GRUPPO DI PREGHIERA SAN PADRE PIO
In each of the three Synoptic Gospels, after his baptism,
Jesus is reported to have spent forty days in the desert,
fasting and praying. In Luke and in Matthew, the devil
presents three temptations to Jesus. The devil tempts Jesus
to use his power to appease his hunger, he offers Jesus all
the kingdoms of the world if Jesus will worship him, and he
tempts Jesus to put God's promise of protection to the test.
In each case, Jesus resists, citing words from Scripture to
rebuke the devil's temptation.
Each temptation that Jesus faces offers insight into the
spirituality we hope to develop as we keep the forty days of
the Season of Lent. We can trust God to provide for our
material needs. We worship God because God alone has
dominion over us and our world. We can trust God to be
faithful to his promises. Jesus' rejection of the devil's
temptations shows that he will not put God to the test.
Grounding himself on the Word and authority of Scripture,
Jesus rebukes the devil by his confidence in God's
protection and faithfulness.
Pope Francis says: Today our gaze is on the Holy Family
and we are drawn into the simplicity of the life they led in
Nazareth. It is an example that does our families great good,
helping them increasingly to become communities of love
and reconciliation, in which tenderness, mutual help, and
mutual forgiveness is experienced.

ST. BRIGID’S PARISH WEEKLY COLLECTION
SEASON OF LENT
The Lenten season is a time of reflection and a time to be
thankful for our blessings. The four Lenten pillars are:
Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving and Sacrifice. It is a sign of our
care for those in need, and an expression of our gratitude
for all the blessing God has given us. Works of charity and
the promotion of justice are integral elements of the
Christian way of life we began when we were baptized.
This year, we continue with the purple Lenten bag program.
It is a symbol of our sacrifice and self-denial. In order to help
those in need, please consider adding a daily monetary
value in your Lenten bag. All proceeds will go towards
Out of the Cold and to the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul programs.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS ~ EVERY FRIDAY
Please join us every Friday evening at 7:00 pm,
throughout the Lenten season as we pray the Stations of the

join us this Friday, February 19th.
POPE FRANCIS’ ASH WEDNESDAY MESSAGE
LIVE LENT WELL
Jesus told his disciples, “Be careful not to practice your
righteousness before men to be seen by them”. “When you
give alms do not sound a trumpet before you”. “Your Father
who sees will reward you in secret.” God's word gives us the
proper orientation for living Lent well. When we do
something well, sometimes we are tempted to be
appreciated and to have a reward: the human glory. But it is
a false reward because we project towards what others think
of us. Jesus asks us to do good because it is good. He asks
us to feel always under the gaze of our heavenly Father and
to live in union with Him, not in relation to the judgment of
others.
ARCHDIOCESE DAY OF CONFESSION

7:40 pm after Holy Mass and Novena.
