
intero, la responsabilità. Le opere, comunque, rimarranno di proprietà dei partecipanti. Tutti i selezionati saranno
premiati con la stampa in formato 70x100cm utilizzata per l’esposizione.
Giuria
La giuria tecnica sarà presieduta da Lello Piazza (photo-editor di Airone) e composta da Marco Pinna
(redazione National Geographic Italia), Andrea Pistolesi (fotografo), Carlo Roberti (direttore Toscana
Photographic Workshop). La classifica finale sarà decisa dall’ing. Alessandro Masnaghetti, critico enologico.
Premi
Il primo classificato sarà premiato con un’iscrizione gratuita a un workshop TPW del valore di 1.560,00 € e
bottiglie di vino per un valore complessivo di 500,00 €;
Il secondo classificato sarà premiato con un’iscrizione gratuita a un workshop TPW del valore di 1.560,00 € e
bottiglie di vino per un valore complessivo di 300,00 €;
Il terzo classificato sarà premiato con un’iscrizione gratuita a un workshop TPW del valore di 1.560,00 € e
bottiglie di vino per un valore complessivo di 200,00 €.
Gli altri due premi saranno in costituiti da bottiglie di vino per un valore di 250 euro ciascuno.
Premio produttori Wine Day
Entro il 30/04/2004 sarà selezionato il lavoro pubblicato da un fotografo professionista nell’arco dei precedenti
12 mesi, che sarà premiato con la bottiglia più caratterizzante ciascuno dei produttori presenti al Wine Day 2004
(per un ammontare complessivo di 54 bottiglie di vino). Il premio verrà assegnato dalla giuria tecnica, che
motiverà la scelta e la comunicherà al vincitore entro il 30/04/2004. Il Vincitore dovrà ritirare il premio durante il
Wine Day 2004.
